Disaster! Must evacuate! Will your dolls go with you?

Jun 29, 2008

    1. I rent a rather small place so if there was an emergency Id grab them. They live on a box next to the way out anyway....I even have to move them a little to get out. Their suitcase is allway packed (for some reson unknown even to me)

      It`s just me, my dolls and my plants (Id grab them too) After that (and if there were more time) perhaps Id go back for my kimono`s and other valuable's. Backup CD`s, extra cash and Id cards are allways in my dolls suitcase

    2. I would only be able to grab one, in any disaster.
      Which is fine, considering I only have two dolls. I'm sure my girlfriend would grab the other yelling at me some thing like 'WHAT ARE YOU DOING LEAVING TECHNO BEHIND?!' <_<;
      Mind you If I had like 10 dolls... I think I would let them all stay behind, because just picking one would make me feel really guilty. I have a hard enough time with carrying around 2 dolls. I cant begin to imagine 4 or 5 dolls. . .

      There's also a small factor that I would have other none-doll things to save. <_<;

    3. I live in Minnesota, so there aren't too many disasters around here. I'm in a valley so tornadoes go around us too... The only thing I'd ever have to worry about would be a fire. I would make sure my husband is safe, as well as my cat, guinea pig, and then be concerned for my dolls. We can replace our 32 inch flat screen tv, PS3, and XBox 360. Luckily, I own three fairly small dolls that are within easy reach that I could run out the door. I don't feel like my heart would be right if I lost them. I feel bad for people that own many more dolls than me...I can't imagine how hard it would be to lose that many!

    4. I would if I could.. like if there was enough time to get my family and pets out of the house first, and then my dolls, I so would. They are a part of the family too, so it would have to be something extreme for me not to.

    5. first family then pets. and i have a lot of pets so my dolls probably would not make it x_x

    6. After making sure my mother and two pets are ok, I'd be grabbing my dolls.My dolls are among the few possessions I call "my babies", so they, along with my laptop are all kept in easily accessible places in case of quick evacuation at all times. So, clothes, shoes, don't need them, I have my babies. :)

    7. I've lived in Florida and been through a few mandatory evacuations. We couldn't take much away with us and always went inland and north or south to a motel/hotel so we could take our pets. I used to put belongings of importance in rubbermaid totes and seal them closed with duct tape then bag and seal again and pray. I'd do the same with the dolls if I still lived there. As for other disasters.. I'm not sure that I'd grab any of them. Really, I would rather load my arms with cats and the hamster. If I didn't have anybody to worry over I'd probably grab Lilia if I could.

    8. I live in earthquake country... and there are fires, too, so I've thought about it.

      Of COURSE one would think first of getting safely out yourself--and with other people and pets! That's just a given (or at least it SHOULD be!).

      Also, important stuff for life, like computers/laptops, purses, money, ID, insurance papers, maybe precious photos, pricey equipment like cameras--whatever you have that you need and can't replace easily or that is extremely precious to you, or expensive.

      For me, the dolls are part of the last bit--precious, expensive, can't replace easily.

      If at all possible, I would try to get them out!!!

    9. I think it would depend on how much presence of mind I had at the time.

    10. I would absolutely take my dolls with me. If I knew that I could go into the house, even it is on fire and save the doll...I would. I live in an apartment and it's only downstairs so there's not a whole lot that I would have to go through. I would get the doll out of my room and just go out of a window in there. Simple as that. As for tornado's and such here...we get them but they are never that bad. But just if something like should ever occur, I wouldn't leave my doll behind. Because the chances of me not having time to actually get to it are slim to none. So why leave something that I worked so hard for behind. And because I don't have one right now...but hopefully I will soon, it will only be one doll that I have to worry about. Not a whole collection. Which makes it all the more easy for me to, in other words, rescue him.

    11. NO I don't think so, I have to many dolls. I will take my pets and go.You can always replace the dolls.

    12. Yeah like I said if you have a whole bunch of dolls that might be a little harder and maybe not worth it. All depending on how many is "many". We are lucky and don't get really too many natural disasters. There have been times where we have some really bad flooding. But it isn't so bad where it gets into peoples house...at least mine. I don't live near too much water...so lucky me.

