Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. Discussion thread for Limhwa Limho Mano

May 21, 2007

    1. Anyone successfully removed the bar from Mano's neck? I want to make
      a few pieces for him, that will need to be slipped down his neck, but having
      the back of the cranium there doesn't allow them to slip through. I don't
      want to have to unstring Hombre every time I want him to wear turtlenecks,
      for example. I don't like making things that have closures on the back either,
      it makes it seem like they are 'baby' clothes, it gives me this weird feeling. XD

      Would using that Volks' ceramic knife work? Has anyone tried that? It's kind
      of annoying that it was glued in the first place, I don't see the point -- not that
      I love Hombre any less, but it's frustrating not to be able to make the clothes I
      want for him because of that little impediment there. >_<;

    2. According to Catrina the little bars were coming undone or slipping out of place during past shipments, so I guess the artist started glueing them to the headback during this last order period. I have not tried to remove it since it is super glued in, don't know if anyone else has had luck removing it or not.

    3. Hey Enzyme, is it epoxied or hot-glued? If it's hot-glued, maybe you can melt it out with a few short blasts of the hairdryer, or a mini screwdriver that's been heated in a flame.

      If it's epoxied in, you probably have to scrape it out. I'd start with an X-Acto knife, I guess, since it's nice & fine.

      The ceramic knife might work; it scrapes resin so easily, probably works the same on epoxy. But it's not such a good shape for scraping with a fine point... at least the one I have, which is shaped like a chisel, more suitable for scraping with a broad edge. (Also the Volks cera-kana is like $30, as opposed to those good old cheap aluminum X-Actos. ^^)

      I don't have any trouble getting stretchy turtlenecks or tight shirts over that 'skull-piece' on Stavros... in fact, I LOVE that you can just pop his face off & dress him in difficult things! However, I agree, having that bar be removable would be great if you had a reeeally narrow neckline, or delicate fabric. Maybe you could change it to an S-hook...?

    4. Deriland, I see, there was a point to them glueing it in place then.
      But, they could have hot-glueded the bar instead -- that way it
      wouldn't get lost, but it would still be removable. ^-^;;

      JennyNemisis, it's not hot-glued, it would have been easy to remove the
      bar if that was the case. I think it's some kind of cement? I've never seen epoxie
      so maybe that's it? Not sure, it's clear but it's solid unlike silicon (hot-glue).
      I tried scraping with my X-acto knife, but no luck so far. I'm scared of accidentally
      going too far into the resin and damaging the neck, if I try piercing whatever bonding
      agent is holding it there. $30 for a knife doesn't sound that bad, the real problem will be if
      it will actually work, otherwise I'll just have a $30 item that's good for nothing -- not that
      I don't have many of those around... ^_____^;;;

      Guess my plans of having Hombre wearing sheer, none-stretch turtlenecks will have to wait. XD

      Thanks for your advice, anyway. I'll go look at those Volks' knifes now.

      - Enzyme ^______^

    5. I'm pretty sure it's super glue or similar. Very carefully applied acetone could remove it.

    6. Acetone? Yes, I don't believe I have the guts to try. Thanks for the
      suggestion Luminaire, always good to have more advice. ^.^

      I think maybe the Zoukei-mura Ceramic Knife with the narrow blade,
      might work, seems to have a sharp tip -- maybe even the crescent blade one.
      I'll have to check Volks USA, I don't want to pay 30 for shipping!
      Now, that I do mind paying $30 for, unless it was for a doll, EMS
      shipping for a knife would be a bit too much, for my brain to approve. ^___^;;

    7. am I the only one who have a little problem with wig cause Mano's ears a bit higher than expected?

    8. :lol: No, his ears are sticky-out, and his head is tall & pointy! Wig-bands just hate to fit over his ears. :P

      Iplehouse's fur wigs (size L) have notches cut for the ears, which I love. And it's shaped tall & narrow too, a great fit. That's what I have Stavros wearing at the moment. He also wears a shaggy-dreadlock fur wig which doesn't fit over his ears, but which at least HIDES the bad fit!

      For a Mano who wants nice smooth hair, I don't know what you'd do. ;;

    9. Custom wigs perhaps?

      Since he is my first and only 60+cm doll I have no other wigs to fit on him. XD He's pretty well stuck with the one he came with for who knows how long. Its a good thing I love his current wig. XD Well, even though it was made for him sometimes it can be a pain to get it to sit right on his head. He's also the only one of my dolls to have velcro.

    10. I didn't even think to try any wigs on him XD; (since I'm horrible and just stole his body :eusa_sile) But I just grabbed his floating head here and slapped the first wig on him I thought would fit, (which conveniently was sitting right beside him in my sale pile. Three cheers for being lazy! >.>) and it seems to be a perfect fit. :o It's an Iplehouse 8-9 and doesn't seem to have any problems with his big ears.

