Disaster! Must evacuate! Will your dolls go with you?

Jun 29, 2008

    1. Well I actually had a close experience to this on Monday. A tree fell just short of our house and was threatening to hit it due to the high winds (this was during Hurricane Gustav) so the fire dept. burst in our home and told us to grab essentials and they would run us to a relative's or a shelter. The first thing I did was pack up my cats and my PukiPuki. She's little, so it wasn't like I had to get a special bag for her, but still I was not about to leave her to the mercy of mother nature.

My pukipuki means a lot to me, just as my animals do. If she were in a burning building, you bet I'd be running in there to get her or grab a fireman to do it.

    2. First things first, friends, family, pets [in my current situation, I'm living at a friend's house]. Everything else can be replaced. Next would likely come important papers, money, my computer, passport, etc... If I could still carry them and it was not an inconvenience, I'd go after the dolls, but chances are I would be unable to.

    3. In the event of a disaster I'd make sure I grabbed my dog and my cat - but I think I would also make the dash to grab Nezi and Hana too. My girls are really dear to me, and since they're never far it wouldn't take much to get them quickly. I wouldn't bother to pack any of their things or wigs - I'd get my girls and get out.
I'd aim to get my computer and papers and such as well - but in all likelihood, since I still live with my parents - my mother would have already gotten the papers for the whole family and my dad would have gotten the dog. My responsibility would be the cat and our necessary electronics (cell phones, etc).

So, in short - yeah, I'd make the effort to get my dolls. :sweat

    4. I'm pretty sure I'd be one of those idiot kids who run back in to their burning house to save quite a few things, actually. I'd probably take some cosplay wigs, my laptop and definitely my doll. xD If I was sitting right by the doll, of course I'd take him.

    5. I've been in three? omg emergency situations since I've had the dolls. All situations were sudden and so created a sense of panic.

The first was a tornado. I was in class and was stuck in the basement of the building for two hours. I was only really fretting over the cat. My husband was there with me so I wasn't worried for him.

The second was another tornado. I threw the cat into the carrier and hurried to my friend's downstairs apartment(it's more secure than the one we were living in). Didn't take the dolls.

The third was a minor earthquake where i live in california now. My first earthquake. I woke up out of a dead sleep, stumbled around to a door frame(we don't have a table or any really solid furniture you could hide under). Again, I was worried about the cat. I couldn't see her anywhere and panicked. Looked out the back of the door and she was just sitting in the living room calmly, staring at me. e_e

If the emergency was something where I was driving and didn't have to react immediately, I'd definitely grab my dolls and my computer(after the obvious food and clothing and bedding). Possibly my sewing machine. I have a big car.

    6. I'd take the doll as long as I could take both it and my pet rat.

If the house was actually burning however I already know that I'd use my scarf tied to the rat carrier to get Stefi out and i'd tie my handbag to that so all the really imortant things (phone, wallet etc) so I figure I might as well add the doll to that because it could be tied to the pet carrier with one of my ribbons.
Unless the fire was at the far end of my room, but then I'd just shove stuff out the door and then try and stop the fire.

    7. Considering the amount of money they cost, not to mention the emotional value, I would definitely grab the doll along with my flute and my drawings as long as it wasn't an immediate emergency (burning house, tornado, etc). With the five people, three vehicles, and 3.5 people who can drive (one only has her permit) in my house, I'm sure we could manage to get the dogs and whatever is most important to us with relative ease.

    8. Since I reside in two places it depends on where I would be :sweat
In my own appartment I would definitely grab my dolls, as well as my computer and some important stuff (like drivers licence)
When I'm with my parents I would first make sure everyone could get out/be safe as well as the dog. And I would probably start saving other things, like my dolls, on the way.

    9. Considering how I'll probably carry my moona and mina tinybear dolls everywhere once they arrive, I don't think I'll have to worry about that!

But if it did come down to it, and I couldn't grab them, I'd save my pets. No doll is worth a life.

    10. Lol I'd be trying to get my hard-drive out XD *Is the sort of person that never backs up anything and has years worth of work on here*

Then I'll emerge from my house with my dolls in one arm, and my HD in the other.
(I don't know how this is physically possible, but it looks cool in my head. Kinda like in Terminator)

I wouldn't even think of rescueing my house mate's dog. Sorry dog lovers, but that creature has mauled me enough times to spare any mercy on it D:<

    11. I also would be concerned with how much time there was. I live on a farm so the first thought would be family and then the horses (cats and dogs are much more replaceable then my horses) my dolls would be next to the laptop (saved forever to get that mac book pro >.<) in importance to get, but it is true that to a degree that they are replaceable.

But they definitely are in my top ten things to take with me if I get to bring stuff with me in an emergency.

    12. Well Hurricane Ike is gonna hit us later on tonight but since it's supposed to be down to category two by landfall and we're inland, we decided to stay. Of course, if it was a category five or something where we did need to evacute, my boys would definately come with. :)

    13. Yeah. We're up in the north of Houston with my sister-but we live close to Kemah, so we evacuated and I took my dolls.

    14. There are so many things in the house that have value to me. Of course, people come first (only my husband and me tho)... but i'm sure i can get hold of the boys as i leave. I would go back for them i'm sure... for them and my computer where i have all my university work. They are the most important things for me.

    15. I'm inland, and hunkered down for Ike. I did put off ordering a new doll till next week, because I didn't want to deal with the recieving of a new doll AND getting stuff together after the storm. but yeah. Nesha and I are ready for anything. We laugh in the face of moisture!

    16. After our pets, I would NEVER leave Kaiden, Hunter, Robin, and Mercy's head.

      Theyre like family.

We have Hurricane Ike coming in later tonight, but I'm personally not too worried about it.
We live too far from the shore to get anything but a bit of wind and rain (Waco)

    17. I would have to echo the general consensus:

If it just hit me, it would be real people first and whatever I could grab on the way out!

If I had time to prepare, I would crate up the most valuable things (ship them out, if possible) and then get out of dodge!

I guess it just pays to plan ahead if you live in a higher risk area.

      Arkhe

    18. I would do everything I can to take them with me (if I had any...) but I would grab my pets first and then my laptop(s), I can go down 8 flights and across the street in less than 5 minutes and I live right by the stairs so I think they would make it out with me and my pets and laptop(s) in the case of a fire, in the case of a hurricane/tornado, they never come near my house anyway so I would stay in my house with them.

    19. ...Hmm. I'm not a potential grown-up yet so my parents would be the ones trying to get everyone into safety, but if the roles were reversed I'd do the same thing.
If I had time before the evacuation I would bring my doll (and other things that I deem are important) but if it was a sudden event and I had only five seconds to grab what I need and gtfo, I wouldn't really consider my doll; my family is more important to me. If my doll got mangled beyond repair because of the sudden event I'd be really sad and angry (sangry?) but it's not like he was limited, I could still save (painsakingly) and buy him again.

    20. So all the Houstonians are thinking the same thing! XD
I live in Fort Bend County so we're on the dirty side of the storm. So far it's been gusty. Luckily I live on high ground so flooding is never a problem. The issue is that in my room, the wall that faces the street is like one big window. I'm sleeping in another room tonight and I already packed my dolls up and moved them to the other end of the house. My mom started laughing when I was carrying them down there and I was like, "DON'T LAUGH! I have 1 grand worth of resin in my hands!!!"

On a funny note...hurricane Ike makes me wish that the next hurricanes were named Marth and Roy. Lol.
