Disaster! Must evacuate! Will your dolls go with you?

Jun 29, 2008

    1. In an evacuation, with time to pack and plan, the dolls would deffinately come. To much time and effort and money put into them. They're higher on my list than my laptop currently, but then so are my rp books >.> I have weird priorities.

However, in the case of a instant action, like a fire, it would likely be that we'd grab the cats and, if we had the extra breath of time, the dolls. But the living come first. Dolls can be replaced, lives cant.

    2. I would leave my dolls in a heartbeat if it meant that something more important (even remotely more important) wouldn't be able to make it. Just in terms of material things, my Mac, iPod, iHome, my childhood dolls, and most of my books come first. I feel like my bjds could always be replaced, and the weight of them would certainly cause some problems if I was trying to rescue anything else. Call me cold hearted, but I'd be furious with myself if I actually thought I'd sacrifice something I actually needed for a doll I've only had for a year.

    3. YES I would totally take my doll!!!!!!
ESPECIALLY if it was a fire, because, resin + flames = toxic

I wouldn't take him if there were more important things, though, like trying to help someone/something that is alive....

    4. I would work to save my family first, I'd rather loose my doll then my beloved family. I would try and save Lily, but if I could not I'd try and put her someplace safe until I could come back for her.

    5. If a disaster happened, I would grab my pictures and dolls first. I could never replace either of them D:

    6. I probably wouldn't take my dolls :(
My priority would be to save my family and my many pets :aheartbea
If I could, I might bring a couple of my pullips and Bubu Odoroki:)

    7. I've been thinking about this, since my gran's house burned down.. and if possible I'd take them (and my laptop :sweat).. if not.. well.. I do falue my own live more than my dolls.. though I'd be really sad if something happened to them.. :(

    8. It would depend on the situation. If it was a fire, or a flash flood... Family comes first, then myself, then my pets... then my meds and then my doll. My father was a firefighter for five years, and then a paramedic for fifteen. He's had to sit there, helpless, listening to people scream as they burn to death.

He's had to take away the burn victims... Knowing that a lot of them would wish they had just died. The one time I really smelt burning human flesh... I couldn't eat any meat for weeks, and kept washing my hair constantly because I could still smell it.

      Some things come first.

However if I was evacuating because of a storm, or an incoming disaster... my doll would be with me. No question. I'd have nothing but a backpack and my dolls carrying case. The backpack would have some papers, a photo or two, and one or two special books... Those are the only things besides the utter "essentials" that would come.

I'd even leave my fish behind. I'd cry for him... but... I would bring my doll, but not my fish.

    9. Well I'm sure everyone agrees that family and pets come first. I would try and save photos but seeing how many of them are online it's kind of a failsafe. I would try and take all my dolls and plush animals and my pc. things that i spent a lot of money on or that i bought for myself. :)

    10. A few months ago the compressor in my refrigerator started to burn. The hallway outside my room was getting very smokey so I had to call the fire department. At that time, I didn't realized where the smoke was coming from so they told me to leave my house. it was very weird because I have often thought about what to bring if I had to leave in a hurry. I got my dogs and cats out, but did not think to take my dolls. They were fine when I went back in to see them, but I thought about how sad I would have been if they had been lost to a fire. A fire never started that night, but it really does make you think about it.

    11. Obviously as everyone has pointed out, living things come first...so, after tending to that, I might try to manage a couple if circumstances permit. Even if they are things, they are things of hope and happiness for me, and I don't see the harm in having a something to provide a sense of comfort nearby in times of such turmoil. Granted, it is easy to say that now; in a real situation of danger I'm not sure what would actually happen.

    12. The cat and my family come first, of course... but even so, I don't think Narael would be something I would desperately save. Right now she's just a factory faceup Bobobie Charisma demon. I haven't done the customization I'd like to do to her yet, so I'm not super attached to her yet.

I hate to sound heartless, but my memory cards for my video games, my computer, and my lovely gothic clothing (some of which is from Paris, which is... rather hard to get to from Canada so I could replace the clothing) would get first priority.

