DiM (Doll in Mind) Mini Discussion Part 5

Hybrids are intimidating for sure. I've only done ONE thus far and it took a bit of testing on different bodies to figure out. Which is why i'd prefer to have either confirmed "yes this fits" from someone or test it myself with existing dolls heh.

I have four incoming heads that need bodies and it's a bit stressful.

That said, Angelesque happens to HAVE a DIM Happy body in stock, but i'm informed they don't really work with the DIM heads without some modding which is... bizarre.

 

DIM has always been one of those companies where people really love the heads but not the bodies. The bodies aren't bad aesthetically, but they're not very poseable. A few years ago, they came out with new, less mature bodies for the Happy line, but they never even fit the heads they came with very well. Their hands were always just as exquisite as their heads, though.

There is an old thread about DIM hybrids. I think it's called DIM Happy Heads, Bodies Comparison. Wolfboy had a chart on there showing a lot of the heads and how wildly different they are in size. It's probably on Flickr too.

 

Yesterday I managed to purchase a Flowne normal skin head (with COA) second-hand for a good price and she will be my first BJD head! I am so hyped! it will probably be 2 weeks before she arrives here though.

So now I really want a minifee body for her, even if the skin color and neck size is slightly off.. I saw some hybrids in this combination and I really like it so I will see if I can pull it off.

I was planning to wait for my Den of Angels Marketplace approval because I am afraid to be scammed out of my money but the seller seemed like a good person so fingers crossed.

Apparently the group order heads are mostly ready, waiting on two sculpts to be done but they're getting there.
which is exciting.

I ordered 3 heads because i'm mad hahahaha, but i'm looking forward to painting them up. I do love me an unusual expressive face and DIM certainly have very characterful heads.

 

they're supposed to ship by the end of march! i'm very excited. the person on instagram who put together the group order messaged me though, and DiM only has WS Laias left. i said i would take her anyway, even though i wanted NS. i'll find something to do with her!

 

Ahh my Flowne (NS) arrived and she is so cute. Now I will look for a body!

I heard people mentioning these brands for the best hybrid option:
- Doll leaves (?)
- Dollzone (Normal pink skin)
- Magic Time (Normal Pink)
- Doll Family-H (Normal Pink)

But what is the best resin match? I understood DIM is quite light. I would like a matching resin color.

Please help me out so I can complete my very first BJD!

 

@Folthan I've got my ns DiM heads on Dollzone bodies, and the match is almost perfect. I've got Doll leaves bodies, but I'd have to wait til tomorrow for natural light to see if it's a closer match

No worries~ Looking again, I'd say Doll Leaves is the closer match. DiM is a bit pinker than both, but the difference between all three is minimal unless you're really looking, and could easily be blushed to match. Personally I prefer DZ for the posing (I love the aesthetics of the new Doll Leaves boy body but he's going to need sueding, he doesn't like sitting or keeping his legs bent at all :\ ) The girl bodies have very similar aesthetics, but again DZ is a much nicer poser

 

My Miru is on a loongsoul body (normal-pink urethane) and the match is very close. DIM is slightly lighter, but with a faceup you can't tell.

I’m considering now between their b-g43-03 and Dollzone one. Loongsoul short legs body really looks infantile and cute

 

Hi everyone, I ordered my Larina head today, I was wondering if anyone knows her eye & wig size so I can order some?

 

Larina wears a 7/8 and the eyes I use are 12mm.

 

@taichas Thank that’s really helpful! 12 mm it’s for Dreaming head , or wide open eyed head is also ok?

 

I own both heads, but I'm still waiting for my open eye head to arrive home 12mm seems to work well for the dreaming head.

 

Thank you so much!! I ordered the open-eyes version but I imagine if 12mm works for the half-closed head, it should work for the open-eyes, too.

Hello Guys, I´m waiting for a DIM head Benetia, Normal Skin, and I want to make a hybrid with a myou body. Should I pick the normal skin or pink skin to match my head?

 

Your best bet is probably pink skin as DIM normal resin is pretty pink.
