Disaster! Must evacuate! Will your dolls go with you?

Jun 29, 2008

    1. My priorities boil down to this:

      1. Athena (my cat. I would not leave her in the house.ever.forever.end.of.discussion.)
      2. Messenger bag (holds everything really important to me like my 2 most recent sketchbooks, my car keys, my phone and sometimes my phone charger, my ipod, and my clutch which has all my important cards and such in it, also sits right next to my bed).
      3. Riley (my only [at the moment] doll)
      4. All the other sketchbooks I still actually have (which are in a convenient little stack. Thank you OCD)

I'm not sure if I'd grab Riley first or all my sketchbooks to be completely honest. I might attempt to rip my hard drive out of my 360 and my grab my PS2/1 memory cards and also grab some of my harder to find video games if I had the time but really I don't have a ton of possessions that would break my heart if I lost them.

    2. I have not read the entire post.....

      But in a word.....

I will take the extra 15 seconds or what have you to ensure they leave with the rest of the family

      Our Dolls ARE Family.

      Robert and Desirae

    3. If it was a hurricane, and I had time to pack, yes I would take them.
But since I have been through a house fire, sudden disasters no, I would not have time to get the dolls. I would get my fiance and my cats and bird and get out. That was one thing that shocked me, was how fast a house can burn.
But on a happier note, I did not own any dolls during the house fire:)

    4. My life, the life of my mother, if I would have a pet, than the pet's life and Then my Dolls would come on my list. I think I would really want to safe my sketchings, drawings, skripts and so on to, but thats really to heavy for every emergency:atremblin
But Live is the most important thing to safe.
and it depends on the situation of emergecy. how many time to leave and so on...

I can fully understand it. But my little and more important works and scribbles where every important things are written are with all the other stuff in one big, heavy box.... i should clean it up...<_<''
And if I lost it, there would be nearly no way to get it back, I coudn't even remember the character full names without my notes *cry*

    5. If I were being evacuated I would probably take my dolls, at least the customs. If I were in immediate danger I doubt I would worry about the dolls. My priorities would be:
      1. people
      2. pets
      3. purse contents (ID, bank card, meds, etc.)
      4. photo CD's & family paperwork (birth certificates, passports, etc.) stored in the same case
      5. family heirloom jewelry (that I should probably move to the same case as items in #4)
      6. custom dolls
      7. scrapbooks
My stock dolls and other collectibles could be replaced whereas the items listed above couldn't be!

    6. Loved ones first, of course. But seeing as I only have one doll, and she sits right by my bed, it probably wouldn't be too difficult to just grab her on my way out. :)

    7. In the area where I live, hurricanes are serious buisness. I suppose it comes down to how big the storm is--if it's just some flooding, I'd leave my doll. If it looks to be very serious, then I would certainly bring her case along with my regular bags.

    8. If I'm in my room, simply because of the layout, I'd grab them. See, they're both in Hayato's box, which is on the way out of the room. It's all a matter of reaching over and tucking them under my arm. That is, my resins are in the box. The Obitsus are scattered... in pieces... and replaceable much more easily... I don't feel as much of a connection to the Obitsus. I think, though, priority would go to my external hard drive, in case my computer doesn't make it. If there's time, grab the dolls.

This is only because everything living in the house would be taken care of by someone else. If I have to worry about something living besides myself or my husband, the dolls and hard drive get last priority.

    9. I will escape with my dolls. :3nodding: I will be very very upset if they are not with me ~ :...(

ps: But family members life will come first. Then I will save my doll!

    10. I would take my dolls with me, no MATTER the situation.
As well as my laptop, of course <3.
I've spent too much money on my dolls, I wouldn't just let them go so easily D:

    11. I live in costal georgia, so the threat of hurricanes are pretty real here, and it would be me and the dogs alone since they would put my hubby on the sub (if it were in dock) and leave me to fend for myself. I have a bag on standby so all I would grab are essentials and my dogs and hit the road. Thankfully thats an early enough warning that people can prepare. So yeah I would take my dolls and if alone would take some other things like my mini Mac and mini laptop (I have a lot of art and writings saved so its pretty essential) but i have things backed up on an external so that would be pretty priority *goes of on tangent* OOPS

But yeah, around the season I usually pull out the bag and keep it in the front room and if possible keep my dolls and their things together for a quick grab and eye the weather.

My Mom's house however is in tornado alley, so thats a bit more on the line of warning/watch type. If its a watch I would start moving essentials downstairs since she has an in ground basement. Only if I had time. If its a warning I would get the dogs and myself downstairs and if i had a second to spare, throw the dolls in their bags and toss them under the bed or in the bathroom

    12. I'd like to think if I had time I would definately try to grab my laptop & my dolls. But something happened last night that makes me wonder if I would actually do either...:sweat

Last night after dinner I was sitting in my room in front of my laptop & with my dolls on their shelf right behind me easily in reach. Out of the blue, there's a sound like a super extreme clap of thunder and the entire house shakes. I thought for sure a tree had fallen through the roof, or something had crash landed on it. I jumped up and ran outside to see...and eerily saw nothing wrong at all. We soon learned that not two streets away a lady's house had caught on fire and quite literally exploded (miraculously no one was killed; it seems the poor lady was able to escape the blaze with her dog just before it blew). It was the shockwave that had caused the shake and the sound.

