1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Dim Minimee Update & Talk Part 1

Dec 26, 2006

    1. o.O wow... not you've just lost your mind...

    2. My vote still stays for squid-face! >D Ahh the wonderful things I could do with that... XDXD;;;

    3. I'm still voting for Johnny. Someone might have ordered him already, but...I've not seen any pictures of him or anything. (He could still be in the works) I know if I had a Johnny Depp doll I'll spam his face all over the place. It'd be nice if we could make a list of Minimees that have been ordered so people knew which ones were in the works.

    4. I agree!!!! The minimee doll database barely even covers all the minimees running around here on DoA. I'd LOVE to know all of the minimees that have been/are being ordered, which celebs have been covered, and to see pictures of ALL of them.....*wishes* XD

They are like candies to me. O__O :aheartbea

      .

    5. On the french forum, I have a topic with a minimee wishlist so people can see who else might be interested is someone want to order.
It's also useful for group order.

I don't know if such topic exists on DoA.

    6. Well if people actually know that there is a "Minimee Database" why don't they add theirs there?
No need to make another thread for all the made minimees imo :sweat

    7. I wasn't really talking about a database. I was thinking more of a list, so other users on the site could would have knowledge of who's been ordered and what alot of us Minimee Fanatics have planned. To me, and this is just my own opinion, a database is something you join when your doll is at home with you. Anyway...long story short I created a thread in Incoming Dolls. If you'd like to add to it that'd be great.

    8. Oh yes that sounds good...*runs off to join the list* XD

    9. I posted on the list. I think its a geat idea! :) Fan or not of the particular celeb, I am very interested in what everybody else is getting, too!

    10. I just wanted to post a quick picture of my finished Michael Jackson MiniMee. Once again, Denny and his team did a totally amazing job on this guy! :D

Michael is on a modded Dollshe normal-skinned body.

    11. I love your Michael Jackson!! He looks awesome!

    12. I have to agree! Michael's lookin' reaaaallly awesome! <3

    13. Hihi, I wanted some of your opinions on this... just as a casual chat topic. It's been reposted from another thread, cos we were asked to move our discussion over here.

Basically, it's about different orders for the same celebrity.

See, I thought so too initially, and I really wouldn't mind one bit if that were the case... but after I looked through the group order thread, I find they've used pretty much the same photos I did, and given the same specifications '80% realism, mouth slightly open, a bit of smirk', so I doubt they're gonna come out looking very different, or even slightly different. I mean, Miyavi with the same expression can't look that different, unless the sculptor can't follow the photos properly or something.

That's a slight downer for me, because while I don't want to be a PITA about it or selfish for that matter (since Miyavi obviously doesn't belong to me and me alone), it does bug me a little that I paid almost quadruple the amount in total (since mine was a solo order and there weren't the group order options at the time), just to find that there are gonna be 10 others out there near-exactly the same.

      ... I don't know if anyone understands where I'm coming from :(

Annika: Is MJ's faceup from Denny's team, or did you send his head off to another faceup artist? He looks great!

    14. MJ looks awesome! it seems the Dollshe neck is a bit too big for the Minimee head though.. that's a tad depressing.

    15. That's horrible. I understand exactly what you mean. Denny's project offered a chance to have your own OOAK doll. However, there's a lot to be said about OOAK within this hobby. There's been an on going discussion in the Celebrity Doll thread about originality. It kind of figures into your plight because while your decision was with the purest of intention, like you said you don't have any sort of ownership over his image or distribution. I feel really bad. I mean popular celebrities are bound to requested more than once; it's horrible to say but there's really no way to stop it from happening. Fans are fans, and we all have an inflated sense of ownership over our favorite actors, musicians or what-not.

From Denny's stand-point each sculpt is suppose to look a little different. However, the thing is one person can only look so different. Popularity has A LOT to do with it. For the sake of customer satisfaction and sense of ownership, as well as economically speaking (that is to say, making a sculptor sculpt a doll that's already been done once--over again) I think it’d probably be best to institute a policy of once a subject is ordered it can’t be reordered. The exception might be if the user who originally ordered it gave permission for it to be recast. I mean, this is all for Denny to decide and there’s probably little we can do to change his mind. He does have to make a profit and people who order Minimee just have to accept that their subject might be duplicated.

This is just MY opinion. If you don’t agree, that’s fine.

