Disaster! Must evacuate! Will your dolls go with you?

Jun 29, 2008

    1. Well I just suffered a real distaster with my apartment building being burnt down. I only had time to save 3 rats and a cat. No dolls.

    2. YES!! i probably would'nt take their clothes wig and sutff but i'd try to bring most of my dolls D:
i always have 1-2 dolls in the same room as me so its not really a problem, i just grab them...

    3. If it was an evacuation, I'd probably take my doll with me. If its a tornado I'd lock him in a drawer and hope for the best. I'd be more worried about my cat and dogs in that case, and the only things I would try to take would have to do with my stories. Things I couldn't just rewrite...

    4. If I had the time to do so then yes, I would. Obviously human beings and pets would come first, but with sufficient time to take some treasured belongings I'd certainly want to bring something like a doll. My laptop (or at least my back-up drive) would probably come slightly higher, but dolls are definitely high priority.

    5. Order of Priority:
      1. The Living
      2. The Resinators
      3. A Cheese Sandwich and some tea?

    6. I have always lived in a hurricane prone area - either in Florida or the coast of SC - since recollecting my childhood again - I always have a group of my favorite dolls in a certain spot in my home where I can grab them quick for any emergencies. During one particular hurricane in SC - all my dolls went into plastic tubs until we were safe again.

    7. Heck, yes! I'd grab my laptop, doll, camera, and get the heck out. But I would be so sad to leave behind my artwork, costumes, and lolita clothes. x.x *has too many expensive hobbies*

    8. @SKooKuM Hime: I'm so sorry to hear about your apartment (and probable pet loss)!

Having been evacuated due to fires a few times in my life, I know my priorities and come fire season I leave a bag near my bedroom door with the important things: papers, family pictures, scriptures, and clothes. Last time, I unhooked my computer and carried the tower out with me, as we had time and space. I didn't have any dolls or pets (allergies), and my roommates were with me gathering their things. If fire season comes again, I'll have my dolls in their case right next to my emergency bag, as besides my car, papers, and computer they are the most valuable thing I own.

I live a bit away from my family, so rarely when I am in fire danger are they also in danger. Last time the fire blocked my ability to get to them (and they to me), so cell phones are a blessing.

But yes, I would so take my dolls, provided the living were good. If I had a family member or a roommate in peril, forget them. They are possessions. You cannot replace the living.

    9. I live in Texas near the coast and we get enough Hurricanes. When there is chance for bad weather I put some of my dolls where I can get to them easily, along with my lap top and wallet.

SKooKuM Hime, I'm glad you could save your rats and cat!

    10. Sadly my resin tribe would be left behind in favor of many more important things, like my daughter, my husband, important documents, sewing machines and dress forms, computers. As much as I love my dolls, they are just toys compared to my family and the critical implements of my profession.

    11. I live in a small apartment on the second floor and only have one doll so far, so it would be easy to save her. :3 If I had to get out REAL quick cuz of fire, I could pop my indoor cat in my backpack (which already has other important things in it like art supplies, hard drive, passport, daily necessities..) drop the other cat on the grass out the window, grab the doll, and I'd pretty much have everything valuable except my computer and a few larger art supplies. (too big if I have to go quickly..)

      Obesekittens... 1. great name, and 2. yeah, if it's a friend's doll or something I'd probably feel more protective than of my own doll. I'd probably go all Mario, as in feel like I have to save the princess or something. XD;;

edit: Meldandy: OH YEAH SEWING MACHINE, I forgot about that.;;; That would be part of the second trip, if there was time for one.

(...no disasters really happen here, so a fire would be the only one I might realistically have to deal with. Besides a snow-in, which is the total opposite of an evac. situation, lol.)

    12. If I had to choose between pets or dolls... Sorry resin kids, the chihuahuas come way first!

If I had the time to think about packing stuff, my dolls would be a the top of the list after clothing, next to my other expensive hobby, videogames, and of course paperwork and such.

    13. Where I live we only have to worry about Tornadoes and fires. So I'd probably be in a big rush. I'd make sure my parent's were awake and grab my dog first. But then probably grab Chrom's head. He is the only one that wouldn't be easily replaceable. And then I'd sit outside (or basement) holding my squirming dog and cry for the rest of my dolls and fish. :...(

    14. Me too. Last time we evacuated (Rita) we lived ON the lake. We moved our valuables the night before the evac. to a friend's home inland. Then, we drove to San Antonio.
My dolls were among my valuables at the friends' home. All we took in the car were a few photo albums and changes of clothing and foodstuffs.

At least with hurricanes you can usually plan ahead!

    15. Frankie Cat, during Ike, I think it was, I went to Dallas to stay with my uncle and I took one of my dolls.. the other stayed in a bag all wrapped um in my closet.

I forgot about other people's dolls!
I have someone elses doll right now and he would certainly be priority one... after living things. He would be saved before my laptop.

    16. I have two cats... As much as it hurts me to think that, I'm afraid I wouldn't have a spare hand to grab even one doll :(

    17. My order exactly! XD

No matter what the emergency, my cat comes first..Providing all the humans are safe and sound...Even then I'd spare time to save my cat and lizard...England isn't exactly disaster country, but I often worry about fires..Been debating insuring the resin dudes actually. As unloving as it sounds, resin people can be bought again.

Of course, if I were given the oppurtinity to save some dolls I would, but seeing as there's over 20 in the house between a friend and I, it seems unlikely they'd all be saved.

    18. If say there was a house fire and I woke up and HAD to get out quickly, then no. My priority would be my family. I do however cuddle my cuddly iguana who's my most important possession in case something like that happens hahaha.

    19. If it was a kind of emergency situation, my priority would be my family (include all of my cats) and then my dolls. But I hope nothing like this will ever happen to us and I won't be forced to make a choice:?

    20. Frankly, I probably wouldn't have time to think to grab Aurora, but if I did (and all pets excluding fish + people are secure), then I would definitely take her. She'd probably be silently screaming at me the entire time xD Can't take mah fish with me; I'd have to euthanize (sp?) them gently (cuz if it's a fire, that would SUCK to be boiled to death!) True - resin people can be bought once again!
