1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Did your FIRST doll come with a faceup? - Pt.2

Dec 10, 2017

    1. One of the things about this hobby that initially drew me to it was the chance to do my own face-ups. I was thoroughly intrigued by this, and was artistic enough to be confident I could do it, so of course my first doll came blank. I loved it! I still like doing my own face-ups, but now that my collection has grown I have also enjoyed adding company face-ups that I like in order to have more variety. If I buy a doll and the company face-up happens to suit my character, then I’m quite happy to pay the company to do it for me (Luts, Peakswoods, or some purchased with pre-existing face-ups through the second-hand market.) If it doesn’t suit my character, then I’ll order it blank (or wipe it if it came with one second-hand) and simply do my own. The only thing I haven’t done yet is send a doll off to a face-up artist, because there’s simply no need.

    2. Yes. My Soom Gem Kyrie came with company face up back in 2006. She still has that face up,
and it is still quite vibrant. She has aged very well.

    3. I bought my girl with a face up since I didn't have the confidence or supplies to attempt a face up.

    4. My first and only doll didn't have a faceup, I had some practice beforehand by repainting other dolls, I loved working on a BJD and I'm now looking forward to getting more dolls to keep practicing on

    5. My first SD doll, other SD dolls after that, and future SD dolls did not - do not - and will not have company face-up.
Because I don't like companies face-up (if they have special artist for limited head sculpts like Little Monica has, I will go for the face-up)
      .
I prefer sending my dolls to professional artists rather than doing it myself.
I only do the face-up by myself when there is no face-up artist accept the head sculpts )cuz they are very tiny)
      .
My first YoSD has company face-up. So, for little dolls like YoSD, it depends. But for SD, no company face-up vote.

    6. I bought my first girl preloved, and was fortunate enough to have a face up by Eludys

    7. Yes, she did! I really like her factory face-up! I'm not planning on wiping it any time soon.

    8. The first bjd I ever bought was a gemofdoll Sofier and I ordered her with company faceup.
She took over 9 months to arrive. So in that time I bought already a second hand Resinsoul Mei, also with faceup. The faceup was made by the previous owner and I totally loved it.
In the beginning I didn't know anything about bjd faceups. Now I even do them by myself and I think it was very good to get my first bjds with faceup.

    9. My first doll was a fullset with a company faceup (dollzone megi 2). I just did my very first faceup on him a few weeks ago, after he lived with the company faceup for something like 8 or 9 years.

My attempt is still unfinished, because we've had constant humid weather for ages where I live in eastern Australia (70-90%) and I haven't been able to do the last couple of layers of MSC. He's been living without lower eyelashes or proper eyebrow hairs for a while, but he rocks it.

    10. Yes, they all came as full-set with make up on. 2017 dollzone factory makeup was quite nice, I really like it.

    11. My first doll I purchased as a head (ddh-01) from an artist that did a custom faceup on her. I later brought a body for her off yahoo japan.

    12. Yes he had the company face and I think having him look more complete helped me to connect with him

    13. My first doll is fergus from doll chateau fullset, but I have changed his faceup later

    14. None of my BJDs have had company face ups, but I totally get why people pay extra for them! I repainted for 2 years on vinyl before getting my hands on my first resin project - even with lots of experience it's very intimidating at first! The technique is quite different.

There's also something comforting about being able to take it all off and not having to worry. One of my best friend's daughters took a permanent marker to her grail doll's face and after much panic and crying, she was able to get it all off. If they can survive sharpie, it's a miracle in my books! XD

    15. My first doll didn't come with a company face-up. Instead, I sent him (actually I physically brought him) to an face-up artist because it's so convenient to get to a face-up artist in my city. We literally met at the metro station and she was able to finish the face-up within 3-4 days.

    16. Yes, I wanted something complete to look at right away. I also honestly don't have any interest in trying face-ups on my own.

    17. I really wanted to do my own face-up so my first one, all of them so far, have been blank. But I do have a Fullset on layaway for Lan from doll leaves because I feel in love with the face-up so I’m not against them lol.

    18. Yes, my doll had a factory face-up. I am not talented in painting so I knew I couldn't do it. I didn't want to send her away as she was my first BJD. I liked the face-up and I love the doll.

    19. My first, second and third dolls came home with default face-up. I just fell in love with the promo images of the first and second (both DoD) and bought them with face-up. The third was Soom and at that moment I didn't know what face-up I want for him. Now I have no dolls with company face-up.

    20. My first doll, a Volks SD Kun, came mint in box with the company default face-up. She's kept it ever since. :3nodding:The funny thing is, when people see her face, they don't think it's a default face-up for some reason. :sweat We've compared her to other Kuns from that time and it just seems she has a slight variance to her face. Whatever the case, we love her!
