DIKA Doll discussion

Zomboid - to be honest there's not much of a frown there, he's got quite a neutral expression. I just got my Dikadoll Ruber Vampire head yesterday and while a great sculpt, he has a lot of problems. Has anybody else noticed quality issues with Dikadolls?

He has raised lines on him, cuts that appear to be done with a razorblade and a resin chunk stuck to his chin. I posted a question and pix in Buying/Shipping Questions about it and have contacted MoC.

Is this common or did I get a defective head?

And has anybody else had issues with the headcaps? The owner's guide shows magnets, but after pulling and prying for probably 10 minutes, I finally gave him a good, hard twist and the cap came off and is held on my two resin nubby hooks that hook into the ledges inside his head. I'm glad I didn't ask my husband to pull apart these "strong magnets" or poor Atticus would be in pieces!

Despite my complaints, I really love the sculpt and I want to keep him, I'm just really worried about the cuts and lines on his face and that they'll look even worse with a faceup. Any suggestions? Is this normal?

 

CloakedSchemer, I hadn't such problems with my Dikadoll Chi, but it really took me about 10 minutes to open his head. It has strange construction with two grooves and two small strong magnets and you need to twist nape to open. I'm glad that I read about this on our Russian forum before I got my doll.
Also I can't understand which wig size is sute to him. 8-9 inches is too big and 7-8 is too small.

 

Chukcha2- hmmm....so this is a rare case.....good to know it's not normal, but sad that it happened to my boy. I did get the head open without breaking him, but it's so strange! and there are no magnets in his head at all. I wonder if they've just changed the construction of it?
I have an 8-9 wig on my Ruber and it fits him very well. What brand wig are you using? If he is an inbetween size, Monique wigs are very stretchy, so a 7-8 would probably fit him. Or maybe get him a wig cap to help take up space?

 

CloakedScheme, now I use Leekeworld 8-9 wig, it-s very nice and I like it, but it seems to me that this wig is too deep for this head. I tried to move it forward or back but in any case the fringe fully closes Severus's eyes althought it shouldn't.

 

I have that problem with Atticus's hair too. The wig fits, but the hair wants to stay in his face. I think I'm going to try hairspray to keep it to the side.

Severus is so pretty! I love his profile!

cloakedschemer, that is the old construction. my Batian came like that. However the scratches sound odd. I've owned three Dika dolls and they have all been impeccably smooth finish wise. Dif you get him second hand or from a dealer?

 

Invie- I got him through Mint on Card, brand new. It took over 3 months for him to get here, he was a preorder. Since he's new, I wonder why he has old construction...so odd! Anyway, I contacted MoC, Lindsey told me it is NOT normal and apologized for the issues. She's going to let me keep him (since I opted not to return him, I love the sculpt and didn't want to wait another 3-4 months) and is sending a free Miao head as compensation. I considered that an acceptable partial refund, and I sanded him a bit. it fixed the resin chunk on his chin and the cuts are better but not totally gone. I didn't think I was capable of fixing the lines in him, but faceup seemed to help and his wig partly covers it. He's not perfect, but that's ok, I'll live.

 

Hey guys, I have a quick question- someone at a doll meet told me she had a Dikadoll MSD, and that the feet were too small for her to stand properly. Has anyone had this issue with the SD's?

 

Thank you! I'm really wanting to get MuRong on the 5-part torso body in the future, and the feet looked proportional to me in the pics but I just wanted to make sure. Thanks again!

 

UPDATE:

Here's Atticus after all the sanding and faceup work. He still needs a body and I have to find a way to attach his horns, but it's a start!

 

Well. I got my Autumn... No pics yet, doing his face-up now and trying to bond with him. (Kinda disappointed, I love him, but he doesn't feeeeeel right for the character I had in mind, even though he's a gooorgeous sculpt, and a fabulous poser.)

Now, I have to ask... Oh my god, where have you people found pants that fit them?
I popped him into my DZ boys black slacks, and they don't fit at all... the big DikaDoll bodies hips and thighs are too big.

 

hobbywhelmed- I don't think the head is on the small size. It's smaller than my Leeke and Crobi heads, I think, but he wears the same wig size as many of my other SD boys (AoD, 5star, Doll Love, etc)

Chukcha2, your Sev looks beautiful I think I see what you mean about the wig being too 'deep' though? My Chi is wearing an 8-9 Crobidoll wig and it fits him perfectly. Sunny's 8-9's fitted really great too.
