Dioramas and dollhouses???

Jan 8, 2006

    1. That barbie cottage looks alot like the My little pony mansion I've been looking for. But anyways, great stuff! :)

    2. I always love when I see dolls in their own "living" spaces. I don't think that'd be at all for me, though. When I get my first doll, though, I know I'll be super temped to buy all the mini food items, for whatever reason. :?

    3. I've been wondering myself about making a house for my tinies.

The closest thing Loki has to a bed/room right now is my bed, which he has most of to himself.

Though for my tinies, I have ordered two nice beds which I plan to make into bunk beds.

    4. If I had the room to do it I'd totally make a doll house for my boy.
It would just take up an entire wall and stick out a good four feet into the room because he's an SD. xD

Maybe I could make something for my puki when she comes. That wouldn't be hard.

    5. I had a homemade dollshouse as a child, and enjoyed it immensely, but I've never been able to let myself get into such things as an adult, not when I've got the real thing that needs attending to! ^^;;

    6. My doll house is across from my desk so I can look at my angels every day :) The bigger dolls are in a chair next to my bed so I can reach over and touch them when ever I want.

    7. I love the idea of dollhouses and set-ups for them <3 While not an entire 'house', my dad is helping me build individual rooms for each of my boys. ^^ Because I'll only have four ( maybe five, but we don't talk about him ), and their all mini size, I don't think the end project will end up entirely too huge. We always joke because for a large portion of my childhood, my dad worked relentlessly on building me one of those classic, miniature dollhouses. Unfortunatelly, I think all the detail finally got to him and he never finished it. But now we laugh that he's "making up for it", with rooms for my boys! :3

As of right now I only have one square room built and as it's currently being used as the 'early Christmas gift hideaway', I haven't had much time to actually work on it. But hopefully in the not too far off future I'll get the other three rooms built-I'm just trying to figure out if I want them all square or if I could manage with a circular room x3

    8. I'm working on a dollhouse treehouse right now for my Dollstown size7 boys.
It's coming along, but it's a lot of work and it's HUGE, LOL!

The entertainment center to the left of the first picture is also used as a giant dollhouse!
They are taking over my apartment, LOL!
Here are some progress pictures from earlier today.

    9. My dolls are in a plastic bin under my bed. :( BUT, they don't get any sunlight on them or dust! Major plus, I'm in the process of setting up an area for them that the cats can't get to.

    10. okay, seriously i must say, that tree house is like the single most kickass thing i have ever seen.

    11. My dolls have the entire spare room at the back of my house dedicated to them... Even though they spend majority of their time laying in their boxes.

    12. Dude that treehouse is epic! give yourself a gigantic pat on the back:fangirl:

    13. That tree house rocks! Well hopefully not too much... the boys would fall. I'm in the process of doing rooms for my tinies (will post pics when done) but most of the time they follow me around and sit at my computer desk with me.

    14. That is a really amazing treehouse.

    15. Thank you everyone for the compliments!

I just worked on one of the rooms in the BIG house, which is a giant entertainment center. Here's a couple photos!

What do you mean I spoil my kids!

    16. I had a playhouse as a kid but that treehouse is awesome! My grandfather made it for me, and it was too cool. I had a mini ironing board with real iron that worked, a bunk bed, a table and chairs for tea, and my mom's vintage metal stove and sink. boy was that fun. Wasn't any such thing as a bjd back then. :(

I love, love love building dollhouses. I'm mostly into 1/12 scale- but 1/6 scale has really taken me by storm- and so has 1/3 scale. I am going to try and flip my garage studio into my office/ collection repository with large scale rooms/shelves built into the wall to display my huge, collection of furniture. Dollhouse furniture is my main business- I attend shows as a dealer, etc. and have even designed wingchairs in 1/6 scale- so I have displays right now that display my items in my garage- alongw ith loads of stuff that I don't need and aren't doll related.

Right now I'm working on my southwest bungalow dollhouse and also a miniature garage/convenience store that I'm still collecting items for- an old fashioned gas station1/12 scale. I'm also working on a 1/6 scale diorama for my fashion doll club, since they are interested in how to use minis with their dolls and displays. I am really a doll collector at heart- even though I love, love love to build. My current progress is in http://community.webshots.com/user/barbietown has alot of my stuff int here, including my furniture collection for 1/6 and 1/3 scale dolls.

Alison wonder- did you use 2 x 2's or 2 x 6's for $2-5 apiece from Home Depot to make your treehouse? I see alot of various sizes of planks there- cool use of wood. I would love to show these awesome pics to my husband- he builds my dolly stuff for me. Did yoususpend it from the ceiling to anchor it, with the tree running up through it,, or does it have posts underneatht o support it?? That is so awesome- think what you can do at Christmas!

    17. Helena has her own corner of my room next to my desk. Her bed is between my desk and a bookshelf and next to it is her little dresser with all of her clothes lol She even has a wicker chair on my desk so she can see what I'm doing while I sit there :)

    18. Hi Lisa, I really used what ever I could find, LOL! I did get a couple 2X2 and the side panel was leftover from a friend! It's not finished yet, I still need the lower level, rope/tire swing, ladder, grass, trap door pulley, and all the other goodies a treehouse should have. The tree itself it set in a 5 gallon bucket with lots of plaster, then set on a base with wheels for easy moving and is self standing.
I didn't think of Christmas! Maybe I should make it my Christmas tree this year!

    19. Wow. That treehouse is the best idea ever.... I wish I had kid-dolls now. But I think somehow all my creatures of the night would look a little out of place swinging from rope-ladders...*L* They r srs dolls. :XD:

Someday I want a doll-armoire... the kind that is made to look like an asian dowry-armoire but really is constructed to hold a big-screen tv. I want to build a lovely japanese water-garden type scene into it for my dolls to enjoy when I am not around, complete with mini zen garden and bonsai... put a tiny tea-service in and arrange some zori in there for them to lounge on. Just a nice place for tired resin to relax. hehe. But this all depends on having a space large enough to support yet another peice of furniture. I guess the plan has to wait til we buy our condo in a couple years. *_* For now, Idris is chillin on my DVD bookcase with some of my art, and Sat-chan's head is scorning me from on top of a wooden cricket-cage on my studio desk.
