Discussion thread for Limhwa Limho Mano

Yeah, I know of it, but since one of his legs' notch is slightly shallower than the other that feature only works if he's naked. And if I can get his hips to cooperate. Getting him to sit is a pain, but he can do it.

I don't mind that he can be difficult to pose, he's still my favorite to photograph. I really do want to get him a friend like Mano Elf someday. Although, for awhile I thought I would have to sell my collection, but things worked out.

Sometimes, when I really think about it, I'm still amazed that I was ever able to get Hikaru...

 

Actually, it is "fact" that Mano has some string/slot issues. I find it happens with most companies though; the way the slots are shaped really has a huge effect on how well a doll poses. Just a few minor alterations and any doll could sit like a dream. It's a shame that once a sculpt it done it seems to be done with no chance of revision.

Sky, my lovely Mano boy did have the sitting down problem. The actual problem is not so much that the sitting mechanism is too shallow or the slots too small as it is that the slots (in his thigh piece/hip piece) are too big.

I don't have my guy on hand to check out the exact mods my friend (Starfighter here on DoA) did on him but from what I remember:
-He put some styrofoam into Sky's torso piece (with holes for stringing -lined with hot glue/or a cut apart drinking straw to prevent the string damaging the hole) and did some glue sueding around the torso joint where it meets with the crotch piece. Much like Hound, my Mano had the dreaded and annoying (and painful) hip pop. If I try to pull that joint apart, it takes a fair bit of effort XD.
This keeps his body aligned and not all crazy popping out. Not so much a solution for the sitting problem.

-The other 'mod' so to speak was to put styrofoam in the crotch piece's leg openings. These pieces force the stringing toward the back (I think -until October 9th when I get home I don't have the doll on hand to check) which enables him to sit properly even with pants on.

I'll try and get pictures once I get home and can pull Sky out of his box if anyone would like to see. The 'mods' really don't take too long and aren't that hard to do. For a little effort, Mano can really pose like a dream :3 (even with that weird sort-of leg length difference Sky has). I think I need to do this to my Half Elf as well; so this particular issue may be something that's applicable to all of LimHwa's bodies.

 

Yes, please do show the mods on Sky! I'd love to see what was done. ^_^

Yeah, my Hikaru has a slight difference in the length of his legs as well. Kind of like a real human isn't it? Our limbs aren't exactly the same either! lol

 

Friend of mine mods the inside waist-piece of all her Dollshes... how to describe it... sort of a funnel-shaped sort of apoxie extension.... so that the waist-piece doesn't even try to pop out of the hip-piece nearly as often, & the narrower opening serves a sort of "guide" for the leg strings. (Uhh, that probably doesn't make much sense in writing. I should ask her for photos. ^^) She says half of his problem is that the vertical strings are kind of just freestylin' it inside his body cavity, so they're not always finding their own way to the slots in his legs. Anyway, I might ask her to see if she can build one of those waist-extension-things for Stavros, if she can match the tan resin. Sounds like Starfighter's styrofoam trick might be taking a similar approach.

I'm kind of leery to do anything funky to Stavros because of ye olde special resin color. And truthfully, I don't ask him to do exotic poses very often. He mostly stays at home & gets a lot of close-up nude photos! It's more when I bring him out to meet people, & they pick him up in their arms & all his pieces-and-parts try to escape at once... ... the LOOK on their faces, it's like they're holding an armful of live fish...

PS Yes, luminaire, I too have noticed that "realistic" uneven-leg-length issue, which is only charming until you try to stand him up. ^^ (I find that using big wide heavy boots, like SD16 or DM Model, really help with the standing! If your guy happens to be into boots, that is.)

 

Indeed so, indeed so, I just remind myself of that so I don't get too annoyed by it. XD I'm sure alittle sanding would go a long ways towards fixing the uneven length, but I'm one of those thats afraid to do anything I'll regret.

I really really do want to get him some of those boots, or even that DZ Silver Fox outfit w/the lace-up boots. Still a long way from having any extra money for dollstuff these days, but at least I am almost done paying off my hospital bill so having some extra money again isn't too far off. *crosses fingers* Soon soon my pretties I'll be able to play again. Muwhahahaha

The leg socket circles glued in. Note that the 'grubby' bit around the top of the hip piece is hot glue sueding; this will also help to keep him from hip popping.



This is looking into the ab piece (which I realised was the better name after captioning the photo). This is looking 'up' from the bottom or, where the abs meet the hips.



This is looking down into the ab piece (here is where it meets the actual 'chest' piece sorry for my poopy labeling ). You can see the styrofoam is just about touching this 'gate' part. Also, here's where to align the holes.

Sitting in the nude. You can't quite see it from this angle but his leg "shelf" (as I call it) is now sitting properly against his bum, letting him sit sturdily with ease.



And with 4D Cassia or Flax (I can't remember) pants on.​

What sort of foam is that, btw? Anything exotic/ specific?

 

That looks great! If my Mano wasn’t blushed, I would probably try it myself
(can’t imagine how much longer it would take to clean him with additional
stuff inside of him ^ ^;;.).

The styrofoam was nothing special. I think my friend used the foam from his PS3's original packaging XD.

No problem guys , I hope this helps people who have trouble with their guys. I know how much posing issue can affect overall bonding/happiness with the doll and I'd hate to see the poor Manos getting "orphaned" for a fixable problem :3

Aww! That IS sad! I think I'll always have a soft spot for Mano's-my Emile was my first and I still love him to bits!

I really do hope she comes out with another male doll as well. Her girls are very pretty, don't get me wrong, but her male sculpts are stunning.

 

Awwww~! No more Mano? That is such a shame! I hope she does keep at least ONE mature male sculpt in regular circulation. The girls get all the glory. ;;^^ And Mano is so gorgeous.

(And I hope she is not discontinuing little-brother Mono any time soon, either; I still have this recurring fantasy that I'll get one someday.)

 

Curses, just when I was hoping on getting at least two more Manos,
for their bodies! T_____T;;;; I hope Limhwa doesn't stop making male-dolls
altogether! I don't believe I'll have enough $$$ left to get even one Mano,
this year (with X-mas and all). Of course, it always happens to me... U_u;;;

Mono has always been in my wish-list as well, I hope they don't discontinue him
as well!

I'll have more info for you guys soon. What happened is her casting place ran low on French resin, just as she had decided to discontinue a few older things. I don't want to cut people off of getting a FR Mano or some of the other dolls, so I'm seeing if we can take orders for those one last time in all resin options.

And I'm also sad about Mano.. but she's got a new line of 10 inch girls and it's too much for her to keep a large lineup.

 

I have wanted a Mano Elf for a long time, but I never see them on the MP and I cannot justify spending the money right now on one-we are having a garage built and all our extra funds have to go to that. So I guess I'm out of luck. Maybe down the road I'll do a WTB on the Marketplace and see if my boy is out there second-hand.

 

there are some people in the Marketplace begging for one. Thank goodness I had the foresight to grab three Manos (being selfish but I don't care, heheh)!! Two Tan, one I'm still waiting on the mailman for is NS. Mano is the only male sculpt I like! I could just hug and squeeze them to death, but they get that pouty look on their faces when I try!!

 

That's so sad that Mano is being discontinued. I adore Luis, my Mano, and am very glad to have him in my crew, he's definitely a main muse for me.
