Disaster! Must evacuate! Will your dolls go with you?

Jun 29, 2008

    1. As I'm typing this (on my phone), I'm in the basement due to a wave of severe storms sweeping my region that has resulted in a tornado warning for my area. My first priority was moving my mom, her dogs, my cats, and essentials like blankets, pillows, and wateer into the basement. We had plenty of advanced warning, though, so I was able to go upstairs and get my laptop, sketchbook, purse, and to put my dolls in a bag and bring them down as well.

However, if it were a situation where I had very little advance warning, i'd get all the essentials first and make sure my family and pets were safe before even considering my dolls.

    2. Ignore please! Was on my phone... didn't mean to double post.

    3. When cyclone Yasi went through in Febuary, my family and I were given ample time to bunker down and get our stuff sorted. All the dolls got packed away to the best of my ability (Wrapped in bubble wrap and placed in their boxes then stashed in my wardrobe) I figured if they were going to be blown away, then there's not much that can be done about that. I'm not arguing with a cyclone xD

If, for some reason, there was absolutely no warning, the first thing I'd grab would be my handbag. It carries my wallet and phone. My whole life is in that wallet, ID, bank cards, health care cards, insurance, the lot. I try to keep a charger in my bag as I travel a lot so as long as I have an electicity source I would always have my phone up and running :D I'd try and grab my papers too. Very important. I'd possibly make a dash for my netbook as it's small. It would be nice to make a grab for my dolls, but I wouldn't risk my life for them. Then I'd jump in my car and drive away :B There's always fuel in my car and a spare set of clothes in the back. (Hahaha, seriously, forever travelling on the roads XD!)

    4. Hmm... That all depends on the type of disaster, I suppose... If it was one that I had some warning for, and a little time, I may try to save my dolls. But my main priority will always be my family, and my pets. Those come first, before anything else. So if everyone was safe, and all pets accounted for, and I still had a little time to run back and get some things, I might be inclined to grab a doll~

    5. My little Lucas would be one of the first things I grabbed.

The others only if I had room... sad to say... :( Those can be replaced but lucas is my cheapest and the one I worked the hardest on.

    6. I live in hurricane territory, and like most I secure pets and essentials first, but comphorting things are also high on the list. For my own comfort, rather than the 'safety' of my dolls, I'd probably make sure they came along with me.

    7. I feel like I already posted here, but..

If I had time, such as if there was an evacuation, I would probably pack as many dolls as I could without them getting in the way. If it was an emergency, unless there was one in plain sight, I would be out of there before the thought of them even crossed my mind.

    8. Last month's tsunami warning instructed those not in the safe zones to move to higher ground or evacuation center. Having a new baby, I could not take any dolls with me.

If I did not have a baby, I think I would have taken my child dolls (which I don't have much of). I always think my older dolls can fend for themselves, but not the youngens. I think of them as real people, however they spend thier time in my closet now since my baby took over their room. Kyo Tenshi Shiratori watches over my son.

    9. Maybe if I had a warning and time to plan it out. But if it was something immediate like a fire getting my cat out would come first. I'd still probably try to grab some of them though with the arm that isn't carrying my kitty.

    10. My Cat follows me everywhere I go, so I wouldn't have to worry about grabbing her.

In terms of items, My artwork and my doll are my two most prized possessions. (All my artwork and art programs are on a thumb drive I always have on me 24/7, or in arms reach.) I would grab Soraya and Go! I think the only case I wouldn't grab her, is if there was too much between us. I would risk a number of hefty burns to save her, maybe even my left arm, but I wouldn't risk my life.

In terms of a warning evacuation,

      *Family
*Thumb drive/Tablet (Always close by each other)

Now when I say Family, I include my doll and my cat. My attachment to my doll is like . . . border lining unhealthy...

    11. Maybe I would grab a big bag where I could put everything on it. money, cellphone, important papers, and my dolls..i don't think i could just leave them when the situation comes..we do have pets in our house, but I just don't know how to save them..we have fishes..

    12. I think i'd have to take my first doll with me even if it was an urgent one. It's only a single belonging, everyone takes something. Might be a bit much to pack and lug 5 dolls around.

    13. If I have time for like ahuricane or something then yeah, I'd totally grab my babies :D If everyone else is safe and I only have to worry about myself, in a fire or tornado, if given the time as in, if they are close by then I'd snatch them up, but if not... well that would be a sad sad day :(

    14. My dolls will definitely come with me..along with my important documents, cellphone, wallet, and some clothes. Since I live by myself, I have no choice but to be ready always. I have all my important documents in a file case and I always have a huge bag prepared in my room for easy packing..

    15. Well it depends on the disaster. Hurricane? YES they will be packed up with me! Tornado?....probably not I couldn't possible grab both of them and save my family. Fire? depends on the severity. If worst came to worst I would try to save atleast one...

    16. If there were some sort of warning of a potential disaster... My doll and her clothes would be the first, and one of the few things I would pack.

If there weren't any sort of warning, I would make sure that my two cats and two dogs and parents were safe. If I had the time and ability to get my doll, I would not leave her behind. Odds are she would have been within my reach anyway. She is with me almost all of the time.

    17. I am used to evacuateing due to Hurricanes. Went through Katrina a few months after I got married. Husband I packed alot fo stuff we could not leave just in case something happened to our apartment at that time. We were lucky though.. that everything ended up ok as far as home, but it was crazy due to husband lost job and my parent's house and grandma's house flooded. Which we were at my grandma's house with my parents thier two dogs, bird and our two cats. We got knee deep water where we stayed at my grandma's. When my stepfather told us water was coming in. I grabbed my cats while my husband threw all of our stuff we brought on the bed. It was scary.. ><
After we had our daughter.. I do think alot about evacuation and emergencies. We have had no Hurricanes here since my daughter was born except one ,but it came when I was pregnant with her.

If I had advanced warning like with a Hurricane then after my family(husband and 2 yr old daughter),cat, and dog was in the car. Then I would grab my doll right before I got in the car so she would be with us. Along with our clothes and maybe a few other things if they fit.

If no warning then my family, cat, and dog would come first and if I had the extra time I would grab my doll.

    18. I'm not sure. I guess it depend how much I have to carry and grab my top isms and see if I still have more room for my dolls

    19. The dolls would probably have to be left behind even if I had time to prepare. :( But if I could grab only one it would be my Iplehouse Benny.

    20. Well seeing as we just had a Tornado hit town just about 2 miles away from me....I can safely say that my dolls weren't even on my mind. We had short prep time and nowhere to go. (We have no basement.) the only things I did were grab my cats and wallet, and hide in the bathroom since there were no windows in there. Thankfully, my home was unaffected.