I’m really sorry. I feel so bad. (Big Hugs)

    16. blackpaperbag: that does kind of suck that there are going to be a lot of people with a very similar looking head. I suppose the only thing you might be able to do is let people do a group order of heads cast from your mold, have them pay the amount to you, and try to make up for the extra you paid. Like, if the head costs $70, or whatever, have the group order people pay $100 or more, like they do for the group orders, and keep the extra to offset your costs. It still wouldn't help the fact that you don't have a unique head anymore... but I guess that happens. I have the Bowie head, and I've already had someone get a head from my mold, and I know they paid like, $70 or something, when I paid for the sculpt. But That's life. Maybe I'll bum off someone else's group order or something some day. And I still got the beautiful doll I wanted anyway, so that's what's really important to me. It doesn't detract from how much I love him.

keiko chan: It doesn't look all that bad to me. Necks are supposed to be wide to attach around the jaw, on real people. The only problem I see is the second pic, where the head seems to disconnect a bit. Perhaps that can be fixed by narrowing the top of the neck and widening the head's neck hole?

Annika- is Mike's head from a regular sized batch, or april larger batch? I was curious if it was closer to an SD sized head, or the heads for larger bodies. I have been waiting to see if anyone puts the smaller sculpts on a larger body. Mostly because Kobatastic and I both have the larger april heads on 70cm bodies, and Koba wants a doll to go with her other doll, and I think she wants them to be the same height. So if a smaller head looked ok on a 70cm body, that would be really cool.

    17. Yea, I was from the very first batch, and when we addressed this point initially (as some of us could already forsee this as a potential difficulty), I was under the impression that Denny said he'd ask for 'permission' from the original owner if it'd be okay to recast the sculpt... and that there wouldn't be re-sculpting of the same character. Of course, that could just have been me misunderstanding what he was saying, but I really thought that was the case until the recent influx of double-ordered celebs due to the group orders option *_*

The other thing you mentioned, making the sculptor re-sculpt the doll. Well, if it was the same sculptor, and lets say they didn't manage to make it look similar enough to the celeb, after which the person who ordered had to map out the details of modifications to be done... Well if it was sculpted again by the same person - they'd already have figured out how to do it perfectly, saving the second person a potential modding fee, and not to mention the artist's personal style and visual accuracy will turn out even more similarities between the heads (like how you can tell CP dolls are from the same company).

Thanks for the hugs ^^ Of course, at the end of the day you're right, there's nothing we can do about ownership rights, and it's not like I'd want to keep others from getting their dream doll either, I'd feel bad. It's just. Meh. *smacks self*

luckymirai: Yup, I was pretty much trying to convince myself with 'that's life, suck it up', also because of a number of factors about being the 'test batch' (initial sizing issue, different resin from current, not having a MiniMee body available). But like you, I would still love him even though I am no longer a uneek and speshul snowflaek . That was a good suggestion though, maybe I will try to get my remaining recasts sold off. Thanks~

Anyway! I didn't intend to be a big whining whiney-puss :sweat but I did want to see if anyone else shared my sentiment, thanks so much for both your replies!

    18. ...I'm still stalking here. I don't know about affording a Minimee head in the future, but if I ever can - via group order or what have you - I would LOVE a Cillian Murphy sculpt. LOVELOVELOVE. He would be my Jonathan Crane. <3

    19. I absolutely love the minimee project and I'm really tempted to buy atleast two heads. I have two celebrity's in mind that I would like to turn into different forms of resin characters. A headmold looking like Trent Reznor of Nine inch nails would be one of them.

I know someone has already done a Trent sculpt. Who I absolutely think is amazing by the way. My heads facial expression preference would be a bit more serious looking though. As for my other head. Probably Davey Havok of A.F.I. Hmm...maybe if I could find someone interested in doing a split, since you get two of the same head per order?!?

    20. No I understand it perfectly. And Denny did say that if anyone wanted the same kind of head that they should ask the owner of that head first.
I mean I also wouldn't like it if someone did a grouporder of one of my already ordered heads and asked for the same kind of things I did. So I wouldn't like it if another Die had a frown or Kaoru with an open mouth >_>

Specially if there are suddenly 10 the same as them. For I did, just like you, pay a lot more compared to them for something custom made for me.

So yeah I'm not too fond of grouporders of 5 to 10 sloths ^_^;;, I'll never join one or organize one. And I also didn't order JaeJoong, Hitsugi or Kyo because someone else already did before me. Anyways I'm not trying to be the partypooper on the Minimeetrain, but this is what I think and feel about these things.
