Oh, Denny! This looks absolutely amazing! And the likeness to cheshiretiffy is very well rendered in the sculpt.

I would be interested once you get the 60cm going... I really want a doll of myself to insert into photostories, so this would be perfect. x3

I missed where the price was stated... how much are these OOAK dolls?

The idea is fabulous. One of the most original I've seen in a long time!

 

It's $600, with a sleeping head as well, including make-up for the standard head. $70 for extra make-up, I believe.

 

Wow, that's awesome! I can definitely see the resemblance. I'm glad that it was still able to retain the looks of what you would expect from a BJD. When you start making the SDs, I might have to work on saving up for one!

 

WOW that's not bad at all! @_@ I thought it was more in the $800 range.

 

It is just the two heads. No body is included.

Just to clarify.

 

What bodies are compatible with the heads? I heard that SD10 Volks is a good match.

 

I understand your reasons, Tiffy, but I think it would be *really* helpful if Denny could show people exactly what he worked from to get the result he got. It would help to show people what kind of photos they need to send in, and what degree of likeness they can expect.

I really can understand being embarrassed about photos, but... Well, I thought that had been the whole idea behind the offer to make a sample doll of a volunteer -- they get the doll in exchange for Denny having the photos of owner and doll to show to people. And honestly, from the one picture I've seen of you, you don't have anything to be embarrassed about!

Isn't there at least one or two pictures out of those you sent in that you wouldn't be too embarrassed about? If they were resized a bit to not be quite so close-up, maybe?

Sorry, I don't mean to harrass you, it's just that this is the kind of thing I'd personally really like to see before I decided to order a custom doll. (Not that I can afford it at the moment, sadly.)

EDIT: And congrats on the baby, as well as the doll! The doll turned out beautifully!

But I agree with Keladry, considering this was a volunteering thing and Denny is giving them free to Tiffy, I think it would be nice to help her by showing her potential customers what they are interested in seeing, which is basically the extent of resemblance from the photographs she based the doll on.

I'm sorry, I am not willing to share those photos and that is that. Like I've said repeatedly, I will take photos with the doll when she arrives. I'm sure you will be able to get a very good idea of how accurate she is when we're side by side.

Denny has already stated what kind of photos are needed: front view, profile view and 3/4th view. If you want to be super helpful, do a from the top down photo, an under the chin pointing up photo and any other angles you want. I'm sure they would appreciate as much reference as you're willing to give, but only the first three angles mentioned are necissary.

For mine, I put my hair in a ponytail, clipped my bangs back and held the camera out in front of my face to take them by myself. Nothing fancy is needed. The sculptor did a very good job and the mouth and nose are very accurate.

And keep in mind that I asked for my doll to be LESS realistic. He had wanted to do a very, very close copy of my own face but I asked for BJD style instead. If you go to www.dimdoll.com and click on the MiniMee announcement (it is an eBay listing for a 1/6th scale action figure version) you can see how realistic the sculpts can be.

Denny, also, did NOT sculpt the doll. It was sculpted by a hired artist.

 

They make a 60cm and I am IN! This is an awesome idea! Can't wait to see your comparison pics ^_^

 

I'm looking forward to taking them :3 it ought to be a very fun day. I'm going to get my makeup and hair professionally done and all that. I hope they do the doll justice.

But yeah the doll is spot on, and looks so great, right down to the eyebrows!

 

Whoops ^^;;; *goes to look for person who told me Denny was a she* So Denny isn't the sculptor, but more of the PR person/manager of DIM?
