Disaster! Must evacuate! Will your dolls go with you?

Jun 29, 2008

    1. A flood or a hurricane, I would bring the dolls with me (as well as my laptop)

Something immediate, like a fire, my dolls can be replaced, my snakes can't

    2. We just had a Tornado situation here, and all my dolls came downstairs with me, as well as my purse.

Oddly, my Husband elected to stay upstairs in bed.

Shows where my priorities were, huh?

    3. I probably would take the doll with me if i had time. however, if i HAD to leave quickly then i would have no choice :'(

    4. I would first worry about my family and our large quantity of caged animals and how to get them out safely :l
we would also have to somehow evacuate snakes without grabbing their several pound-awkward to carry tanks.
My dolls on the otherhand are usually in their travel cases (with handles) so if I had time to go back for them I could easily grab them up. If not then they have some protection before the disaster got to the doll itself thankfully. I try not to think about it seeing as I would rather not try to grab our scorpion with my bare hands in a desperate attempt to get every living thing out alive -w-

    5. I actually DID have this issue. I am a Katrina evacuee. I had to leave everything. Including pets. I was rushed out with a small bag of clothing, and nothing else.

    6. @ wolfylee - Snakes can be evacuated in pillowcases, they feel secure in pillowcases as it's a small, dark space where they can curl up

@ karighan - Did you manage to be reunited with your pets?

    7. Living things over stuff, always, but id grab my dolls after that along with my art if i had time. Actually, something fairly similar happened to me last year - my mum drove the car into a puddle that turned out to be deep, deep enough to stall the car, and we all had to wade ashore. And all my stuff from uni was in the car. And i grabbed my laptop and my dolls and totally forgot most of a years worth of uni notes >_<

    8. OMG. First thing I would grab is my cat. Then I would grab as many of my BJDs as I could, multiple trips if I have the opportunity. Once all the dolls are safe, then I'd try to grab emergency food and water or something. Lol, how horrible is that?!

    9. For a hurricane, I would definitely pack my dolls. Hurricane Katrina already destroyed my old house... I wouldn't want to leave my dolls behind. I left a lot of things behind before Katrina hit, thinking I would come back in a few days.

As for a fire, I'd make sure all my family members or whoever else is in the house gets out safely, then I'd grab my pets, and then my dolls if I could.

    10. I have so many sentimental things.. that they would have to come first unfortunately. If I had the time, like a day's notice to pack, then of course my doll would come with me. But if it were a sudden fire or earthquake and things of the like, I'd have to worry about my family and.. baby blanket first. :sweat
The thought has made me really sad now.. :sorry

    11. Honestly, I'd leave them along with the thousands of dollars worth of electronics in my apartment.

    12. First I'd try to get my loved ones out of the house/area, then pets (which are more or less included in the loved-ones-part for me, they're like family <3) and then dolls if I have a chance. I only have one doll, so it wouldn't be like, having to take 30 resin people with me. ^^;
If I had more dolls and couldn't take all of them, I'd probably take the ones I like the most/are of the most value. (also because the more expensive ones could be sold to buy things that get lost in the disaster)

    13. I actually had a perfect example of this. There was a tornado and severe storm, and they evacuate our dorms at my college. So I was in the basement with a lap full of dolls, because even if it's a false alarm, I want to know they're safe. Same for every fire drill we have at school. I grab the dolls, clothed or not, with my wallet and skedaddle out the door shoeless or in flip flops. They'll come with me no matter what.

    14. The only real emergency that would happen here is a house fire, since we don't have hurricanes, earthquakes or nature disasters like that. If the house would be on fire my priority wold be: any pets I'm having (right now a cat), the dolls (I would even just grab them all in my arms if necessary), and my computer. My family can take care of them selfs, but surely, I would check them too.

    15. For me, it would depend on what happends. And where I am, upstairs in my own room or somewhere downstairs. I don't have my BJD jet, but I do know, that when I'm sure my family is able to safe themselves, I would take my BJD with me. (Or later, BJD's). But as nothing really happend here, perhaps maybe a fire, I would just take them with me, together with my laptop and the pets I'm able to save. (Cats, rat and snakes that is).

    16. I don't have pets (or either a doll) but lets say that I have a doll, my house is burning and I need to get out at the MOMENT. Would I take my dolls with me? I would make sure everyone is out, and then I would just grab one(the most precious doll) , put it inside my shirt, my pockets or something and run like if a maniatic dude was running behind me with a gun :P. So the answer will be yes, but only if it's possible, I wouldn't risk my safety or my family's because of a doll.

    17. This has happened to me twice so far >.<
The first time was the Christchurch earthquake in Sept 2010. Because it was at 4am, it was pitch black, and we were in an apartment building. When the quake hit we could hear a building down from us collapsing, so my partner and I just got out as fast as we could. We couldn't find a torch, so couldn't find our kitten when we left, so that was really hard. Right then I was only worried about my partner and my kitten, but I did manage to grab my teddy as we left - she was in bed with us, and my great grandma gave her to me when I was born, so she is pretty special. After a week my partner (slightly illegally) snuck back into the apartment and rescued the kitten, and he grabbed my dolls as well. Pretty much as soon as we got out I was really worried about Vergil (kitten) and my dolls, because I am pretty sentimental about them, and wouldn't have been able to replace them easily. Not because they are limited or anything, but because they all have their own personalities and stuff.
The second time was the quake this February. Luckily our house wasn't damaged, but we decided to go to my partners grandparents place as it had power. The first time we left I didn't take my dolls, because I knew they were safe in our house - its a little wooden bungalow/cottage, so didn't have any damage. After a week or so when we came back to get some essentials like clothes etc, I grabbed them because I had time to and I needed something to do while we were stuck inside doing nothing.
So yeah, for me it is my partner and kitten first, then my dolls pretty close after that. I also always want to have my teddy as well, because she is one of the only things I have from my great grandma, and my charm-bracelet, because it is basically non-replaceable.

    18. I've actually had nightmares about natural disasters striking and for some reason, I always go back for my dolls; At least Hansel. In a real emergency however, I'd make sure everything living was safe before even thinking of going back for them. As for evacuation, they'd be coming with me along with my old sketchbooks and other stuff that just couldn't be easily replaced.

    19. If I had time to pack I would take my dolls or at least my favorites. If it was sudden like a fire I would have to make sure my family and pets were out. No time to worry about dolls. I would probably grab my computer and box of pictures if I could.

    20. There was a rumor that a mandatory evacuation would happen here because of the radiation fears, but it didn't happen. Knowing that space in my luggage would be at a premium, I had plans to pop the heads off my dolls and pack those. I figured the bodies would be easier to replace than the heads with faceups. :sweat

If I were in immediate danger, I would leave my dolls. Family and pets would be the only thing on my mind.