If a fire ever did happen, though, I would be so very very screwed, being a student living in a small apartment with zero insurance and 500+ video games (a good portion of which are games from the N64/PSX era with some titles that are on the rarer side), one doll, expensive gothic clothing, many video game systems, and not to mention my university textbooks alone... agh!

    13. With the way my bedroom is set up (given the fact I don't know how I would react) I could chuck my little Clover in my DS tote, with my phone and DS, possibly grab my laptop cause I sleep with it next to me, and smash my bedroom window with something if I can't leave through my (closed) bedroom door.

Everything else can be replaced. I wouldn't worry about grabbing Clover's clothes or anything - just her and go. I know she can be replaced but she's like a child to me. As for the cats, well, call me a little selfish, but Bastion sleeps with mum 90% of the time, and Sox with my brother. If I have to leave through my window, I can't double back into the house to get them.

    14. I´ve thought of this quite often.. well not IF they were coming with me.. more.. HOW ? xD It goes along with the question how would you get out if there were fire and you couldn´t use the frontdoor ? I´m living in Austria .. more fields than streets.. and i´m not living at home anymore but moved out a time ago and have my own appartment.. so if there wouldn´t be my bf sleeping next (of course i would care of him first) + somehow i´m always imagining a fire started when i´m asleep ( maybe that´s because a fire could never be so big at day when everyone is awake and would see and smell it immediately)
so i would grap my traveling bag (right under my bed x) walk to the dolly shelves (next to my bed x), put all dolls in and climb out the window (there´s a big tree in the garden in front of the window x) i´m 2nd floor. so YES, i would definitely save them, right next to the only thing that´s maybe even more important : my laptop.
you might even say i´m kind of prepared, since i always try to keep important things in my bedroom. ^^"
      P.s.: i don´t have any pets.
If i were at my parents house i wouldn´t know who i would save first, i´ve siblings, parents, pets there.

    15. I don't live in a region that is prone to flooding or earthquakes or tornadoes so I would not need a warned-of disaster contingency plan, although if I did I would have plans aside to at least put them somewhere safe until the danger had passed.

As for house fires, me and other humans first. If my doll happens to be within reach then she gets grabbed, otherwise I am out the door making sure that other residents are also out.

A doll can be replaced and is not worth a human life, not even your own.

      Phil.

    16. If it was up to me to save the people around me, I would definitely choose family. But if I could take at least one doll with me, I know exactly which I would save. It's such a scary problem, I can hardly think about it.

    17. people first. since i live in an singapore where there's almost close to no natural disaster, earthquakes, tornados, and floods etc don't apply. but in cases of fires/emergency evacuations etc, i'll probably scream at everyone to ask them to get out while getting my wallet, my money, my phone, trying to find a bag to chuck them in. then, i'll grab my doll. if he's in the box, it's probably not a good idea to get him though. gah. but i won't want to end up hurting myself just to save him. it's kind of sad really, but somehow, i don't foresee myself getting him if i'm rushing out of the house.

    18. Obviously family comes first, pets included. I'm not even sure we could grab all the cats quickly! In case of a fire, I might actually break my bedroom window and throw a lot of things into my next-door neighbor's yard. Cat's in carriers, bird in cage, frogs in tupperware; Once living things were secure, dolls under one arm, laptop under the other. I've long since learned detatchment from collectibles as my cats have broken most of them at one time or another.

But we're not in a flood zone, or tornado territory, and there's a fire hydron twenty feet from our yard. We are in earthquake country, and any evacuation would come after the fact, so I guess there wouldn't be much of a rush. I'd have to step over the dolls to get the frog tank, anyway.

    19. If I had more time I would but no. I won't come back for them unless everything is safe and clear. They are in a hard case so I won't be terrified at all. But if the house was burning. I won't come back for them really unless I had them in my arms.

    20. I think it depends on the situation but if I'm prepared for it, I'd put mine in the closest bag/rucksack with any extreme valuables I can get my hands on while making sure everyone is alright and then evacuate as fast as possible.
