1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Did your FIRST doll come with a faceup?

Dec 16, 2013

    1. I bought Briar with a default faceup even though I don't plan on keeping it. I just didn't want him to have a blank face while I was gathering materials/building confidence/etc.

    2. My very first was an original version MSD Volks Sakura kit without face-up (or stringing or sanded seams-- UGH!).

At the time Sakura was purchased, obtaining a doll with a face-up was not easy for American collectors. A person had to know how to purchase through a Japanese venue or purchase through the limited selection available at the time from the single US retailer.

I salivated over YJapan!'s face-upped offerings and Volks Japan's offerings and wished I was brave enough to either bid on a YJapan auction or use a purchasing agent.-- Also there was no such thing as easily accessed face-up/stringing tutorials so it was the wild west for any collector not in the inner circle.

I love all the options for collectors in most any country available today-- it is just wonderful!

    3. My first came to me blank, I got her with the intention of learning how to do faceups myself so I would have just wiped her anyway.

    4. My first was a resinsoul that came with a faceup. She was incredibly cute, but I ended up selling her on here later. I think the resinsoul face ups are very nice and clean, so if I ever ordered from them again and had no plans I'd ask for one.

    5. Yes, my first doll I ordered with default makeup. I have long wanted to test and experiment with makeup, but I did not want to do this with my first doll. But for sure I will try the next.

    6. I got my first doll second hand, but she still had her default face up. After I got face up supplies, I wiped it and gave her a new faceup that suits her character much better.

    7. Yep! Actually, all of mine I got with face-ups (either intentionally or part of the fullset).
I don't have the materials or the confidence to do something on my own yet... If I ever end up with a blank floating head from a promotion I may start with that, I also considered that maybe some time down the line if my first doll's face-up gets scuffed up I'll wipe it and give her a new one.

    8. I dont think ill ever get any dolls with a faceup. Mostly because i have to get the doll blank, and secondly because the factory faceup never fits their characters. I want to do most of them myself but im considering sending one or two off for faceups.

    9. I always do my own faceups now and even when I have gotten my second doll ever. I believe my second doll I bought had the most faceups ever when compared to my others. I was a bjd enthusiast for years until I was old enough to get my first bjd. I joined the bjd hobby by buying a fullset SD 68cm doll with a faceup, body blush and so on. My first doll was complete for me and I still have him. I usually recommend a faceup for a very first doll when joining the hobby. It's nice.

    10. Mine doll came without a faceup, I painted it myself. I do not think that I will ever get a doll with a company faceup. It takes additional time to ship and I like to do everythink myself.:)

    11. I have to dolls, both didn't come with a face-up. I like to do them myself :) i still have a lot to learn but i really enjoy it

    12. I got my first doll, a Leekeworld Rosemary, with the default company faceup, because I was very much not confident in my own ability. Quite frankly, I was terrified of the idea of doing it myself. Besides, the deafult faceup went very well with the character I had in mind anyway.

    13. I just got my first doll and I had the company do a custom face up on her... I'm not ready to try it myself, I'm not brave enough. But she came out beautifully. Maybe sometime down the road with a different doll I'll try it out.

    14. Yep! My first doll was purchased secondhand from my best friend who got me into the hobby. All of my dolls have come with faceups except my most recent one, who I purchased with a blank face.

    15. Yes. I absolutely fell in love my first bjd (Angell Studio Victoria), head to toe, and wanted her as close to the stock photo as possible. Also, I was way too intimidated to do my own face up on her. She was just too precious to me. I buy both blank dolls and ones with face ups now. It's hard not to fall in love the company face ups in stock photos sometimes.I tend to do my own face ups on the cheaper dolls.

    16. No, she was ordered blank, and then I had my good friend (now girlfriend) do her face-up for me. That's how I do it with most of my dolls now. ^^

    17. My first was bought second hand and came with a very ligh (non-professional) make up. I decided to try my hand at it it while it was not good it was not a disaster neither. The second came blank and I made a much better job. But somehow I lost the spark to keep doing make ups. The last ones I bough all came with the company face up, or, in the case of the last two, with face ups made by professionals. I'm just too lazy to try my hand at it again.

    18. I did! I didn't want to have to worry about finding a face-up artist at the time, since I was so new to the hobby. Plus I couldn't draw/paint for anything haha. I usually order my dolls with face-up unless I don't like it (most of the times I love their default face-up enough to buy it though), or there's no face-up option. Again, for the same reasons.

    19. My first doll I found in a charity shop so I didn't have much choice, but she came with a face up :P I'm considering buying a second doll now and think I'll definitely get him with a face up. From experience with OT dolls I'm awful at face ups and miss my dolls too much when they're not around (i.e. sent away for face ups) ~

    20. My first doll was a gift from a friend, it was fullset and face up included naturally. If the doll was without makeup I wouldn't know what to do. It is only now (one year later) I can draw it myself or know who can do, and if I buy a doll, I'll buy it without faceup.
