Discussion thread for Limhwa Limho Mano

I can't wait to see him, teysa! I also find my self discovering new
things about Mano, whenever I work on him! He is truly
a gorgeous, gorgeous piece of art-work! His hands specially,
they are the most beautiful, elegant hands I've seen in the BJD-world. ^________^

I've finished him , although he is waiting for his wig that is in the mail. He came with default face-up and I felt so guilty removing it (when I was planning on ordering from company I was going to order with no face-up to avoid this) It was beautiful, but had red eyebrows, which just wouldn't work and I couldn't just remove them so I had to redo whole thing *sigh* I have so much to learn about painting tiny faces, but he looks like himself now. I'm heading to the gallery to try to learn how to post an image now . . .

 

Oh noes, isn't it possible to remove just the eyebrows?

Bummer, I ordered my Mano with faceup with the intention of changing the eyebrows, had I known I'll have to scrap the whole face I could have saved some money....

 

vanityfairy: maybe you can if you are more careful than me . . . but it was my first time and I ended up smudging everything . . . so, it just didn't work for me . . .

Edit: the lips especially could have been left i think, but by then I was a scrubbing demon. He was coated and (maybe it was just the method I was using, their were a few in the face-up removal thread ) but I could see the edge where the coating still was vs where I had removed it and it drove me nuts . . .

I just looked up remove eyebrows in the painting customizing forum, wish i would've taken time to look earlier, but the is a thread called partially removing a face-up, it showed up about halfway down the page (i don't know how to link) It could have been helpful

 

If the person who asked the question is still interested in knowing about defaults/custom faceups. Hikaru is default faceup as well. I liked the way the default is painted, and I'm too much of a procastinator to paint him myself. Hikaru would of been naked for months and months no doubt....aside from the lack of clothes. XD

I've done only a handful of my own faceups and they're very simple ones too. I lack a variety of paints so if I did do my own faceup on Hikaru it would have no shine, no metallic paints, no gloss. Which is not a bad thing as that leads to a very natural look, but I like the shine he has now. XD

Its all good, defaults and customs both look wonderful on the Mano's sculpt.

 

I redid Hombre's face-up, I think I royally-scr*wed his eyebrows,
I was trying to make them fuller, and darker-looking, not thicker and
horrid. U_u;; But I've learned my lesson, I won't be redoing his face
until I can buy myself new hands... XD Photos of him, and his awesomely
bad eyebrows here.

Anyone else having trouble painting a lip-parting line on Mano's
awesomely fatty-licious-lips, or is it just my great-miniaturist-skills
at work here, causing me trouble? >_<;;

I had a ton of trouble with the lip part. I couldn't get it in the right place without hitting the sides of the lip with the brush, the space was too narrow for me, even with my tiniest brush . . .

 

That's the same issue I have. Even my smallest
of tiniest-brushes can't get in there, without touching
the lips. U_u;; I've thought of sanding a bit, but the
thought of modding Hombre scares me, what if I
leave him with no lips (I'm clumsy that way)! O__o;;
My shaky-pulse-of-doom, doesn't help one bit either. T_T;;

If only Limwha hadn't given Mano such lovely-meaty-lips. XD

Long time since I last checked into this thread. Still hope to get a Mano someday. He is such a lovely boy. Enzyme, I am really wishing for some more Hombre spam from you. That last face-up you did was great, he is very enchanting. I hope to make my Mano as intriguing to look at as yours.

I&#8217;ve been lazy lately, haven&#8217;t made any new clothes for any of my dolls. ^-^;;
I was actually waiting to get my MP-custom eyes, I got for Hombre, so that
I could take &#8220;family&#8221; portraits of him, and his younger half-brother, but things
don&#8217;t always go as planned (curse MP, and their deceitful-ways!). I got some DIY-
eyes, if those get here anytime soon, I might make temporary eyes for Hombre with
those, then I&#8217;ll spam him as usual (I&#8217;ve been meaning to redo his face, but again,
I&#8217;m such a lazy person. Maybe I&#8217;ll do that first). XD

I hope you get your Mano soon, I always search for Mano-shots in the galleries, but
rarely see any (other than mine XD). I would love to see custom-faced-up ones mostly
(I like Limhwa&#8217;s defaults, but there seems to be &#8220;many-more&#8221; of those already)!
Alas, Mano(s) are just too &#8220;unusual,&#8221; to be seen much (I guess). ^ ^;;

Another Face-up! The one you have now is so good, it&#8217;s so dreamy. O&#8217;well, I&#8217;m sure your next one will be even better. I look forward to seeing his new eyes, MP eyes are beautiful. I do find eyeco to be more reliable, but unfortunately with less selection.

I&#8217;ve been meaning to make cloths for my Narae for the last five months so I can spam her. I&#8217;ve only gotten her up once, and she certainly deserves to be spammed more, but I just haven&#8217;t gotten around to it. I know how it goes. There always seems to be something else to do, and there are too many dolls for me to cloth.

I plan on doing a custom face-up for him. I do with all my dolls. Limwha&#8217;s default is lovely, but not suited to the character I have in mind. Custom face-up really do give new perspectives on sculpts.

I think Hombre always looks great! But that's just me. He's lucky he isn't Tan, though -all those faceups would scrub his tan off by now

That cavernous space between the lips does take a lot of shading. I used pastels, for Stavros... Dark brown with a little black in it. It took a lot of layers, but there was no problems with 'overspill'. I find pastel powder SO much easier to handle than paint [rank amateur ^^]. You do still need a tiny brush, though.

Now, if he had /teeth/ to paint? Ack! Streaks on the lips whenever you try to remove the brush from the mouth. Drive you batty. So let's all give a moment of thanks that Mano has no teeth.

 

Haha, teefs. I really hope I get some shots of my boy soon, I sent him off for a new face-up, so then we can have some more non-default Mano pics floating around. It's the first time I've been "away" from him ;_; pathetic I know, but I do miss my big guy (though he will shortly be overshadowed by a certain Iple tank). Well, at least my big guy having a face. Got a nice faceless body, in pants, under some summer dress fabric (for my Half Elf) on the couch.

JennyNemesis, I sometimes fear that his face will start melting
away, even if he&#8217;s not tanned. XD I&#8217;ve redone his face so many
times now, I&#8217;m scared to try again. But I suck so bad at painting
eyebrows, I must try again (at least one more time, maybe after
that I&#8217;ll finally give up!). ^____^;;; Thank you so much for your

Custom face-ups are always so interesting, but I do have a fondness for the defaults on the Manos. Probably because its like having one more personal touch from the artist.

Perhaps, someone will be giving Hikaru a new face-up if/when he leaves my hands. Though I really can't imagine why when its still so perfect after 4 years and counting. XD Kind of feels like after four years the original run in their original face-ups are pretty scarce around here.

Who else thinks the To-L's look like the lovechild of Mano and Mono?

Actually, when I found a picture of a blank Limhwa Eva last weekend I thought she looked like a lovechild of Mano and Mono.

I think Eva came out before Mano, didn&#8217;t she?
That would make Mano a &#8220;lovechild&#8221; of Mono (if he&#8217;s
old enough XD), and Eva, but I&#8217;m not very good remembering
release dates, that long ago in the past. >_<;;

I&#8217;ve modded my Mano&#8217;s nose (just ever so slightly, I hope!),
because I was always tempted to, but never had the guts
until two-days ago, when I redid his face. I think he does look a
lot like To L, just his nose and lips are the most notable differences (IMHO). ^_____^

Eva came out after Mano I believe, (I remembering having a...'wow-female Mano' moment when she was released lol).

And...you really must show off your mod and your boy's new face Enzyme!
