1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Do/Did you keep your very first doll? Or will you sell it?

Aug 12, 2009

    1. My short answer to this is yes, but my long answer is no.:

I had him for four and a half years, but I just recently sold my first doll. Or rather, his first shell. the hobby was alot different back in the day and now that more companies and sculpts and especially bodies have become available, it really made me realize the doll (SD13 Kohya, my favourite Volks mold) wasn't suitable for a 30 year old man.

I'm still keeping the 'doll', though. He's just being upgraded to a larger, more mature looking make. Selling the old shell was necessary both to bring him home in his new one, and because I couldn't possibly use the doll for anything else, since I'd had him so long and couldn't picture him another way.

I'm looking forward to Phir's return, but a part of me will definitely miss his first mold. My Kohya was a treasure to me. I hope the girl he's with now will enjoy him the way I have. :3

    2. Awww man, you must be a cool adult :D

    3. Ahahaha, thank you. That's a huge compliment! I'd say that I'm mature for my age, but that I also have much more maturing to do in my future before I consider myself a total 'grown up'. c:

I'm twenty-one. I've just been in this hobby for a really long time. I took a hiatus for two years, but when I came back, everything had changed considerably, and I realized that change would be good for me, too. :) I'd had doubts about the mold before, but I'd been so hellbent from change that I overlooked it for quite a long time, and because I was very fond of (and still am fond of) my Kohya.

In the end, I'm glad I took the plunge. When he comes back, Phir will be 300 times better, and I wouldn't've had much time for my gorgeous Kohya after that, anyway. He would've been completely overshadowed, so it's best for him that he went where he is now. :3

    4. I've still got Tsukasa, my first boy, he's a DZ Megi. I will absolutely never part with him, he is really special to me because I attained him finally a couple of years ago after wanting a BJD for like, 6 years. He'll always hold a special place in my heart.

    5. i kept the head, which has changed personalities over the past couple of years, but i traded the body to a friend of mine.

now poor tracks needs a new body. but he'll have to wait till i get my new girls.

    6. I sold mine... a different mold arrived which was perfect for the character: the original girl got sidelined I'm afraid!

    7. I feel a little bad....but I think I'm going to sell my Sha to be replaced by a new Dollshe Rosen, or a Hound or Husky if I can find one.... because I got so excited about BJD's i just bought one off the first site i saw, and didn't really look at all the options. Sha's are so young and boyish looking, so I think i want something more grown up. i want him in a good home tho....

    8. I sold my first doll. She was a bit of an impulse buy really. I was at a con and she was there and so cute and I had the money. Oh and she was purple (my favorite color). But as it turns out I don't like MSD sized dolls and I have a hard time bonding with girl dolls. I don't regret buying her, I wouldn't be in dolls now if I hadn't, but I don't regret selling her either. I've sold one other doll since. I get very attached to my dolls, if they are the right doll, but if a doll doesn't work I'm not to sentimental to pass them on to a home where they will get love and use the money to buy a doll that will get attention here. Now ask me if I would sell my second doll? He's with me for life.

As for my wedding ring, I'm actually on my second (ring not marriage). My husband is on his third (again rings not marriages) he keeps losing his.

    9. No, I did not keep my first doll. I feel so bad. She has a new mom already and be in good home.:aheartbea:aheartbea

    10. I sold mine first boy, he was a doc Too. I liked him and we did bond in the beginning.
But after a few months I lost interest and the mean reason was that I found him to 'childish' and to small. I wanted to have a more adult looking boy.
I still love Too's but he's just not the right doll for me.

    11. Freya's only four months old, and I love her to bits! And don't plan on selling my future dolls either!:)

    12. Yes and no really...

I love my first doll's head, it's such a cute mischievous image, however her body simply infuriates me to the point of me actually neglecting her a little. This inflicts me with the biggest feeling of guilt ever.

It's down to the annoying unposable, floppy, awkward body she has. An old-style MSD DZ Girl body.

I plan to get her the new MSD DZ girl body to hopefully reignite the love!

    13. yes. I will probably never sell him. He is just aregular mold, he has yellowed like crazy over the years too. But I still think he is my fave!

    14. The only doll I will refuse to sell or change is my first girl. I still have her and I love her to death. She is still the one I feel most comfortable doing dolly things with. It is very rare for me not to bring her along to dolly functions.

    15. Yes my first doll is Cyber Bohemian Shiwoo and I still have him.

    16. My first doll was technically bought for me. I'd feel horrid if I sold him. Besides, he's my second love anyway >3< *intends to buy her first love when she's got a stable job so she'll be able to spoil him right away*

    17. You would have to pry them out of my dead cold hands. I did tons of research before getting my first two girls and with Naraes, there was an instant click. More research later, I got them, knowing everything there was to know about them so there hasn't been any negative surprises. Except maybe that despite the UV cut resin Sayuri yellowed very rapidly in her first few months. I knew she would but I didn't quite expect it to be that fast. Still, yellowed or not, she's not leaving. And neither is Keiko.

    18. Actually, I had a choice between a piece of significant jewelry or my first BJD as a gift from my boyfriend now fiance. So I chose the BJD! Ha-ha-ha. The ring came a year or two later, but I didn't mind. And the funny thing is, even when I go to Volks and I compare her to other Kuns both fresh from the box or on display, I cannot help but feel that my Kun, my first BJD, is sooo special to me. Even if she gets more scratches, or even breaks, I'm keeping her no matter what. <3

    19. I hope not! D: but I haven't gotten her yet, so who's to say?

In my other collection, I did sell my first doll, but she was sold to a good friend, so as someone else has said, she's still in the family, lol :D

    20. Selling my first doll will never happen!

I love my boy. My first was the oversized Dollmore Model M Uri Rich, and I adore him to death! I wouldn't dare sell him for any reason! >w<