      Hopefully that will be helpful to some of you. :)

    11. I had that same prolem a few hundred-pages back, but
      no one else seemed to have that problem. I think his ears
      are okay, just that his cranium is not tall enough from his ears,
      to the top of his head, so wigs don't sit well enough on his head.
      All the wigs I own don't seem to sit well on his head, unless they have
      small caps. I have an 8-9 Kon'D wig for Lati, that belongs to my Paris,
      it fits great on him, because it has a very short/small wig cap -- problem is,
      it's black, and Hombre has blue hair. ^____^;; I would recommend their
      wigs though, they fit really good on Mano's short skull, and have many
      styles and colors, just not the blue I need for Hombre. You might need
      some thing to hold it on, but it rests nicely on his head, instead of making
      him look like he has a lump on the top of his head. ^____^;;

      I think smaller sizes would fit well on him, if the caps are stretchy enough.
      I would try my 7-8 wigs on him, but they belong to my Mo, and I don't want to
      strech them -- he has a tiny head, and most of his wigs fit just about right on him,
      don't want to accidentally widen them, just for tying them on Hombre. ^-^;;

      - Enzyme ^_____^

    12. I think Hombre needs a nice lush custom-built blue wig for him, and his very own velcro strip. <3 Nothing's too good for him.

      @Vanilla, seriously, Velcro really does hide a ton of ill-fitting wig problems! Even if a wig fits badly, it'll stay on him. And if you stick the Velcro-fuzzy part inside the wig, then it will stick to the Velcro-hook part on top of his head, & avoid that "lump" problem you see so often.

    13. I bought silicone caps for dollies (don't wanna say how much it cost with shipping to my far far away place), using them now and I have to cut it a bit for Mano's ears)
      JennyNemesis, thank you, I will try Iplehouse one day! Just have to pay out all that wardrobe I ordered for dolls at first...
      Enzyme, I will try 7-8 size later on him! just it's not his style - with bangs and black with blue) We are kind of blond)

    14. I purchased Emile's fur wig from Sunny's Wonderful World on ebay and it fits him like a glove!

    15. Wow, that's such a sweet thing to say! But, really he doesn't need anything
      special, or custom-made It's just that I'm a weirdo and seem to like the oddest of
      things -- midnight-blue doesn't seem to be a popular BJD-hair color. ^___^;;

      Vanilla, all of my 7-8 wigs are red, because my Mo is a redhead! He's Hombre's
      13-year-old half-brother, but Hombre went blue after being exiled from their clan, so he
      can't go back to red now -- oh, the quirks of having weirdo, super-detailed character dolls. ^____^;;;
      I can't wait to see what your Mano looks like, I'm dying of curiosity! Blonde seems to
      be a popular hair-color for Mano, I think most of the few I've seen in the galleries, are blonde --
      it truly does suit the more gentler look the sculpt has. As for Hombre, he's a mean one,
      so the dark-blue suits him just fine. XD

      arrowchild, I look forward to seeing your Emile in his new wig! I'm sure he looks gorgeous!

      - Enzyme ^.^

    16. Thanks Enzyme!! But it's his good ol' stand-by wig that's from there :) Although...now I'm tempted to try some of my other wigs on him just for kicks...

    17. Stavros just happens to be wearing one o' those nice Iplehouse fur wigs here, in these month-old pictures that I've finally posted. <3
      http://www.denofangels.com/forums/showthread.php?t=218949
      (I'm finally getting a sense of what size clothing he wears for everything... for the first time, he's wearing an outfit where everything fits him perfectly. ^^)

      I forgot about those silicone caps! I bet they would be a big help for Mano's odd-shaped head, and you can cut out ear-notches. Great idea. I've never tried them before, because they seem so thick-- isn't it difficult to get the wig on, & adjust it? Or do they make narrow heads easier to deal with?

      (@Enzyme, I adore blue wigs. <3 The best ones I have are from Kstarr and Hairstar, oddly enough! No kidding, it's not easy to find good blue wigs; these both fell into my hands by accident at swapmeets or as gifts.)

    18. Just don't keep those silicone caps on too long, there was a post about them staining not too long ago.

      *oogles Stavros* *fans self* Too hot I need ice! Ice I tell you! :D

      That wig is really gorgeous. o.o I love it's tecture, looks so damn soft. *pets and fluffs it* XD

    19. I have recently fallen in love with mano. I have not ordered him yet. I have to save up the money. Can anyone tell me if dollmore model would doll work? I worry about the regular SD Adam being too short on the legs and arms.

    20. Work in what respect?
