1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Disaster! Must evacuate! Will your dolls go with you?

Jun 29, 2008

    1. I'm new to the BJD world and mine hasn't arrived yet but when he does come and if I were in a position where I had to choose what to bring in a disaster, my animals would come first, no questions asked. My animals are dear to me and they will always come first. :3nodding: Of course if the problem wasn't to dangerous, I would hopefully remember to grab him. :sweat

    2. I'd probably have my hands full trying to grab the Bearded Dragon in a split-second emergency, such as a fire. My husband can fend for himself- if he was unconsious or something, I'd have bigger problems. Dolls probably wouldn't cross my mind.

Here, we don't have natural disasters that we really get advance warning of. In a tornado situation I usually grab my laptop to go into shelter with me, because I'm a bit of a writer and my documents would be a devastating loss to me. Dolls aren't really a consideration, though. The only other thing that happens here is floods (though rarely, due to our semi-hilltop location), and most of those don't damage more than about 12 inches high. I store some doll clothes and accessories that low, but none of my dolls themselves, and if I knew that there was a very high likelihood of flooding and I had to leave, I would store all of them on a high closet shelf.

I definitely see the advantage to including dolls in your home insurance. After all, we pay $300-$2000 (and sometimes more) on most of them, and if you have a medium to large collection then that's a significant investment. People insure other collections, why not dolls?

    3. my doll would be in one arm and my dog would be on the other ... no way I'm leavin my lil boys behind

    4. after todays meet-up craziness. i can finally answer this in all straight honesty.

the very last thing on my mind would be my dolls. or anything like that. any chunk of plastic or fabric is the very least of my concerns. my concerns will be completely directed at the fleshies that i know and care for. or even strangers. as much as i love my dolls and adore them, they will always take a back seat to real people. a doll can be replaced. a person can't.

and every doll in this house is insured. no matter what kind. and at 900+ dolls it pays off. the people are insured too. but you can't use that money to buy the person back. the reaper don't take cash or credit.

    5. Well, I would take my boy. I almost even got a plastic box out to put Kano in as Hurricane Ike came closer. We stayed safe though and didn't have to leave, but while the storm was passing through, I had him next to me almost always.

    6. Well the dog would be first priority, but I'm sure someone else in the house would take care of him before I even moved a step. The rest of my family can get out the house themselves so it's fine.

I definitely would grab Kae. He's almost always in the same room as me anyway, and in a place where he's easy to take. A bit off topic, but i'd also grab my ipod. not because i'm one of those *MUSIC IS MY LIFEEE AND I'D DIE WITHOUT IT* people (-.-") but because I back up my important files on it xD

    7. Depends who the pepople in the disaster areas are (family, dearest friends... Klaha or Mana XD...), otherwise it's me and my doll. I'd say my old PC hardrive, but it has passed away :(

    8. i think i would bring them with me. or at least i wuld try. because i'm not a logical person, and in my importance list, my dolls comes before my clothes and cellphone (i actually got a third hand one who is like 10 years old to have more money for my dolls.) so i'd try to save them. of course, if the choice was between my dolls and, say, my little sister, i would let them burn and save her.

    9. I stayed for Ike, worried about my dolls a bit, but utimately gathered most of them on the same high counter where they normally stay and kept my two new ones with me in the inner room where I was sleeping. :)
We survived, though! Here's Emily in Klaus' slicker. ;) If only she had those cute wellies by d.ark!

    10. Well, I started this thread some time ago....
I evacuated for Ike and, yes, the gents came with me ^_^ of course so did the cats, dogs, and laptop.

    11. In my case, the three collections of things I value most are 1. my birds, 2. my computers, 3. my dolls.

My birds are both tame, and I have had to reach in in an emergency before and put them in the emergency carrier. I have a nasty scar to show for it, but it was better than literally freezing to death (in the dead of December, when the temperature outside was in the 10F-20F, we lost power for 8 days. And we lived in a big city, too. Seattle-area people, remember the windstorm?)

