Dim Minimee Update & Talk Part 1

I just found this thread. I have to say, "WOW!" These sculpts are just amazing. I saw the Angelina Jolie one the other day and didn't realize there was a whole thread dedicated to the Minimees. I think this is a really good idea, but I'm hoping for at least a tan skintone. I'll keep checking back in to see everyone's custom heads.

I noticed that a lot of picture post the heads showing a gray tone. Are those just pictures of the proofs? Do the heads come in white and normal? I'm sorry if this was asked already. Thanks!

The photos of the gray heads are just proofs, they're the base sculpt - made of clay, from this they are cast and made of resin. I think only normal tone heads are available at the moment. (Someone correct me if I'm wrong. )

 

This looks amazing. I cant afford one right now, but i'd love to get one in about a year.

OK, I got my Bob Pollard heads today completely unexpectedly. I was just about to e-mail Denny and ask when I might expect them and they showed up on my doorstep! Overall I think the sculpt is quite good although I'll be sanding the nose slightly narrower and also probably modding the mouth to be wider. I had the jaw widened and they didn't automatically make the mouth wider with the jaw, but that's a fairly easy fix with some sanding and milliput I'd guess.

The heads are still slightly on the large side. They don't look as huge as the pictures of the previous monster head batch, but they are large enough to rule out some bodies as too small. Also, the resin is really creamy-pinky-white, which means that some blushing will be needed to match a lot of resins. Here's what I've looked at so far, as fortunately I have a lot of bodies in the house:

1) Volks NS - The Minimee head is a little whiter than the Volks normal resin. Could probably blush to match. Head would be slightly too big for an SD13 body, but only slightly because Volks heads are large.

2) Volks Old BW - My old BW, slightly yellowed Volks boy was actually a pretty good match for the Minimee resin, probably better than the Volks NS. The undertone of the old Volks resin is more greeny-yellowy than pinky but it was not that far off.

3) Volks New BW - Too white for Minimee normal resin (I expected that).

4) Luts - Luts normal resin is darker than the Minimee head, and Luts BW is too white. Also, this head is definitely too big for a Luts regular boy body. I don't own a Luts Mature body so did not try that but I suspect this head would also be too big for that because Luts Mature is supposedly same size as the regular Luts only mature. This head needs one of the larger guy doll bodies.

5) Dollmore - I was hoping this would be a good match because the Dollmore buff body is reasonably close to the real person's body, but unfortunately the Dollmore heads are skinny and this head is too wide/fat/whatever to look good. You could probably hide this problem by putting baggy clothes on the doll, but since one of the problems I have with celeb dolls in general (not just Minimees) is that the heads are disproportionate to the bodies, I'd rather have a body that matches size better. Also, the Dollmore resin is a little too dark for this head.

6) Dollshe - I have these all over the place but didn't bother to try any because once I saw the Dollmore body needed a skinnier head, I knew this head would NOT work on a Dollshe. Also, the Dollshe body is too skinny for the person the head is supposed to be (an older man who's a little paunchy).

7) Dollzone - This was the best match in size for the head. The DZ Normal resin is just slightly darker than the Minimee normal resin. This could probably be fixed with blushing. This body is a definite possibility for those of you with larger heads. Be warned it's a pretty buff body, so if you have a really thin character in mind, it might not look right.

8 ) Unidoll Real (Jace) - I also tried this body although it's a little too buff for the person because I really want to get the optional gripping hands and I'm not sure if they'll work on any of the other bodies. Jace has a buff body but for some reason his head is kind of on the small side, so the Minimee head is just verging on slightly too big. It's fairly close and once the doll was dressed it would probably look all right, so this body is also a possibility.

9) Limhwa - I don't have a Limhwa Mano and haven't ordered one but I was wondering if the body would possibly work for Minimee since someone said the french resin was a good match for Minimee resin. I pulled out my Half-Elf to check the match. I thought the french resin was a noticeably different color from Minimee resin, as well as being more luminous. It wasn't a horrible mismatch, and could probably be matched with some blushing, but if I did get a Mano for use with a Minimee, I'd probably want urethane instead. Of course I have no idea what color Limhwa urethane would be.

