Disaster! Must evacuate! Will your dolls go with you?

Jun 29, 2008

    1. in case of fire, I'd just throw them out the window.:mwahaha
in other words, I wouldn't be all "Oh! My babies!", but I'd try to get them out if I could.
As for leaving the house behind.. if I'd have time/space to pack something equally important, like my laptop, of course I'd take the dolls too.
But in a more of a "wake your loved ones, take what you need to survive and run!" -situation, I think there'd be far too many things higher in priority for me to even consider the dolls.:(

    2. After all living things were safe (lol) My highest "must save" priority would probably be important documents sadly enough..(passport, bank info, insurance stuff, etc) and then it'd be my flute (which would be almost impossible to replace)
Luckily for me, my dolls (and the case) are right next to the front door (my house is super tiny so it takes maybe 5 seconds to walk through the entire house..honestly) so it'd be easy to grab and go. I doubt they'd all make it out though.. thats what the renters insurance is for! (well that and my bass and all sorts of other things)

    3. Haha well a situation like this kinda has happened to me. In the basement of my building there was an electrical fire. This building is a high rise that at the time wasn't full yet so my mom (who was the only one home with me at the time) didn't know whether the alarm was real or fake (since maintenance had set it off earlier in the week). However, we decided to evacuate anyway just to be safe.

I was on my laptop at the time so I grabbed that and while my mom was running around trying to decide whether the alarm was real or not I grabbed the 2 dolls I had with me at the time. This all happened pretty quickly, although later my mom did scold me for grabbing material things and not stuff like family pictures :/ The fire thankfully was contained to the basement.

    4. I would definately try to get them all with me.
I would get some plastic bags (I have a lot of them) and just put them into the bags and take them with me.

    5. Weirdly, before I received my girl, I would have said, "No way! Get everything else important first!" and I still probably would--pets and sibling are definitely higher on my list than my doll, but since I've had her for a couple of days she's jumped on my list of priorities by quite a bit. XD

It's interesting, the way we bond with our little resin kidlets... I think, since they sort of become an extension of ourselves, it would be very sad to lose one, particularly in such a chaotic way.

    6. Yes, I would bring my them. But people and animals come first. I would snatch my dollies (Dion, Cian, Amber, and Glot especially) after I new that the living things were safe.

    7. Hm... It really comes down to whether I can get my dogs out. If they are safe and out then definitely. I was watching deep impact and thinking about what I would take into a bomb shelter and Vincent was high on my list. I think I could take him apart and get him packed up fairly quickly so yes... i am a little nutty...

    8. I would so totally take my Kirill!

    9. Getting my bird from his big cage to his carrier would be top on my list... and doing that is no easy task. My dolls don't have a proper carrier... at most I'd probably be able to grab one, which would probably be Arlian since he cost the most.
Unless we had a three-day warning or something. Then I'd have the time to cram them all into a bag. :XD:

    10. I've been evacuated because of hurricanes before. We took the dog with us and my bird and guineapig went up in the closet so they'd be out of harms way if the house flooded or the windows broke. We couldn't bring them with us. In that situation, I would bring my doll. He wouldn't take up a lot of room and it would be comforting having him there. If it was a quick, get out of the house now emergency, unless he was right at hand I would have to leave him behind. It would be hard enough getting my other pets out. I'd be hard pressed to grab the guineapig cage and my cat (those are my only pets at the moment) and get out. It would kill me if I had to leave any living thing behind in a fire or something like that. But if he was right next to me, I would probably toss him on top of the guineapig cage or stuff hin in the front of my pants quickly, so I wouldn't have to hold him. Only if I could get my cat right away, though.

If it was someone else's doll, I would grab it if I possibly could, but if I couldn't I would hope they'd understand that it was a life or death situation and there was nothing I could do. I might try to reemburse them for it, if I could.

    11. *~~after all living occupants and important documents were safe~~*
I'd probably try to save them all, if I could.
      IF I could only save ONE, It ould probably be my Volks Manabu, simply because he was a Limited, so I wouldn't be able to replace him easily. My others are standard editions, so I'd just order new ones and try to replicate them ^^;;

If it was a fire, I'd probably punch out the mesh screen on my window and just start tossing them onto the lawn :X

A tornado... Meh, the basement is the safest place and a tornado gives enough warning to scoop up all the valuables and heirlooms. The dolls are usually in my sewing room down there, anyway. Plus, I'm in a large city, and tornadoes usually bounce off the larger buildings.