      2. My computers contain everything I have ever written since I was 12 years old. I'm almost 21 now, so you can see how that's a lot. I back up to an external drive frequently, so I'd probably grab those before I went for the actual laptop/tower.

      3. My dolls are all special to me. My MSD I bought in the Volks Akihabara showroom on my trip, and thus holds a lot of sentimental value. My other boys are hybrids and molds that aren't made anymore, so they'd be difficult to replace. My MSD at least fits in my purse, which is always by the front door, so I could stash him quickly, but the SD boys might not make it out with me. I'd be sad, but hey. As much as I love them, they aren't worth my life.

EDIT: I should probably add that my apartment is really tiny, so both birds, computers, and dolls are all on the way to the door anyway, so they'd be pretty easy to grab as I ran for it. XD

    12. Well, me and the boys stayed for Ike and I'm happy to report that there were no casulties, human or dollie. Of course, we've been without power for a week and still have none (I'm at a friend's house right now.) so I haven't been able to check DOA for awhile.

    13. If any disaster happened, I would grab my dolls. My mom would grab me a my sister, and our dog follows us wherever we go. If the disaster was so severe and we needed money REALLY badly, I would sell them so we could stay someplace.

    14. Much as I'd love to say yes, I suspect I'd be more occupied with making sure the kids and cats and spouse were out of the house than with worrying about the dolls. And before the dolls I'd have to grab the animation art collection, because it is utterly irreplaceable.

And then I'd cry bathtubsfull of tears for not being able to rescue my resin buddies. But frankly, what is impossible to replace has to come first.

    15. *giggle* and even though this post is several months old I just had to respond to it because it's spot on.

We had an electrical fire once, in an old house, when it was pouring buckets and the rain got into the old-style fuse box outside. Absolutely slagged the electrical system in our house; we were lucky to not lose everything.

I ran around and collected the cats and then dashed outside with my car keys and the TV remote.
      *_*

I know why I had the car keys but... I guess, if there'd been a channel-changing emergency, I'd have been fully prepared! :doh

So yeah. Nice to think I'd grab the cel books but in truth it would most likely be "get yer butts out the door before they BURN!" ;)

    16. 1. Family
      2. Pets
      3. Laptop
      4. Doll

Family and pets are obvious lol...my laptop has proof of my education (as a graphic artist), without it I'd be nothing, and have no livelihood, then the doll. Though he is near and dear to my heart, he's not limited or anything, so I could easily get another one. But luckily one of my pets is right near the dolls (my fishie :D) so I could kill 2 birds with one stone on that one so to speak.

    17. Well, the time it takes to "run around the house collecting valuables", for some of us, is lightning-fast-- because we only have 2 rooms to worry about! XD Apartment living: your valuables are already pretty focused, so you can grab-and-go! All you folks with big beautiful houses & tons of storage-space and whole separate rooms for your dolls... aah, a disaster is the only situation where I wouldn't want one.

Still: 2 rooms or 20, when that next 7.9-Richter-Scale baby comes shakin' around here, it'll all depend on whether my building falls down with me IN it, before I can so much as grab my wallet. All those emergency-drills & preparedness-kits are for shite if your living-room has just fallen into a crack in the earth while you were still sitting on the couch! You just never know...

    18. Cat first, then computer, then dolls. But yes, I'd make the effort.

And yea, I live in one room. Not like it would take any time at all... I think the hard part would be securing the kitty.

    19. I would definitely have my hands full in the event of a disaster. I have twelve rescued African Pygmy hedgehogs, four hamsters, a rat, a Cocker Spaniel and a goldfish. They would all come first. Then I would worry about my dolls who are kept in rolling carts in their boxes. If I could get to a window I would get them out and, of course, they can all fit in my vehicle. I made sure there was enough room for animals and treasures.:)

    20. My dog and laptop would come first, then my dolls. :sweat My dog is well, my dog (she would panic, so i'd have to carry her). And my laptop is for school (which is kind of important, apparently). But my dolls would be next.

I live in a 3 bedroom apartment, so i probably wouldn't have a hard time grabbing my valuables and getting out. :)
