Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. Did your FIRST doll come with a faceup?

Dec 16, 2013

    1. I got my first doll (Resinsoul/Bobobie Mei) second hand, and she had a subtle face-up. After about a month or so, I decided to send her off to get a new face-up and body blushing that I thought would fit her better, and she now looks prettier than ever :)

    2. My first Luts doll came with the company's make-up, and the face-up is beautiful. Now that I'm in a way "starting over" with my bjd collection, my new "first" did not come with a face-up, since I have a face-up in mind for him. :) Not for me to do, though! :P I'm going to commission someone in the future.

    3. Yes. My first doll is coming with a stock face-up.

Don't know of any face-up artist nor did I try to look for one. Didn't want to learn to do face-ups myself for fear of screwing up and turning myself off from the hobby. A positive experience is important for a new hobby. :) Decided on the factory face-up from looking at all the different various owners' photos, which i believe and hope isn't customs.:sweat

    4. My first came with her factory faceup. I had A friend helping me in the process of getting my very first bjd and said that if I got her without a faceup I may end up not liking her and or the hobby as it's a different look when a doll is faceless. I've had her two years now and just recently wiped her default faceup and gave her a new one :). I also didn't know how to do faceups back then, so I'm glad I got her with a face up:). She's the one picture as my avatar.

    5. I bought my first doll with a face-up. It was nice in being able to play with her immediately upon arrival. :) Actually, most of my dolls did come with them, though in several cases I did eventually send them off for custom face-ups.

    6. My first doll came with a face-up as I bought her second hand.. and I am so glad she did! Like many others have mentioned, I was scared of messing things up and didn't want to give it a try!! Lately, I have been feeling more and more adventurous, though, and I would eventually like to do my own face-up :)

    7. My first doll came second-hand with a faceup I didn't like... but I was too scared to either try doing it myself or sending him away, so I left it like that for a year. Now it's all wiped off, and I'm just waiting to be able to send him for a new one.

    8. I got my first doll as a full set, so he came with the company faceup.

    9. My first doll came as a fullset so he already had a face-up. I did pretty much immediately send him away to a face-up artist though, as the one he came with just wasn't working for me.

The cool thing about doing your own face-ups though is you don't have to worry about getting it just right; you can always wipe it and start over!

    10. My first doll was ordered as a fullset with a faceup just so I'd get the whole idea of what a bjd was and what one could look like before I tried things myself.

    11. My first doll came with a company faceup, although it's expensive and not good... I want my first doll come home perfectly. About 1 month later I tried paint him myself, it's quite interesting and challenging. :D

    12. My first doll came with a company faceup for the same reason many of you have stated. She was already going to have to be naked for a while, while I looked for the right clothes for her, so I didn't want her to be totally blank when she arrived and for the months after. I am glad I did. I think I may have been put off by her if I hadn't. So much money to not be able to see the character she was suppose to become. It worked really well in the long run. Her default face is simple and soft and just right for her charatcer and I plan to keep it unless and until it gets messed up.

    13. He came with a face-up, it took me a couple of months to decide to wipe it and do one myself now that I've seen what details to aim for. I think the first face-up for the first doll is just a sample of the possible faces you can have (if you do it yourself or getting someone else to do it).

    14. My first doll came with official face-up which is pretty good, but after a year i'm already thinking about sending him for new one with more colors added.

    15. My first doll came with a company face-up. I loved it to pieces, but he fell and it got scratches so he had to get a new one. The new face-up fits his character better, though.

    16. I ordered my first doll (Island Doll Cookie) with a face-up but I did not enjoy it! She looked constantly shocked or scared and I had bothered me. With help from a friend and the internet I redid her face on my own probably about 3 times. Finally I had sent her to get her face-up done by someone else and I love it and don't plan on changing it anytime soon.

    17. I bought my first doll with the company face-up. And then... I bought every other doll since with their company face-ups as well :)

Personally, I prefer tweaking company face-ups to doing my own (or commissioning someone else). The only doll I bought blank, I immediately sent back to the company to have them paint her for me (:aheartbea Soom for working with me to get my grail doll this way!)

I understand some people bond with their dolls through face-upping them, but I personally find I can bond just fine with dolls even when they have the company face-up.

    18. My first doll did not, since I wanted to do it myself. But after spending so much time on him I have a huge appreciation for company faceups..its a lot of work to get it to look nice ;w;
i only really buy blank dolls, of course they're cheaper but i feel like i bond a lot with a doll while working on their faceup ^^

    19. Mine came with a custom company face-up because I was so intent on making her perfect. I had such a specific image for her (black hair, dark eyes, white dress, cute Lolita shoes...) but after four years, she's gone through such an image crisis and ended up being blonde, snobby, grey eyed and wears lots of colour... several face-ups... xD! And still I'm not happy with her. Aiiyaa~

    20. I just remembered my Clare came with a face up as well since I bought her as a full set. She looked angry though so I sent her to be redone as well. Guess I'm not a fan of company face ups!! At least not yet haha
