Disaster! Must evacuate! Will your dolls go with you?

Jun 29, 2008

    1. heh well like photographer and his camera, I have the habit of taking my sketch book where ever i go. Without even thinking about it. I'm not sure If I'd ever do that with my doll. but it's a possibility.

      in the event of a disaster though I think I make sure my priorities came first, family, safety, my cat maybe. but like I said before sometimes I just grab the things important to me without thinking. last week, we had a fire drill as school and I grab my sketch book without knowing till I got out @_@; :doh :sweat

    2. It depend on what kind of situation it is. If I got time, of couse I'll grab all of my BJDs. If not, Mom, Dad, and my dogs (Dasha and Nana), and credit cards, etc.... I guess, after that, I'll have time to think abou the dolls. Even though I love them, but ,yea, they are not alive, and to be actural, they are dolls.

    3. Well since I have no one to worry about except myself, I'll grab my doll along with my purse and external harddrive and photo album XD My doll was hard to get, so if I lost it, it'd be awful :(

    4. Immediate danger (e.g. fire): My husband, roommates(and they can get their cats), my bird and fish, then my dolls.
      Approaching threat (e.g. hurricane): Husband, bird and fish, heirlooms, dolls, and expensive items.
      (My roommates can take pretty good care of themselves.)

    5. Well I know for a fact my boyfriend would be straight into the living room to get his musical equipment so I wouldn't be worrying about him. Every hobbyist for themselves in our house. For me personally probably computer first as that has draft copies of my novels and loads of work and then dolls, and then shoes :)

    6. It depends. If I'm evacuating from a hurricane, then yes, because I'd probably have time to think about what I want to take, but if my house were to catch on fire, the only thing on my mind would probably be my mother, though if I had a little time, I'd get my mother, wallet, camera, then doll.

    7. I know the game changes when stuff actually happens. But my mind doesn't seem to work like most peoples. I skip panic and go straight to denial.
      After guranteeing that YES the house is in flames, I'd likely yank my laptop from it's moorings, pick Sera up and head for the front door. As I'm on the second level, and the front door is five steps away from the bottom of the stairs, I'd drop those outside, and make sure everyone is safe, then snag them the second time out to carry them to safty.

      I doubt we'd ever get flooded, as we're up on a hill (built the house here to avoid the flooding) and PA doesn't really get any serious weather that I've noticed (but we do have 60 year old coal-mine fires!)

    8. I think they would come in third when I finally have them here with me. It would be, family, cats then dolls and laptop. If I knew something bad was going to happen, like a storm and/or a flood , I would pack them before we have to go. If it was a fire I would get the cats after giving the dolls to my mom since I would want to try and get them out so we arent out the money.

    9. We don't get any major natural disasters here in Singapore. So I guess fire's the only threat.

      If I had to run, I'd grab my QE2 memorabilia stash, my laptop, external hard drives and my doll. And my wallet. The rest, I can build up my life again. I know it sounds very weird to be concerned over random memorabilia but those stuff are irreplaceable, and they mean the world to me.

    10. Well when my house almost caught fire I grabbed my kittens, then I grabbed my dolls, then my computer...

      I think that's all I really need to say to answer this question.

    11. i think about this alot. i would go for my cat first (assuming that my roomated were fine and concience) knowing them they would ran and grab my doll

      im currently actually looking into renters insurence. to cover my dollies ^_^

    12. I live in the chicago area so the only major disaster we would have is either a tornado, or a fire.

      In either instances, I probably wouldn't grab the doll. I would spend too much time getting my bird out of his cage and into the portable one... but I dont want to even think about that, it scares me. Now, if it were a tornado warning and we had time, I'd probably grab it and a few other things, but if we acutally got hit with a tornado and lost our house but were saved in the basement, I'd end up selling it anyway.

    13. If I was absolutely certain that all the live inhabitants in my home were safely esacaping (ie: family, cats), I would save my dolls. They're the most precious things I own, so if I could grab anything, it would be them.

    14. I think i already posted here...but I can't find it and I am not sure if my answer would be the same anyway lol. As of this point in my life, I would only risk saving my family and my pets. I have asthma and could very well die by staying in smoke long enough to save my dolls. The only thing I would risk my life for is the lives of my family members and pets (and friends if they were in the house too). I love my dollies, but I have good insurance and I can replace them. Even if I couldn't, my life (or any living creatures) is not worth an inanimate object. So, yeah, there is just no way I risk it ^_^ As for other disasters, I just be too worried about other things to even think about it...though a flood I could see trying to rescue them as we usually have several hours notice at least if not days notice (I live by the Mississippi). Now a flash flood, no way. I just wouldn't think about it I be to worried about living things.

    15. I'm the kid who always insists on picking up her laptop and books before calmly walking out--towards the front of the line--at fire drills. I've gotten pretty good a evacuating with things. Therefore, in most situations, I think I would indeed bring my dolls (as well as laptop and favorite books X3)
      If it were immediate, like fire-right-outside-my-door however, I'd be torn. I do not know, if I had a matter of seconds, if I would dive for the laptop or the doll before jumping out the window.

    16. I would grab Pikachu, my cat, Kumagoro, Ryuichi-doll and miniRyu. They're usually pretty close to each other, so I could just grab them all in one armfull! Knowing Pika-oni, she would fight me and run out away from the fire,so she'd be safe. She's a really intelligent cat, the only one I know of that does tricks.

      So I know that all five of us would make it out safely.

      I'd also grab Beloved, my laptop as well, he has all of my fanfics I'm writing on him! >_<;

      Ryuichi

    17. If they where close by I would grab them but if I needed my arms to hold my cat, like if it was a fire an not a tornado warning, then the cat comes first. My dolls are idols of my gods so they are avatars for them so to speak. If the doll is destroyed I can replace it and everything would be as it was.

    18. If there was some warning beforehand, then yes, I would most likely pack my BJDs after other necessities like clothes and whatnot. In an immediate emergency, however, people would be my first priority. I don't own any pets, but I'll probably throw my laptop into my bag and bolt out with that since I'm always near my computer anyway :sweat I don't know if I'll remember my BJDs, honestly, since everyone tends to work on a "fight-or-flight" response in sudden, unexpected emergencies and dolls are, after all, just that (expensive as they are...o_o)

      -M

    19. Uh. I'm the youngest, so chances are, I'll get whisked out before I even get a chance to save my dollies. But uh, if my dolls were in the room with me, they'd make it out for sure. And I know that as soon as the front door gets open, my cat's will run out on their own ^^;

    20. If there's time to plan, of course they will. I don't have insurance on them ^ ^;

      If there's no time to plan, then if I've got time enough to think about them and still get out then maybe. Feline O'Mine comes first, though I'm sure I come second when it's time to make a run for it :XD:
