I have completely transformed my collection twice and my first doll was sold when I transitioned from a mix of MSDs and SDs to only SDs. I feel like there were things about that doll that I loved, and he was the right doll at the right moment when I started the hobby but as I grew and changed he wasn't what I needed creatively. I think the bigger mistake I made was to try to change/mod him to make him fit what I wanted at the time (a more mature mini, which at the time wasn't being made) and then tried to get a bigger size of him (which there wasn't enough variety out there at the time to accomplish). It was an early lesson in how I need to trust that feeling when something isn't working.
I literally only started in December and I'm already not sure. I got my first bjd, resinsoul xun for my birthday. I was enamored of her until I got my 2nd for christmas, a myou Vieurodis. I'm shocked at how much more better a poser she is, so I'm considering getting a different 1/4. But then I love the tan of my xun, and I was slightly dissapointed at how *white* the myou normal skin actually was...So I don't know haha. i love them both for different things, but neither is *perfect*. Finances will tell me if I sell them on my journey to the perfect dolls, or if I just try again next time and let the collection grow.
I did sell my very first doll that I got when I was 14. When I was graduating high school, she stayed in a drawer and I never brought her out, it only made sense to me at the time to sell her. If I could, I wouldn’t have sold her. My msd that got me back into the hobby, though, I don’t believe I would sell him unless I decided to own less dolls. I have a list in the back of my head of dolls I -have- to keep no matter what, and he’s not on that list. I love him though.
I sold my first two dolls. A part of me still kind of regrets it (nostalgia and all that), but the cons outweighed the pros. I found that 1/3 size was too big for my taste, but I feel better knowing that a lot of people have gone through the same realization, that 1/4 or smaller is a better size. At least I'll always have the photos to look back upon! ^^