Later thinking back on it, even though there was no obvious immediate danger, and even though my important possessions were right around me, I never once thought about taking them outside with me to (where I thought was) safety. It makes me wonder if in a "real" emergency I would think about anything at all besides my & my family's lives. I guess that's not a bad thing, but I just know I'd dearly miss my comp & dolls if I couldn't (or more especially if I never even tried to) save them, too.

    13. I used to babysit one of my friend's dolls while I was away at college, and one time we had the fire alarm go off. Since it wasn't my apartment that was on fire, I took the time to put my friend's doll in a bag before rushing outside. It was only a drill, but I didn't want to risk killing my friend's property. I did, however, leave my three other dolls in my closet.

In the event that my apartment had been on fire, I wouldn't have stopped to grab a doll unless I happened to be in a position where I could grab and go, and even then, it probably would have been the one that didn't belong to me. My dolls are important, yes, and an investment, but in the end, safety is the biggest priority. Had I been frightened for my life, I know for a fact I wouldn't even think about something as petty as a doll until I was safe.

    14. @ImmortalDarknyss: Omgh... how scary! What on earth happened to randomly make her HOUSE explode!?

      Seeing as I have only one doll (currently still in her box as she has no "little corner" or something to go to) and she's on my desk along with my laptop. So if there was an emergency I'm sure I'd easily be able to grab both. Maybe some random clothes. I'd be sad to leave my figures behind though... ^^; Especially my MONSIEUR-BOME KOS-MOS... ;_;

      Though... even if she were outside her box (and perhaps I had a couple others) I'd prolly just nab 'em (not caring to put them in a bag or something). This is, provided that, the disaster is something I had time to quickly grab something. I'm really not sure... I honestly hate thinking about the worst. ^^;

Edit: Why did it show me ImmortalDarknyss's post as the 1st? o Ao; Silly forums...

    15. They're still investigating, but it most likely had something to do with a gas leak. It was scary enough from where I live. I can't imagine how bad it was for the immediate surrounding homes. Lots of closer neighbors have said that they had shelves of stuff knocked off their walls, and windows out, and her next door neighbors houses actually had outer walls collapse. Not a good situation. :( And all that in the middle of a snowstorm, too. A house fire is horrific enough. An explosion...? Yeah. Seriously crazy.

    16. Having spent the past couple of days waiting to see if I will need to evacuate due to flooding I have thought about this a lot more than I ever did before. I wouldn't take my dolls. I would try to secure them in as safe a place as possible and get myself out.

What I would take with me is:
      Identification
      Medication
      My cell phone
      A change of clothes
      My guinea pig

    17. OF COURSE!!!
i wouldnt be able to bear leaving him behind T_T and my snake as well of course but this is a bjd question hehe
but hopefully there will not be a situation where i have to

    18. It would depend entirely on how much time I had and how panicked I was. I live alone, so no need to worry about other people or pets. In an immediate, leave-now-or-die emergency, such as a fire... well then realistically, all I grab are my purse and keys, and I'm out the door. Depending on the severity, I may not even take those. As much as I'm attached to my stuff (dolls and otherwise), at the same time, I'm not willing to risk dying for it, either.

Something less immediate, where I have time - hours, maybe days or even weeks - to evacuate, that's a different story. I'll be grabbing essentials and everything I would be very unhappy to see destroyed. This would include my dolls. I don't know if I would grab all of them, but my favorite(s) and the ones I'm currently babysitting for a friend would definitely go with me.

    19. I suppose it would depend on how quickly I needed to get out and how freaked I was. My emergency bag is actually right next to my dolls and pretty huge even with the things I need in it (It's pre-packed), so I suppose if something happened and my head was clear enough I could just messily stuff them in--shouldn't take more than a second. Most of the emergencies I've been through in the past did not require evacuation (and the one that did had a really long lead time), though...so I'm not entirely sure how I'd really behave. I hope I never see the day where I really have to evacuate. :o

    20. I'm lucky that where I am, there are no sudden disasters like earthquakes, cyclones or floods. If the house caught fire, however, I'd grab my dogs and get out, though I'd probably have to fight the rest of the family for possession of the dogs. I'd also make sure that my whole family got out as well.

I'd be -upset- that I lost my dolls in the fire, but they're just possessions. They don't have a life of their own. They can be replaced.

The dogs are living creatures, and they are a part of my family - We love them and they love us back. There's the big distinction between what you should risk your life for and what you can go without.

Possessions can be replaced, but lives can't.
