1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Discussion thread for Limhwa Limho Mano

May 21, 2007

    1. Well, if this is any consolation, there's a saying that goes "good things
take time." Maybe your Mano will take a while to get there, but once he gets there
he will be spoiled, and loved like no other! You'll be very happy to have him,
and he'll be very happy to be finally home with you, Vanilla! ^o~

      - Enzyme ^.^

    2. Catrina relays the tracking numbers for the Mano's. At least she did when I got mine. He was well one the way when I got the tracking number! Hang in there! He's worth the wait!

    3. Thank you guys! You really make me feel better :clover
I have a question - does anyone got something from dickblick? I need to buy rembrandt pastels, and it cost twice here... I found landscape set only which is not good for faceups I guess... I mean I'm not in greenish eyeshadow or blushing :ablah:
Enzyme, what kind of pastels do you use? Your colours is so bright and fresh

    4. I've purchased from Dick Blick and have been pleased with the service. Their prices, even with shipping (at least within the U.S.), are usually very competitive, I've found.

    5. You will like the quality of Rembrandt pastels, Vanilla.Sky. :) The quality and color range are excellent, and they work great on resin. And you will love your Mano when he arrives (he is well worth the wait!). Looking forward to seeing pics of your guy in future.

      best wishes,
      earth.spirits

    6. I have shopped from DickBlick for the past four-years, so far they
have always provided great customer service, and are pretty reliable.
I use general's compressed chalk pastels, and pastel pencils, simply
because I am a vegan, and one of my close friends recommended them
to me a while ago. They also have a lot of 'earth-friendly' packaging materials. ^___^
      Hope that helps!

    7. MeahtSingan thank you for an answer :) I think even with a shipping cost it's gotta be much less than here. I even can't find good colours in local art stories :( I've bought the best pastels they had and it was bad. No colour at all and not so soft at all...
earth.spirits thank you! Your Mano is very different one, dunno why I always think about him as a poet soul...

    8. Enzyme, thank you :) I just gonna figure out how to pay them - living without a PayPal here and not be able to get credit card as a foreigner sometimes makes your life complicated a bit :|

    9. Vanilla, I haven't tried a lot of art supplies because, again I am a vegan. XD
      Ironically I have been an 'artist,' for almost all of my life now! ^____^;;
Luckily most of my friends are also artists, and according to them "soft-pastels"
feel a lot like old lipstick (haven't tried that either!) so they are kind of soft but
not too much. I don't know if I would like to work with something sticky like that --
I prefer chalks, they are compressed powders, so a little goes a long way! They
blend pretty well also, and I don't have to worry about messy or gunky face-ups. XD

I don't like paying with my credit cards online, unless it's for school, but I
can see why they are so necessary, specially when buying from foreign
countries. I hope you are able to get the supplies you want, good luck!

    10. Enzyme, that's cool :) I'm not so artistic... and none of my friends care about art or BJD....
I know I need practice, practice and one more time practice if I don't want to ruin my Mano's faceup, but pastel's I've got now absolutely colorless. I don't know what's wrong with pastels here, why you can find everything but this in local art stories

    11. :ablah: Aaack, you mean the "gooey" kind, like oil pastels? I sure as heck would not use them near my doll! Who knows what that'd do to the resin.

I used regular chalk-type pastels too. So much easier than I'd thought! Rub or grind the end of it onto some rough paper, & make a little pile of powder. Then mix the colors together like you would paint, but no water, just brush it on dry. Blow away the excess or brush it off with clean brush / cotton.

All of Stavros's face was done in chalk pastel, I think, except his eyelashes & the top layer of his eyebrows... It's relatively cheap, easy to use, & you can get a set of like 50 colors that'll last you for years. And it's not as finicky as painting (I am not a good painter). When I look at the amount of actual materials I used to create his face, it comes out to a little tiny snort of powder & a few drops of paint. And about 36 hours of brainbreaking labor. :whee:

No, probably not Landscape set! =D Unless you want an elf, maybe.

Well, I can't wait to see who your Mano will be when he arrives, so... good luck! :clover Whoever he is, I'm sure he will be amazing. And you will post lots of pictures for us.

P.S. @earth.spirits, I agree with Vanilla.Sky, your Luis always strikes ME as a "poet soul" too. <3 He's so beautiful and serene, it always makes me feel peaceful just to look at him. Stavros says hello from both of us. :)

(P.S.2: By the way, Iplehouse's size L short-fur wigs... a perfect fit on a Mano!)

