Vanilla.Sky: Glad you were able to order some pastels for your coming Mano. That's great ~ and it doesn't really matter which brand, most artist brand pastels are good, so I'm sure you'll do just fine!

Enzyme: Thank you, pleased you enjoyed my pics of Luis.

Gilshallos: Thanks for the tips on good places to grab art supplies ~ always good to know!

JennyNemesis: Thank you ~ Yeah, I love this look on Luis too (it's his basic "default" character look) ~ I think crazybib did a wonderful job on his wig! And I 'll be posting a photo shoot soon featuring Luis in this wig, he's such fun to photograph!

earth.spirits I bought some Schmincke pastels and another 2 labels, but I'm not sure how to spell them...And waiting, waiting, waiting again.....

 

Vanilla.Sky ~ Ohh, Schmincke is an excellent brand! One of my friends uses these and gets fantastic results, so you'll love these.

Oh boy oh boy! Hikaru gets a new chest!!

 

Any of you eye-savvy ladies wants to give me some suggestions,
as to where to look for a pair of 12mm (or 14mm) oval-low-domes, or
oval-dome-less pupil-less green eyes? Preferably from a magnufacturer/retailer/seller
here in the US (don't want to pay EMS shipping for a pair of eyes!)?

I'm thinking I might need to email Masterpiece to check if they'll do any custom work
on their eyes, but I'm feeling lazy today, and I'm kind of bored. I feel like eye-browsing lately,
I want to see if I can get some proper eyes for Hombre soon. :3

Enzyme, I bought mine from eyeco, silicone one, but they are not oval at all but low-domes. I think some urethane eyes will be good for Hombre, colours just so bright and eyes looks fantastic) Though might be expensive....

W00t w00t! Everybody see the Elf Man finally cometh? So, who here is getting him?

I personally am having a struggle picturing his face around all that fluff and mohair and pink that he's photographed in (although the Ethereal Fop look is not unflattering on him, really). I would like to see him with straight brown hair & those great ears poking through it. Waa, she makes such great elf ears.


@Enzyme, yeah, Eyeco makes lovely low-dome silicones... I don't think they make pupilless. But they do have crazy green snake-slit & dragon-scale eyes. And it says "coming soon" to the Fantasy section, which means maybe they're thinking of having pupilless eyes soon.

You know who DOES make freaky wonderful blind colors, is Soom. I've just got my first pair of 14mm Soom softglass in another doll (aqua blind-pupil Nereides)-- I haven't tried them in Mano yet-- but at that size, they're single-dome. But they don't make 12mms, boooo.

Also, there's photographic evidence a couple pages back, that 12mm EA Gumdrops fit him beautifully (I think it's Sky modelling them). THEY come in pupilless ("albino") options, and are so luscious. And domestic seller. ^^

Stavros is actually wearing 12mm round glass, from Releaserain on eBay-- they're not too bad a fit. But a little gappy. I think I'm going to go to Eyeco myself.

 

JennyNemesis: I use both Eyeco and Gumdrops 12mm eyes with Luis, and they fit great!

And I am definitely getting Mano Elf ~ He is gonna be fun to work on, and I can guarantee my guy will be very different from the persona presented in the company photos (Not that the company version isn't absolutely gorgeous ~ I just have other delicious plans in mind for mine ~ I'm very pleased to be getting him, as I've been waiting a loooong time to find the perfect avatar for my character!).

 

I admit the Elf has thrown me into confusion. I think I need blank side-by-side comparison shots of the two Mano heads before I can made a decision.

 

*giggles* Yesh yesh. ~.^ And it'll be delishious. X3 I took it out of the package yesterday and did abit of comparing. It seems abit pinker than Hikaru, but I won't know for sure until I switch the chests.

Gawds, I want the Mano Elf too, but I just can't get him right now, plus they're not doing french resin at the moment. I suppose getting beauty white wouldn't be so bad since it would be my first doll to have that resin....I'm not sure though because I already find the french resin to be pale enough.

Would be really cool if we could order the faceplate alone...except I want another whole doll to play off Hikaru. *grins* I think it will be really fun to photograph and rp Mano and Elf together. 33

 

Whee! Really, Earth.spirits, Luis will have an identical elfin playmate? Oh, how sweet will that be. Now I can't wait until he arrives over there! (That is, you don't mean that you're replacing Luis with the elf, right?)

And Luminaire will also have twins? I foresee some excellent photoshoots for that, indeed. Double your pleasure.

St.James, I can't tell from that photo either-- HAVE any of his features changed, besides the ears? He really looks pretty much the same to me. But without a side-by-side, there could be huge glaring differences that I'm just not picking up here. ;; I hope Limhwa posts some good 'naked-face' photos so that you can make that decision. Your house has waited for an elf Mano quite long enough!

 

*collapses after restringing session with Hikaru* Wheew boy! That took just about all I've got! @.@ I forgot how difficult restringing can be and this was twice as difficult because of the glued in head bar. I had to do it completely backwards from normal by undoing the legs/hips/abs instead of the head/arms/chest. The legs are the hardest to undo and get back together. x.x I need to get me a nice wire to do this with from now on because I tell you, strings and bag ties barely cut it. XD; And since I had to basicially take him all apart anyways I gave him a small bath while I was at it.

