1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Did your FIRST doll come with a faceup?

Dec 16, 2013

    1. My first doll came with a factory face up. He was a LUTS doll, and I thought that their face ups looked better than a lot of custom face ups, so I was happy with it. ^^

    2. I got my first girl with a company face up, but I intended to wipe it and do my own. She was my face-up guinea-pig She has had 5 different face-ups in the past 3 years I think, haha. I finally made one that I really like, I think she will be keeping it for a while :)

    3. Totally opted for the factory faceup, because at the time I started the hobby, I knew absolutely nothing about faceups and just wanted to get my hands on a doll. It wasn't until I decided to shoot for a really expensive doll that I figured I'd try my hand at it, because at the time there was no way I could afford $800 AND a faceup. Now I tend to buy my dolls blank in hopes that I'll actually develop some decent faceup skills.

That being said, my first doll still has the factory faceup and I'd sort of like to change it, but I get nervous when I think about the fact that I can't undo erasing it.

    4. When I was first dipping my toes in the hobby, I got an event head during one of the events at Alice's Collections.
I used that to practice on before my first full doll arrived. It was so odd for me to work on a 3D canvas, and I'm glad
that I was able to practice on the head before totally butchering my boy!

Thank goodness, I found out a lot of things through that first faceup: I hated watercolor pencils, pastels needed to
be built up through different layers so that they don't look like dirt, and to USE A RESPIRATOR. LOL

Goodness. my naivety astounds me to this day.

    5. I purchased a faceup for many of the reasons that many of you said... probably the main one: I couldn't see myself developing the skills quick enough to do a great job... these dolls are so beautiful (especially with beautiful faceups) that I didn't want to wreck my first doll or wait to send it out and get it back. Now even though I've bought all the stuff, MSC'd some event heads, I still rather scared to try...

    6. I am waiting for my first doll to come in the mail, it is secondhand so she has a faceup already. However, I plan on doing a faceup after I get a feel for what kind of character I want her to be.

    7. My first doll did come with a face-up because I knew nothing about BJD at all. Now I have ordered one without a face up and am going to do it myself. Ive been practicing on boiled eggs. Close in texture to resin and can clean if you make a mistake and is cheap and readily available ! Try it !

Anybody else ever try a face up on a boiled egg or am I nutz ? lo

    8. I think I would be horrible at doing face-ups. For my first doll (and the second, but he has yet to arrive) I ordered the face-up that came with it and I think I'll continue to do that unless the face-up really doesn't suit the picture in my head that I have of how my doll should look. If that happens I think I will send it away, even though I'm quite uneasy about that, sending my doll off to someone else..

    9. In my case, the makeup that Supiadoll provides is exactly what I wanted for the character for my BJD, so I asked for Smokey Makeup and she is very beautiful! :D

    10. My very first doll came with a company faceup. Most of my dolls came with faceups, except for two that I purchased in the MP here. Still have a doll that needs a face. :sweat

    11. I chose to get the factory faceup on all my dolls. It never dawned on me to do my own. Plus I'm terrified of ruining them.

    12. My first doll came with a campany face-up,the face up look not very good,I really like to sent my doll to a faceup artist, beacuse the same money, higher quality,in fact, the face-up from a faceup artist is much better than a company face-up.I really want to do the face-up by myself but I have no time to do it.

    13. My first doll came blank, I actually meant it as a practice head but I changed my mind the day after I bought her :XD:
It's really weird to mention but I actually saw her face in a dream, her painted face, while I was waiting. And after that I couldn't detach myself from the lifelike image she had in my dream and I was too attached to it already to just use it for practice.
So I got her a body and eventually did her face-up, which didn't turn out too bad but not very good either. :sweat
I'm currently planning to send her to a face-up artist.

    14. My first BJD , an Elfdoll Mir, I ordered without a faceup. He got his first faceup the day he arrived. His lips somehow turned out orange, LOL! But I have gotten much better over time. My most recent faceup is on the the doll on my avatar photo. My first doll was definitely my "guinea pig" I think he has probably had eight faceups by now.

    15. My 2005 Juri came with a face up and it was really pretty and I loved it. Luts/CP did a great job but for her birthday this year she got a makeover. I think she loves it. I do!

    16. My first doll had a default faceup! Someday I'd like to commission some custom faceups, but for now, default faceups are easy. :) I don't think I'll ever start customizing my own, though. I'd be too nervous about painting such fine details on such delicate molds!!

    17. My first doll (the first one that arrived) didn't have a face up. That's because he was a body for a head I didn't have yet, but he came with a free head anyway in an event. When I opened the box I loved his free head immediately, much more than the head he was supposed to just be the body for. He'll definitely be getting his own face up at some point!

I keep making the mistake of thinking that ordering a head with the company face up will save time because I won't have to wait while I send the head to a face up artist. It's about time I learned that this is not true!

    18. That face up looks just fine to me... well done !

    19. I'm ordering with faceup because I'm totally new to this hobby, I didn't know that they need faceup and I never saw any blank head before... So I just thought that they had that face and I cannot customized them (silly me) luckily I had friend who told me about this before I buy my doll lol

    20. I got the company face up on my first doll because I was too scared to do it myself and I thought that the company's was really pretty anyway. But I later regretted that because that particular doll I never really bonded with and I think it has to do with the lack of personalization on my part for the face.