    12. Guys, I just got my Mano 5 minutes ago!!!!

JennyNemesis, thank you :) He's arrived but I don't want to post he's pictures yet, as all he has just a pair of eyes (ok, 3 pairs) and even no wigs, wigs coming next week only! And I think this is the last thing he want - to be seen bold, naked and without faceup! I think he will never forgive me that....
I have to say I love him. But here's a lot of work ahead, he's legs are kicky, he needs hot glue as well and sanding gonna be good for him indeed
His personality is almost as I gave to him, just less cruelty and more mystery. He's tender in heart. But he trying to hide it, may be cause he doesn't want to be hurt as in the past.
Ok, I'm stopping babbling :) I'm just happy today :)

    13. Personally, I got a set of Rembrandt soft pastels on sale in February for a fantastic price at Jerry's Artarama http://www.jerrysartarama.com/art-supply-stores/online/1890 It is definitely worth checking out the current prices for the Rembrandt, Windsor and Newton, Schmincke, and Sennelier. These are all professional artist grade pastels. You might also want to consider a set of half sticks, since these will still last you for a long time and are considerably cheaper. http://www.cheapjoes.com/ is another online source that can have really good prices. I hope this helps you find some good supplies for your guy's face-up. I'm looking forward to seeing the results. :)

    14. I'd never restrung a body like that before either, but.... my Mano's body was like yours is! He just couldn't hold still! It was a little scary, but I had to take the plunge & take him apart. If you have a nice narrow stringing-hook (and, even better, a friend to help!), and keep the body-parts separated into Left & Right piles, he's easy to get back together again.

Mine also needed a lot of hot-glue sueding before he'd sit up & stop kicking. (And I think he STILL needs to be even tighter, to make it hold together better.) Here is a good discussion thread about gluing, if needed. http://www.denofangels.com/forums/showthread.php?t=80054

    15. JennyNemesis, no, not like oil-pastels, I was told those are more like wax.
Soft pastels are supposed to have less binding material, so they are more like
dehydrated lipstick, which is the 'term' my friends gave me, not that it makes much
      sense to me, since I've never used lipstick in my life! ^____^;;

Starvos is looking good, great shot of him. I love how the sun hits his skin just so.
Beautiful eyes! Which reminds me, I still need to get Hombre the right eyes. *sigh*

Vanilla, I am so happy for you!!! See, all good things come if you wait for them. ^_____^
I hope you don't take too long to share him with us! There doesn't seem to be enough Manos
      around, those of us who have one, should pimp him as often as possible. ^.^;;
If you are going to restring him, I suggest you be careful with your fingers, the "edges" around
his joints a bit shap/thin, and can give you a pretty nasty bite! I say this from experience...
Also, be careful where you put your fingers when you're trying to pose him, especially around
his legs and hips, or your fingers will be victims of sharp crushing resin, like mine have. XD

earth.spirits, thank you! It's all thanks to my parents for their vegan-teachings, even when people
questioned them for "forcing" a child to eat like a rabbit. But, we only have this one beautiful planet,
we should try to take better care of it, it gives us so much and asks nothing in return -- it's truly not
that hard to be just a little Earth-consious every now and then. ^.^

Gorgeous photo of Lois, I love his striking blue eyes, against those wonderful eyebrows!

    16. JennyNemesis I'm sure hook is easy to find, but not sure who will agree to help me with "voodoo doll", as my friend called him )
Enzyme yeah, I even got my tracking number today)) I don't know what time i'll be able to show him - I'm gonna borrow my friend's Visa and pay for pastels, who knows how long it takes to get it here! I'm so far from USA :|

    17. I hope your materials get there soon Vanilla, I live in the US, and they always
take their time. But maybe it's because I hate splurging on shipping,
when the shipping services here are so unreliable (not to mention how long
customs keeps my packages, but that's a different tale all together). ^.^

      - Enzyme

    18. Enzyme, I've decided to buy pastels from different companies, to try it and find the best one ) I want so many colours but gonna stuck with about 40 I for now
Who knows if Faber-Castel Tack It good for silicone eyes? I have only this and some bad smell putty in local stories...

    19. Vanilla, I just use a small piece of a kneading eraser as "eye-putty."
They don't have any odors, and hold up pretty well.
I have plenty of them anyway because of my work, and
love of drawing, they come in handy, and don't damage eyes even
acrylics are safe (I love Volks' Metallics!).

      - Enzyme ^____^

    20. I just ordered pastels... Think I overreacted a bit and ordered like 50 something, and none is rembrandt)) I think it takes like a couple of weeks to arrive :(