Soooo...after all that I am going to go with my original plan of ordering an Iplehouse Buff body, which may end up being too small, in which case it will either hit the marketplace or end up receiving some other head (there's always heads floating around here looking for a home). Iple Buff has this little paunch and if the six pack or eight pack or whatever is sanded, it's going to be the closest approximation of an aging athletic body, as the legs are still skinny and it's not as ripped as the Jace or the Dollzone. So I will order the Iple body today since I don't have one in the house, and see if that works out.

Edited to add, I also have noticed some people on the forums suggesting Bishonen House bodies for these larger heads. This head would probably be a good size match for the old style Bishonen house body, but the only ones of those I own are BW and Purple, neither of which match, and I'd prefer to keep my Bishonen boys on their own bodies thanks Also, Donn is no longer making the old style stylized body. I know Donn is doing a newer more realistic buff male body now, but it was my understanding it was a little smaller and also very limited. I didn't buy one of those at this time because I really wanted to get one in a tan and he's only doing NS right now. Also I have no idea if he's going to be selling that body by itself or if you have to get it as a full doll with a head.

 

I put my minimee on my limhwa half elf body and the match was perfect, other than the luminosity issue. However, mine is a bit older and has yellowed slightly.

 

yes, I remembered you saying it was a good match so I checked, even though I think the Mano body is a little too physically skinny/young for my guy. It wasn't an awful match but there was definitely a difference. My Half-Elf is kept in a cupboard away from all light so she probably hasn't yellowed much.

I'm also wondering if the Minimee heads are changing a little bit resin-wise batch to batch, because someone else said their Dollmore resin matched their Minimee head very well and when I looked at my Dollmore Male body (which is also kept away from light) it wasn't a good match at all. Unless Dollmore is using a different resin for the model boys as opposed to model girls, as I think the person who said it matched had a girl Minimee head.

These Minimee heads I got are really white - I almost wondered if they were white resin by mistake but when I looked inside the head I saw enough pink that I could tell it was not pure white resin. It's just a very light creamy pinkwhite.

While we're on the subject of resin matching - Could anyone offer any information about the match of a Dream of Doll, DoT body?

i know dream of doll went to a more pure light pinky color for their normal skin from the old very yellow resin. My MNF Shiwoo is a white skin, but when i sat him next to my DOCs, he was far more yellow in tones, and from what I've seen on the bigger molds, the resin is the same, Luts has a more yellow tone to it, where as DOD has that pinky tone to it. size wise I'm not sure, but color wise you might get lucky cause DOD is very pale pinkish white without being white skinned.

 

Bunnydots, that is incredibly informative. I agree about the general girth of the heads making them unsuitable for a lot of smaller/more slender bodies.

I found that my minimee was a really good match to Dollmore resin and to that end I am modding a Model body to be more suitable to my needs. However I kept one head at home and one was sent off for faceups, and now that I have them both in hand again, I can see a difference. The head I didn't send away has yellowed (but this because I left it exposed to sunlight) while the other head is still nice and pink and matches the Dollmore resin. The yellowed head, as bunnydots suggested, matches Volks oldskin BW really well.

So for the DIMbody+head ordered during the offer for current owners, will it be a different colour from the future MiniMee? Because I would like it if the extra head I get this round matches the future body that comes out... I don't know what I would do with heads in two different MiniMee resins that don't match the final MiniMee resin for the body

Does this mean you're making a bigger body to go with the bigger head batches?

 

Hey - my Minimee head looks like its quite a close match to Iplehouse *white skin.* With that new buff boy body from Iplehouse, that might be good for some of the Minimee boys!

 

Iple is only offerring that body in normal resin on their site, not white resin, but the normal looks really white in the picture so I'm hoping it will be a good match, cuz that's what I ordered.

 

How many people here have opted for the BJD-style option? I'm curious about it because the realism of these dolls, in some cases, is a little bit much for me. I want a doll that will still be able to sit next to my Shiwoo and not look out of place. Is that too much to ask? XD;

If someone could please post photos of theor BJD-style minimees, that would be awesome. I want to see how different they are from the 80% realism ones!