A flood or earthquake... due to my geographical location, it would probably be a sign of the apocalypse or sudden, severe continental shift, and in that case nothing would help :<
      (lol)

    12. we have a fire escape plan. cj (husband) is in charge of getting the puppy and the hamster out and i'm in charge of belongings. someone i know suffered a huge loss because of a house fire so i've taken the precaution to pack an "overnight" bag (under the bed) which includes a change of clothes (old art clothes), jammies, undies, etc and plenty of wiggle room to throw whatever else i can't live without. it's my belief that when it actually happens is when your insticts to save what's most important kicks in... i'm sure that i'd try to save my favorite doll though...

    13. Hell yes,
dolls come with me, burned CD's, money, probably my Hard drive, anything else i could possibly throw out the window.

    14. Short answer: yes (most likely xD). Long answer:

I've had a flood in my area before. But, this was long before I even knew BJDs existed, owned my wii and DS or even had a laptop. (In short, I was in 6th grade and now in college lol). Back then, it was only me, my mom, and the cat. So, we didn't really have much to worry about. We moved what we could upstairs, I put the cat in his carrier, and we high tailed it out of there.

But now, I have a lot of things that (though most people would not find important) I would hate to live without. I live at school most of the time (right by the emergency exit) so, I think that if there really was a bad fire, I'd grab my babies and toss 'em into the first thing I could find. I'd grab my laptop, Wii, and DS.

If I'm at home, my priorities are a little different. First, I would grab the cat (my mom would get the dog). Then, I'd probably just grab my dolls and DS because they are easily tossed into a bag.

As a side note, we had a "fire drill" in my dorm once and I grabbed my only doll at the time...forgot my phone...and my jacket...:sweat

    15. I live alone, so that would leave me with more time to gather personal belongings, since I'm the only one I'd have to watch over.

Still, I would assess how dangerous the situation was, and act accordingly. If the building was on fire and a beam could fall on my head any moment, I wouldn't risk my life to save my dolls, no.

But if it was something a little more impending, such as a hurricane, my dolls would be the first belongings I would gather. They're just two, so I don't think it wouldn't be a major difficulty. ^^

    16. If at all possible, yes. Obviously, lives are more important, so pets and people come first. But I would be very unhappy with the prospect of losing any doll. From an emotional standpoint, I'd be devastated. From a financial standpoint, I'd be very reluctant to leave behind anything that I paid $400 for, and even more when it came to something like an LE.

Insurance is most definitely something I'd appreciate at that point. If I had to leave any doll behind, I'd at least want a way to get them back.

The danger would come into play, too. A hurricane would give me time, but if it's a huge fire and I might die, then I have to come first. If I had time, I'd try to grab the ones I was most attached to, but I wouldn't risk my life to save a doll.

    17. oh boy o_o umm

well the first things I'd think of is waking my mom cause she's usually dead asleep regardless of the fire alarm or whatever. (because of all the constant false alarms. or harmless kitchen accidents in other apartments. )

I know the first things in my mind besides that though, would be getting my bird and my cat out, grab my DS and games plus recharger, my doll, maybe a books or two of mine, then some of my plushies.

Then theres a handful of other things I could think of if it was a evacuation because of a tornato or severe storm, flood or something, where you have a little more time.

Things like my diary with all my online account passwords, cause I know I wouldn't remember right away. Lol.
Some of my most loved dvds, my cds, and other smaller more meaningful and treasured items.

Thats all kinda in order as well, I'm feelings as to what I'd think was most importent or would come first to mind.

but since this is about our dolls, ya you can see where my poor devarend would fall under lol but its for the best.

    18. Well my parents can take care of themselves so they could get out if there was a fire or anything. My mother would grab my fat bunny, my sister would grab our budgies, and I would grab the fat cat, my laptop, my laptop recharger, my blanket (XDD), and just stuff my two dolls in a suitcase or a bag.
I think that having their face-ups damaged is better then not having them at all.
      Ive only been in a critical situation once in my life when I was 8 and I got caught up in a huge hurricane that was right outside my house. I remember looking out the window and seeing this huge black swirling thing like 10 feet away from the basement window. XD Thank god I didn't have any dolls back then. ^.^;;

    19. I live alone and have no pets and only one doll, so if it was a fire emergency and I could safely do so, I'd probably grab him, my laptop and phone, and my purse. Most of my other expensive possessions are either too big or would take too much time to get out, but he's right by my bedroom door so unless I was jumping out the window I'd have to pass him to get out anyway. If it was the sort of thing where there was an hours notice or something, he'd be on the list of things to pack.

    20. hmmmmm...if anything happened... I'd HAVE to help evacuate my 'lil kitty, Beanie first more than anything! Since my doll is the most expensive thing in my possession I'd definitely take it along but I wouldn't be too devastated over losing it since I could get the same model, accessories, and supplies. I would, however, be very devastated over the amount of money I lost that went to its care.
