Dim Minimee Update & Talk Part 1

I think the decision to make the heads bigger was based on my having said that my MSD size head was closer to Unoa size (quite a bit smaller, and nearly properly proportioned to the body I put her on) and the first order of MiniMee owners expressed the same sentiment that the heads were smaller than expected.

Personally, I do think that with the really realistic sculpts having the big-head look is a little off, but its all up to personal preference.

 

I think it's really hard to say whether the heads are the "right" size, because the realistic proportions are so different from regular ABJDs, even the most realistic of which is extremely stylised. I personally would worry a lot less about the wig size and more how the whole thing looks. I think it will be very hard, for example, to ever make a very realistic head look truly natural on a Volks SD13 boy body, no matter what the size. It's just sort of the nature of the thing. ^^;;

 

The head I'm going to order isn't extremely realistic at all, but I still worry about a bobble head appearance. It worries me that I'm hearing that people are having trouble even putting 9-10 wigs on their Minimee. The heads as they are now look better suited for larger bodies....like 70-80cm bodies, not 60cm. That's a problem for me because I have no interest in dolls larger than 60cm. ;-;

Denny, perhaps you can take a sample of one of the new DIM heads to your sculptors? Just so they get the right idea about what size the head should be. They can also examine the neck hole from the DIM too and maybe get a better idea of what to do there.

I'd be very interested, especially if the dolls could be sculpted not just of you, but of other people.

i'm with you on that. as georgeous as these dolls are coming out to be it takes a little of the pleasure off not being able to make find a fitting body. the other problem too is that there are at least bodies for that would fit these larger heads, at least for the boys, but with the same size the girls would still look out of proportion since the tallest girls don't usually go above 60cm.

 

It would defiately be nice to see the heads be a tiny bit smaller. Not massively so, but just a little.

Guide's head is so big that the wig he is wearing is held on entirely with velcro, and doesn;t really reach back past his headcap at the back. Luckily, it is very long so you can;t see the gap. >_>

 

Maybe in a year or so, I'll have the money, but me and my fiancee are stuck on the "I want it to be of you" and "No, I want it to be you!" x.x
Maybe we should just buckle down and order heads of both >.<

 

My Minimee head is supposed to be SD-sized, but it's kind of small. Since it looks funny on other company's bodies, I just hope I can buy a Minimee body that fits it well and looks proportional. (Whenever I get the money, which will be a while, egh!)

Annika: I would consider Elfdoll boys and Lati Reds to be on the more realistic side of BJDs... Smaller head, smaller eyes, same average height as the other boys.

Zalem: I'm looking into a Soom Sabik body for my boy =_= ;; Though the resin match is totally off...... *sighs*

 

I totally agree, they are about as realistic as BJDs ordinarily get. However, they're still extremely stylised when compared to (for example) the Bowie or Jolie heads in this thread (just imagine what Lati K would look like if he suddenly became flesh!). ^^

 

he'd be hideous... like all stylized dolls made into real people... what we deem pretty in dolls would look terribly odd on a living person.

Sorry to hear about the body, but if you artists are not happy with it, maybe it is better to start again. Could you maybe tell us what type you are trying to make? (Male/female, mature/young, muscled/slender - last one only for boys, of course!) It would really help some of us to decide whether to get a body now or wait for the official ones to come out. ^^

Arianhod is not muscle-bound, but she has a very athletic body, unfortunately there aren't any female bodies like that. XD

 

Great news. I want the one I already ordered in normal skin, but I'm considering ordering a different head in white now that you have it...

I'm sure 8.5~9inch will look perfect on a Dollshe body.
