Disaster! Must evacuate! Will your dolls go with you?

Jun 29, 2008

    1. Well, since we just had the worst tornado scare in my area, I can say that yes, in the event of an emergency, my dolls would be coming with me. xD;;
      My mom and I figured out a way to ensure certain valuables would be safe. We all ready have certain foods and bottled water in the basement, along with clothes and other necessities. And we always keep luggage and suitcases in our rooms, so if a time did come, we'd be able to grab our close possessions and be able to bolt within minutes.

      Thanks to my dad who gave me this valuable experience, I can pack a suitcase or knapsack in three and a half minutes. xD (The one thing I'm proud to admit!)

      It's a very, very scary thought, though. I'd be quite heartbroken if I had to leave my little resin hoard behind. ;~; (Also if my mom is allowed to shamelessly grab six to ten pairs of shoes, I should be able to shamelessly grab my six dolls xD).

    2. Definitely! Only...if I'm in my room in the case of a fire though. I'm not going to risk my life if something such as a fire happens and I'm downstairs. For other things, such as storms, I'd totally run to get them. I would just lunge at them (they're on my bed) grab them into my arms and fly down the stairs afterward.

    3. Well obviously I'd have to be sure my family and pets were safe first (and we have a lot of pets xD five huskies, an indoor dog, three cats, and a yard full of peafowl, so I'd have a lot to help with) but if I could I would definitely grab my dolls. My possession priority would go kind of like phone > dolls > any clothes I had made to sell > sewing machine > fabric > camera.

    4. The possibility of an evacuation due to a hurricane is a fact of life where I live. As a result DH and I have a plan as to what we need to take with us any left over space in the car could then go to a few of my dolls.

    5. I have two cats, so they go first obviously.
      After that comes my camera I think. Allthough I think I would just *throw* that and all my dolls in a big bag (I have plenty of large shopping bags) if there was any time. Sure, things can get damaged like that but I'd rather damage them from bumping into things and eachother than that the dolls and my camera are molten or crushed by walls or something.

    6. I would grab my beloved animals first, then sling all my dolls in a duffel bag, along with my external hard drive and camera, if I had the time, some of my very expensive clothing/ makeup / Jewelry in another duffel bag, then, I'm good!

      I have all said items in one room so I think I could do all that in about 3 minutes flat.

    7. Hah, I just realized I have all my valuables in the same room as well, just like Empty. Except my shoes collection, but that's a lot easier to replace.
      Dolls are right next to me, I could just toss em in a bag. Camera is always near me. Only problem would be the cats xD

    8. I've actually had a nightmare where there was a disaster and I had to evacuate and all my dolls were sitting in the backseat of my car with my cat -_-;;

      But if there was an emergency I would grab as many of my dolls as I could (that would fit) >_< Of course my bf and my cat would come first!!

      I live in Cali and am always scared of a giant earthquake bringing all my dolls tumbling down and breaking!!

    9. For me, it depends on the disaster and the time to plan. Tornado or flooding? Yes, I would take them with me. Earthquake? I would grab the one that meant most to me. House fire? If I had to kick out my window and leave within seconds, I would probably grab one if I had time after gabbing my computer back-up disks, medicine, and wallet (photo ID, money, etc).

      First and foremost, however, lives are more important than dolls - so knowing me, I'd probably end up worrying about my pets and family above all else.

    10. If I knew the disaster was coming, like say a flood or something and they gave a few days warning of evacuation, then yes I would take my dolls. (All two of them.) But if it was an INSTANT life threatening situatiion like a house fire then I probly wouldn't for a few reasons. One, its much more important to get loved ones and pets safe. Two, items are always replaceable (no matter how attached u are to dolls). And three, I don't think i'd be thinking about dolls during house fire because i'd be in a slight state of shock.

    11. Well, now I live in Florida, though central lake area of FL, & start of hurricane season was just announced. I now have my own car, saved all the boxes & packing materials, so I can quickly pack up my bjd tribe & put them in my car. Just as I wouldn't leave my pets behind, I wouldn't leave my bjd's behind. My mind would be unsettled & I would be too on edge.
      As for fire, first time I have lived in an apt with a sprinkler system & a huge fire extingusher, & I live on ground floor & have 2 immediate exit routes.

    12. Hahaha. Love this topic.
      Yes, I would of course grab them with me if I was warned a good while before and had time to pack. But's if it's a sudden disaster, then I don't think I'd even think about them. I guess I'm not on that plan yet... :sweat Let's just hope it wouldn't happen. I'd probably cry my lungs out thinking about the money spent on them when the shock over the disaster dies out.
      It's so funny how people in here would take their computer with them before thinking about the doll. I guess I'm not the only one in here really happy for my computer ;) But still.. I would probably grab the doll before grabbing the comp since I spent a lot more on the doll than my cheap comp. Hihi.

    13. I'm afraid they wouldn't make it. In case of a fire they just wouldn't be the first thing on my mind..

    14. pets and people, insurance takes care of other things. it would be hard to decide whether to buy the same dolls again or accept them as gone and get different ones tho.

    15. Good point... I think I'd get new ones. Replacing the old ones with similar looking dolls would feel weird. I could go out and buy the same doll again because I love a particular sculpt, but I'd style and name her in a different way.

    16. If we had a warning and had like a day to get out of there, I would bring my dolls and their stuff... And some of my cloth x'D And my computer :P
      But if the house was on fire... I think I would be sure that my pets and my family was okay... And if the fire was in the other end of the house go rescue my grail doll x'D Soom Amber :P Maybe not the easiest doll to rescue though x'D But if the fire was in the kitchen, which is next to/under my room, then I would maybe grab my RS Mei on my way out... I dunno.... :P

      I can't really say if that is what I would do in an real situation x'D Never tried it, so I dunno how I would react :P

    17. And let's hope we'll never be forced to find out ;)

    18. Depends on how much time I have on hand. If it's very restricted then I'm gonna grab both my parents and my purse (lying on my shelf) out the door but if I have time (like a few hours or something) then: 1. my parents, 2. important documents to take with me plus some cash on hand, 3. a few clothing items and something to wash myself (shampoo, body wash, toothpaste, etc), 4. a few items that I can take with me like my dolls (mostly likely).

    19. My cats would always come first. Luckily I only own a pukipuki, so I could easily put that one in my pocket.
      But if I would have a lot of bigger BJDs, I might take the most valuable with me. If I happen to lose anything I own, I could always sell that bjd.

    20. If I had enough time to pack and take valuable with me, of course I would take them. (They're hundred of dollar! XD)

      But if it's one of those situation, where you wake up in the middle of the night by the overwhelming smell of smoke, the thought of running to save my doll probably wouldn't even occur to me. My Top priority in emergency situation like that is Lives. Get Everyone Out asap. =)