    13. I think if I had time, I would still grab a couple from my dolls if I had a lot of them. I would force myself to pick my most expensive/rare or my sentimental favorites. I would feel bad for leaving the rest, but you gotta do what ya gotta do.

    14. So guys and gals when a storm isa brewin do you run to make sure your dollies are safe and warm in comfy beds? do you lock them up in a safe to make sure if the house came down they'd be ok? or do you take them with you no matter where you go holden em close in your arms (as much as you can due to some ppl having a mass quantity XD). tell me your hurricane(or OTHER natural disaster) story! :)

      i dun have an exciting one but when i only had Xiro(dz yi) we(my fam and i) went up north during a big hurricane and i strapped him in his very own seatbelt and we listened to music reading shojobeat on the way to my sisters. he stayed with me the whole time never leaving my sight (i had barely just gotten him at the time x3) and it made me feel better even when the power went out for like 2 weeks XD.

    15. Wow, so many higher priority things... Family first. Computer hard drives and back up CDs and DVDs second (SO many irreplacable photos, artworks, writings, and such on those!). Family photos third. Whatever of my artwork I could fit in the car fourth. Any more grabbable family heirlooms fifth. The doll would come way down the list as an expensive, yet ultimately replaceable thing... Irreplaceable memories come first.

      However, I should point out, that living in Florida with a weather-watching dad and a pre-planning mother... I have a house FULL of plastic storage bins. Whatever we can't take with us before evacuating, gets secured in a storage bin to lessen the chances of water damage. Sure, if a hurricane hits it'll still get scattered all over, but it's a step to help protect things.

    16. My mother can handle herself, so I would grab my valuables and go. (I haven't pets, and luckily all of my really valuable things are easy to move and carry elsewhere.)

      Although, having been born & perpetually living here in this area, I've experienced enough hurricanes to not be bothered and really feel the need to evacuate. Just board up the house and sleep for a while and you're good to go.

    17. Well, if I had a warning, I'd pack everything that's valuable to me and that would include Luken and my three little guys. If I didn't have previous warning and it were something like a sudden fire in the house I'm living in - I'd be screwed. I'd want to save everything from books to dolls to computer (my fan fics are on the harddrive). I'd probably end up saving the print-outs of my stories, I guess. Everything else can be replaced (even the print-outs but it's so tiresome to have to make up the whole story again). No loved ones or pets living with me, so nothing irreplaceable would be lost.

    18. If it were an evacuation situation I'd take my dolls for sure, I only have two tinies, so they don't take up much room, and there really isn't that much other stuff that I wouldn't be able to replace. I could fit all of my sentimental/irreplaceable objects in one backpack. All my important documents (birth certificates, insurance info, CDs, etc) are kept in a safe deposit box, and my grandmother has a second copy of all my important pictures. So all I really have to worry about is my grandfather's dogtags, 2 non-BJD dolls, my cat and my BJDs. In case of a fire or something like that, I'd probably take my BJDs if they were easily grabbed (they're usually right beside my bed). I'd attempt to grab all the stuff I mentioned before, if possible and not putting myself in added danger. I'd look for my cat, but knowing my cat he'd be hiding, and I'm sure I'd die from the flames before I found him, so as much as I hate to admit it, I really wouldn't look for him too much, but grab him if I saw him on the way out.

    19. Most definately my fiancee, our 5 cats and my lizzard would come first. I hate to think of something bad happening to my boys but living loved ones come first.

    20. Getting the obvious out of the way: If I had loved ones (family, pets, friends) living with me, I would make certain they were safe first and foremost, no matter what the situation. ...That said, I live alone, and pets aren't allowed, so...

      If the disaster was something where my life depended on getting out of the building as quickly as possible, such as a fire, then the only thing I'm grabbing on the way out is my purse... but only if it's on my way, and I won't be endangering myself by pausing long enough to get it.

      If the disaster was coming, but I had a few hours or even a day or two before I had to clear out, then yeah, I'm grabbing my dolls... and my computer, and I'm sure lots of other stuff.
