Do you appreciate your dolls less when you have more of them?

Dec 21, 2005

    1. I appreciate every one of my BJDS, Pullips, Apple Dolls. They all have their advantages and each doll has something that made me want it in the first place.

    2. Uhh... I gotta say yeah, I recently got my newest boy, and I've been focusing on him lately and pratically ignoring my other dolls :B *bad owner*

    3. All of my dolls represent specific characters and are all special to me. Llew, my first doll, feels just as special to me now that I have ten dolls as he did when it was just him. I suppose because all of the dolls represent characters that existed before the dolls, I was already living with all of them before. Having the dolls just makes me feel closer to the characters.
I guess if I had a rich friend or family member who kept buying me dolls I didn't really want and I had a bunch because of it, they would seem less special after a while. If I had a great deal of money and bought pretty dolls on impulse on a very frequent basis, maybe they would seem less special; however, I don't think I would do that, even if I could afford it.

    4. Well, my mom always tells me, if I had more dolls, it would be difficult to divide your love among them. I'm still wondering, though...

    5. I fell the same, my limit is 3/4 because I don't feel like I'd be able to ... love ... them as much, for lack of a better word. But I suppose it would depend on how I handle one or two dolls at first.

    6. hmmm....I dont doubt one might be favored more but in the end all of them would be loved, I cant really say until I get my second, but Im sure that would be the case.

    7. I feel like my collection is a bit too full, although I only have 5, and that I'm not spreading the love around enough. Actually, I'd say it's an issue of money, I don't have enough money to spread around them alll, not enough money to buy them all the clothes they want or the wigs that suit them.
I'm considering downsizing, I almost want to start again with a fresh palette, like PoeticSoul but I know that some of my crew will definitely stay!

    8. i spent a long time to think before i buy any dolls. i brough them because i know i will like them for a lomg time. right now i still do not get tired of any of my dolls.

    9. I was thinking of having 6 of them.
Mostly because I wanted to have one gender of each size between mini and large, but then I added two more to that count cos I wanted to customize those two as the nightrunner characters ^^U...
But yes, I think having a lot of them make them more hard to take care of. Personally, I love to sew, for Antheas I sew him at least 20 outfits per year, cos I only have one. But then again, since I'm getting Sebrahn I know that number will decrease half cos I will have to share the sewings with my new doll, and if I get more that number will decrease and decrease and that would just make me sad and lost some of the meaning of buying the dolls in the first place.

    10. I don't have a doll yet, but I don't think you should appreciate them less..I mean they're all different..especially if their characters are well developed..I mean, the more friends you have, you don't appreciate them less...I think if you have a bond with your dolls, you tend to appreciate them more.

    11. I don't appreciate them less, but I find it more stressful to organise them! At the moment I have two SD-sized girls, two Minis and a Yo and that is definitely enough for me. Any more and I would start to dislike how much time they took up. I have had 10 dolls before and it was just far too much.

    12. N-O-P-E...I think I value them more XD im in the process of extending my family now...I have a pullip Taeyang now, and I may be in fact the new proud owner of a DOC purchased right here on DOA, just waiting for confirmations

    13. Somehow I ended up with a horde of dolls & last year realised I simply had far too many. I really culled the herd &, while I still have quite a few dolls, I'm able to give them each more attention now. So I guess that by having fewer they are each more special as I only kept the ones that made my heart beat faster.

I never had a set limit & still don't but I'm much more cautious when adding a new one to my "family." He or she really has to scream at me before I consider buying it. I learned, that at least for me, there is a limit, numerous but still a limit, as to how many dolls I can actually handle at a time & still have a special place in my heart for each one.

    14. mmm yeah I'm trying to set a limit to how many i have already and i don't even own one yet!

I can best link this to my beyblades I own. The first one i got is still my favourite, and i got a couple more, but then i kept buying new ones that i really liked and ended up with way too many. i think it was about 10, then i got another 10 or so from my sister's mate who just didnt want them anymore.

i ended up being unable to pay attention to all of them, and pretty much focused on 5 and the rest neglected :(

Using this, i know that when i set a limit to how many dolls i am going to have, that i need to stick to it, and don't buy too many to bond with. having said that. i can't really afford many either! so hopefully I won't have too much trouble with buying too many. ill just find others that own the ones i like and cuddle those ones instead :)

    15. There are three dolls that I currently want- Kasi Dan, and boy and girl Vian, all on Dollmore. I limit myself to four dolls. I save that fourth spot in case I get a doll that I just WOW at. I probably prefer her to be a girl~.
Because of in particular individual care, maintenance and all the clothes being just a little pricey, along with wigs, I refuse to get any more dolls than that. I want to be able to give each of those four dolls their individual attention.
Honestly, I really doubt I'm ever gonna get more than three. Three is good for me, it's a magical number. A fourth spot is just in case I flip out and go WOWOHMYGOD one day about something.
So yes, I do believe that if I had too many dolls, not enough attention would go around. I'd rather have just a few well dressed dolls than like 15 half naked ones. :3

    16. When I first got into the hobby it was right after my Father passed away, and I just started buying a bunch of dolls left and right and it got out of hand very quickly. I remember I had some dolls that I hadn't even taken out of thier boxes and I even had girl dolls which are not a preference of mine. That said, I grew very bored very quickly. I decided to sell all of them and wait a couple of years and start again slowly with what I really wanted. I am thrilled with my family of 16 now, and don't plan to go over 20 ever!!!

    17. Nowadays, I don't have a set limit of how many dolls I want to have (I used to before when I started: I wanted 3, and now ended up having 3 times as much :XD:). But having that many doesn't mean I appreciate them any less and favour one over the other. They all have their pros and cons, and their little quirks that make it a joy to spend time with them. It's always on my mind which doll doesn't seem to be getting any new item and I make an effort to rectify that.

    18. I don't have a numerical limit, but I know that I can't handle too many as well. My limits were, as long as they all inspire love and devotion out of me, and I never forget them, then they belong with me.

Otherwise, it's a no. If you have that nagging feeling in your head that you shouldn't get that doll because it's not quite right for you, listen to that feeling. If not? Then scrap that 5 doll limit and go get yourself some resin!!

    19. Nope-- 31 dolls & 5-1/2 years later, I love every one of these bastards just as much as I did the day they arrived. :aheartbea Love isn't a finite thing, so there is always plenty to go around. It's merely the attention that gets doled out, because I am only one person. Play with whomever you want whenever you want, as much or as little as you feel up to, love the collection one doll at a time, and relax about it. They're dolls, they're not going anywhere.

      Nutshell!

    20. If anything it would make them mean more to me. Its just so breath taking to take in ALL the amazing dolls you own! I only have two, but the second didn't affect my relationship with the first, and I think they're both very amazing pieces of art im very lucky to own. I don't have a limit, but I rather not have over 20 at any point.