Hikaru, I'm am completely drained so I'm saving the photoshoot session for another day. XD

I am really looking forward to seeing the owner photos of the Elfs when they arrive. I can't wait to see what everyone does with theirs and how they look with their human counter-part. X3

*bounces* Oh, I certainly hope so JennyNemesis! Hopefully, I'll get in on the next order period for him. *crosses fingers*

I think the changes are very subtle. *compares some similar faceshots between Manos and the Elf* The eyes are slightly more open, the upper lip is slightly fuller, and the bottom lip seems slightly less pillowy around the corners. I think the expression of the eyes and lips are different. I think the nose is also alittle different(more slender) and the cheeks. I think I see something with the chin, but I'm not certain. The brows could be higher...if thats not just an illusion due to the painted eyebrows.

We know that she made Mano to have asymmetrical features to express hero/villan personalities, so perhaps she made the Elf more symmetrical, or did different asymmetrical features? *hmmms* Definitely need more pictures of the Elf.

 

Luminaire: Looking forward to your upcoming photo shoot of Hikaru .
I gave Luis the buff chest too, and it looks great (just waiting for some decent MSC spraying weather so I can blush it).

Enzyme: Gothchics offers some very cool dragon and custom colors for Eyeco, and you can get them in 13mm ~ they size up, so that equals 12mm (she's USA based too).

Vanilla.Sky: You're welcome! It's lovely to be able to chat with other Mano folks.

JennyNemesis: No, I'd never replace Luis ~ He is definitely King of the resin crew around our place (and my personal favorite) ~ He is also my main character. The Elf is slated to become the avatar for another of my characters. And he won't be related or identical to Luis, once I finish customizing / painting him. (I'm also getting him in a different resin color, since that will also help make him look different than Luis).

St.James, Luminaire and JennyNemesis: It's a bit hard to tell looking at the company photos, but I agree with Luminaire that there are enough subtle differences in the new elf guy's facial sculpt, that he does look somewhat different from Mano (besides the obvious cool elf ears, of course). To me, the nose and mouth look a bit different, and the overall facial shape appears to be longer and more angular. Jung Ji Youn has a certain unique artistic style to her sculpting, and that probably is what gives some similarities to all of her beautiful sculpts. At any rate, I feel there are enough subtle differences to Mano, that the new Elf will work nicely for my (non related to Luis) character. I do wish there were some blank faced photos of the elf to look at too, because it's always great to be able to see the pure, unadorned sculpt with nothing to distract.

*whew* Am relieved that Luis isn't going anywhere. ^^

It is SO hard to tell facial differences when there's a faceup on-- so many illusions are made by painting & blushing. There are things you think are part of a doll's sculpt until you wipe his faceup off, & find out it was all a trick of the light caused by the paintjob. I won't even try to guess about Elf Mano, because his face has so much stuff going on around it in that picture: lipgloss, bright lips, lots of hair, the lighting, etc. Aah, besides, he has his own discussion thread.

But I gotta agree, it sure DOES look like he has less of a divot in his lower lip! Unless that's a trick of the shiny pink paintjob, too. I just didn't think there was enough paint in the world to hide that divot.

I LOVE those new Eyeco snake-and-dragon eyes! Our friend Hombre could totally rock those eyes. Makes me wish I had a dragon-Mano... but I don't think those are Stavros's style. (Perhaps my merman will like them instead. ^^) Eyeco's own site has domestic-US shopping, by the way: http://www.eyecoltd.com/ They're in sunny Arizona.

So, for their odd-number sizing system, it's 1mm above (like Masterpiece's)? Thanks for the tip! I was going to guess that the 11mms would be the size we want for Mano. Now I know it's the 13s.


Luminaire, did you actually take the string out of the head-bar? I found Mano easy to unstring-- start at the feet & work your way up, and leave the string attached to the head-bar. Unless you're replacing it, in which case you'd be cutting it off anyway. For re-stringing, the only tricky bit was that his channels are reeeeally narrow. I have a stringing-hook, and still had to do a lot of fancy squeezing & praying to get his arms back together... You are some kind of super-power, if you did that all with ribbons & bag-ties!

No wonder you're tired. Hikaru's Sexy Muscle Chest[tm] debut photoshoot will just have to wait. *sigh* But do beep us when it's ready!

 

Vanilla, I have been eyeing Eyeco lately, I wanted some of their realistic
eyes for my Paris, but never did get around to order them. ^___^;;
I believe the only urethane eyes I've seen that have pupil-less
selections are EA? But I'm not sure they have the right shade of green
I need for Hombre, I'll have to check.


JennyNemesis, thanks for all the links. I'll need to check EA, maybe they
might have what I need after all. Are Soom soft-glass eyes, silicon? Their limegreen
Nadas look very close to the color I'm looking for, I had actually thought about
those before, only they not as glow-y as what I need - but might work as temporary eyes
if all else fails.

It would be great if Eyeco did release some pupil-less eyes, their squishiness would
almost a sure a close fit. The ones Hombre has right now are kind of pupil-less but they
are glass, and have high-domes, so they leave a disturbing gap -- and they are blue to top things off. T__T;;


earth.spirits, I love those dragon pupils, my other resin-kids usually wear the slited-eyes because
they're from a vampire clan of "tigers." Hombre is actually from the same clan, but he lost
his pupils do to desertion, so no pupils for him. ^_____^;;;

JennyNemesis, there is not enough paint in the world to hide that divot in Mano's lip (check
Hombre's new face, I accidentally added too much "pearl-y" powder so the gloss is thick!). I think
the Elf Mano is very different, but like you suggest, it could be just all the "make-up" and lights.
I'll try to do a photo-manipulation of both, and see what I can uncover, I'll post if I find anything
worth sharing. :3
