Disaster! Must evacuate! Will your dolls go with you?

Jun 29, 2008

    1. I would grab my dolls; they usually are in their traveling duffel bag my best friend, Orca, made me for my birthday. It would be easy to grab them. Their things, however, not so much, so if I were running out of time, I'd grab and go. If it was a hurricane evacuation, I'd take time to their clothes with them, but I'd make sure I had plenty of room for MY clothing as well.

Since I don't have any pets, and my room mates are all fit and fine to move on their own accord, I'd grab my dolls in an emergency.

    2. I've evacuated from several hurricanes with my family, and each time I brought my dolls with me. That's the one good thing about having hurricanes as opposed to other natural disasters: you have several days of warning.

In the case of something immediate, like a fire, tornado, or flash flood I would probably dump my dolls in a box (luckly they are all lined up in their own shelf) and run. My dog is very intelligent, and a quick yell would send him out of the house. It's not like I would have to carry him out. Plus, my house is only one story and every room has an "emergency window" that can pop completely out for easy escape, or, in the case of a tornado, there are closests in ever room AND hallway. My house is awesome for escaping disasters.

My parents have a small fire/flood proof safe for documents. I may think of investing in one that's big enough for dolls so that if the time ever came and I had too many to get or not enough time I could just shove them in there.

    3. Like many others before me have said, it really depends on what sort of disaster and how much time we had. I don't have many possessions as for the most part I'm not very fond of material things, so packing wouldn't take me but a second.

But if it were a flood/hurricane/tornado sort of disaster where I had some prior notice I'd stuff some clothes, my camera (Few thousand dollar camera - the most expensive thing I own to date) and my doll(s) in a bag, then go grab my two small dogs.

If it were a fire that was already a big blaze and was halfway through the house by the time it was noticed or something I'd just throw on some shoes, grab a jacket and my dogs. Any clothes, dolls or other important items would be left behind because they can be replaced someday, even if years and years later - lives cannot.

    4. When another unit on my apartment floor lit on fire at 2 in the morning, in the middle of a fricking Canadian winter, I didn't even have the presence of mind to put on socks before dashing for the stairs. I love my computer, all my external hard-drives, and my wallet. I have lots of books, art supplies, and a small toy collection that are alll pretty flammable. But when you are possibly running for your life...

And once downstairs, I was so busy shivering, gawking at the fire that climbed up a floor through the window, and chatting with the neighbors, who are also in their sleepwear, holding their kids and pets, to even remember that all my things are still inside.

    5. I would really hate to lose Oli, but I would only grab her if it wouldn't hinder the escape of my family and pets. then of course important documents. hopefully some of my most beloved artwork as that can Never be duplicated. but if I had to choose.... I might take Oli even over some of my work. I'm that fond of her. she was the best birthday gift I Ever recieved. I'd hate to lose her

    6. Out of all the things I have, my stuffed animals and doll are the first material things that I would take.

I can say this from experience. A few years ago, I had to quickly move one day. It was not due to a disaster (fire, weather), but nonetheless it was a bit of a scary experience for me. The things I packed first were my most precious stuffed animals (no dolls at the time), favourite books, my laptop, and some clothes.

Stuffed animals/dolls can be a great comfort in times like this.

    7. My 2 dogs first. But since i only have one boy it wouldn't be that hard to rip off his face and cram it in my pocket so i could throw the body over my shoulder if need be :sweat I wouldnt care as much about his clothes or wig if it came flying off, you can buy them back..

    8. I am just a teenager so my parent's would be the ones worrying about me getting out. But yeah I'd probably grab my dolls and shove them in a bag with some other important stuff.

    9. Left no dolls behind.........

    10. My first priority would be my cat Bella, once I made sure she was going to be safe I would grab Seung, I would be devastated if I lost him, but Bella is more important to me. During the last tornado warning though I had her in the hallway with me in her carrier and Seung in my arms lol

    11. When my fiance and I get a place, I intend to get itemized insurance on my dollies. SOOooo, if something horrible were to occure and I couldn't make the split decison between life, dolls, and te Wii... well... I would have them covered and I could just try again from scratch... though, that would be very sad.

I would do my best to do a quick rescue.

    12. Hmm.. I'd leave all the doors open so my cat could get out, considering he just lies around in the middle of he floor anyway. He usually doesn't hide. I'd make sure my parents were alright and able to get what they needed, then grab my laptop, doll, and a few sets of clothes if time/situation permitted.

The cat thing..if he's scared he' bite the &^@$ outta me. o_o I wouldn't be ABLE to carry him if I wanted to.

Like I said, it really depends WHAT was happening and what I could get to.

    13. I would try to take my dolls, but as long as I'm in this wheelchair in an immediate emergency, where am I gonna go, lol. I can't go to the basement, or evacuate fast. Last year we had such bad wind , like a mini tornado, went on for hours. Stuff was being hurled against the house, and since my daughters were at school, I was stuck here and so were my dolls. I'm grateful we survived.

    14. Yeeeeeeeees!!!!!!!

    15. I no longer keep pets (we aren't allowed in this building) and computers only contain replaceable information.... so yeah, first thing I would grab is Mikos (and by extension Ed, who is always with Mikos) and then anyone else I could get my hands on fast.

However, if it came down to me or them... sorry little resin dudes, but I'm outta here!

    16. After the cats which i'd hurl out of my window if they weren't already outside (since that's where they stay), I guess I'd throw the resin out the window since they're relatively close to the window as well.

I stay in a one story house so the dolls and I might get a few scratches from being in the bushes, but that's about it. XD

However if it was a situation in which the roof was about to cave or something, Well, I'd be in the market for a lot of resin x.x"

    17. It depends on how bad the fire is. My cat comes first, then dolls xD

    18. I might invest in a big metal trunk that I can just chuck my dolls into and then book it out of the house if it were on fire or something. If it's something I have more time to prepare for, I'd take my dolls before I'd take my clothes if I had to.

    19. In this order: icons, passports, dolls. ;)

    20. <<Disaster! Must evacuate! Will your dolls go with you?>>

I'd probably take Sard, Chrom and Sphaler in toto, but I'd take just the heads from everyone else. (:sweat Yeesh, that sounds bad...) My reasoning? The SOOM monthlies have specialized body parts that were limited and are no longer available. Everyone else has a body that I could (theoretically) buy again with relative ease. And assuming I have limited space available wherever I'm going, a large box of doll heads would take up considerably less room than ten or eleven 70cm dolls. LOL
