1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Do you collect furniture/props or room settings for your dolls??

    1. Where you find your items!! I love them!!

    2. Some custom-made furniture. The shelving my job. The typewriters I decorated from plastic music box. Miniatures I buy everywhere.

    3. I buy some props if I fall over them, but I don't make rooms for the dolls. I have a shelf for the dolls but I don't have any props on that shelf. I only use them in photoshoots from time to time but making rooms for the dolls is not something I do.

    4. I have gotten some furniture for my dolls and was planning on getting more. Since all my dolls are Sd size, I realized space would be an issue, so I just stuck with what I have. As far as props go, I have a guitar and a birdcage with a bird in it. All my dolls have an animal spirit guide - mostly stuffed animals.

    5. @yamalskaya that room you made is amazing, I love how you built and arranged the shelves yourself! Fantastic work! :D

I have started collecting a few 1/3 scale pieces and man... it is difficult to find really good work in that scale. Even if price were no obstacle, the scarcity of the existence of highly refined 1/3 furniture is. People make extremely fine work for 1/12 scale and even 1/6 scale, pieces of miniature furniture so accurate, so delicate, so detailed as to virtually indistinguishable from real human furniture in photos.

And then you get to 1/3 scale and it's... well, you can find stuff that technically sort of fits, but it is nowhere near the same quality; the proportions tend to be clunky and child-like (often because these are intended for children, not for collectors, or for dolls of very squat proportions like porcelain dolls, teddy bears), the detail's not great, the overall structure is just... off. I will say it's at least relatively easy to find accurate looking windsor chairs and ladderback chairs but as I am not much of a fan of that furniture style, it doesn't help me.

I'm not even satisfied with the Volks furniture, honestly. Still too chunky.

But, I plan to keep hunting and hope to have a small diorama space someday. I have fortunately located a few makers of custom furniture and made inquiries, and although the victorian couch I plan to commission will cost as much as a doll itself, I feel it will be worth the money.

    6. This is the problem I have a lot too. Almost everything out there is either childish and bulky, or just not a style I like. A big problem is everything is so short! A bed or couch is typically at least up to an adult human's knee, but so many doll couches or beds are basically like sitting on the floor for them. All of my dolls are modern characters, and the old fashioned "granny" style or elegant Victorian type things just don't work for me either. My dad owned a furniture store for many years, so I'm a little extra picky on realism. I do occasionally get him to make things for me when he asks what I want for holidays. So far, I've got a couple of really nice beds, a couch and a coffee table, and he made a chest of drawers for my sister's doll in exact 1/3 scale. I've begged him to start a BJD furniture shop on Etsy now that he's retired and has too much free time, but he refuses, saying he only likes to do it for fun and he doesn't want to do retail/customer service ever again. :(

    7. I have a bunch of chairs and stools but I ran out of room for them in my room and they're in my storage shed. I pull them out for photos.

    8. Working on an apothecary type shelf for my tiny delf, and I have a couple dressers and a chair. I browse antique shops a lot and find a few gems along the way.

    9. I love miniatures, ever since my parents built me a dollhouse when I was 5. I have lots of props and furniture collected from thrift stores, antique stores, yard sales, online, etc. I'm working on a large diorama setup right now. I have a spare bedroom that is normally off limits to the cat.

    10. some times i do like chair or stairs it helps in photography

    11. I am mainly getting cat or dog furniture as for couches and beds. They are cheap and they work for big dolls. Other than that I have already bought carpet pieces and stuff like that to make full rooms. They will be big but they can be placed on cupboards so they do not take too much space :)

    12. I love getting furniture for my dolls. I often find that dollar stores have things that can work for dolls, but I don't know if that's just limited to Australia. We also have a few DAISO chains here which sometimes have some nice stuff.

    13. I love using props with my dolls, like the alpaca plushie that Cicero has taken a liking to. n_n I'd like to buy more toys for him, as well as proper seating and other types of props (the possibilities are endless, really)

    14. I'm only just getting into this side of dolls. Once I get my two little ones I want to take a shelf for both of them in my room and make them little rooms! My dolls defiantly will have personalities and stories, because that's my first hobby, writing and painting out my worlds and stories! It would be hard for me to not create stories for them! xD I know I'll likely make a lot of it myself. I don't have much money, so while I'm willing to save up for things, I'll likely use that money for: first the dolls, then second clothing, and third material to make my own. (Really want to learn to sew) So furniture and stuff I'll do with random stuff I find laying around! I also found some chairs that are meant to be cellphone holders, but they are perfect for dolls of the 1/6 size! I also have a few random things I found at a craft store!

I can't see buying to many of the proper miniatures, mainly because that is expensive, and I would rather save for clothing, but if I get hooked on making their rooms and find the perfect thing, I just might cave. xD

    15. I have cellphone chairs for my dolls too! I bought a couple of metal and glass IKEA shelving units to be rooms for my dolls. I have an end table I made from scraps of wood and a sectional made from cardboard, foam, and felt. I look for props for them everywhere. Gift shops often have random small things.

    16. I recently found a metal garden chair and a vanity dresser (probably a jewelry box) at a local antique shop that are perfect for my MSD dolls. I did a photo shoot in the backyard with my friend not long after and they looked great. I think I spent less than $10 on both. I actually see a lot of things that are appropriate scale for my SDs and MSDs at thrift and antique stores. :D

    17. While I don't have any BJD dolls yet, when I did play with Barbies and other dolls, I always loved having props, furniture and houses for them as it did make it more personalized and can really set the stage for photographic opportunities (if that's your thing). So I feel like when I do get a BJD that I would probably grab a few props.

    18. Lol, the title of this thread is rather an understatement for me.

I have collected tons of furniture and props, the majority of which are 1/4 BJD scale, and belong to Lue.

The furniture is a mixture of American Girl doll furniture, vintage salesman samples, vintage doll furniture, handmade replica/doll furniture, and creatively shaped jewelry boxes.

Lue currently has his "room" set up on the floor, in one corner of my bedroom. It actually takes up about a quarter of the total room. It started out as a mostly western style room, with a really neat AG bed/ closet/ dressing table unit, and an AG computer desk unit, both of which were painted purple. Lue's favorite color. He also had a small sofa, tables, chairs, etc.

Over the years it has changed, as Lue has become more interested in his Japanese heritage, he has acquired more Japanese props, and Japanese and Asian styled furniture, i.e. a pair of step tansu, floor cushions, futon, etc.

My plan is to eventually turn my late partner's hobby room into a sort of walk in dolls "house", with floor to ceiling shelves divided up into "rooms" and utilizing a lot of Lue's Western style furniture, as well as other doll sized furniture pieces and props I've found. This will be where most of my BJDs will live, and hang out.

However, I also fully intend to have a 1/4 BJD scale Japanese style house built specifically for Lue..... I've got the plans for a 1:12 scale Japanese style doll house which my carpenter friend and I can scale up to 1:4, and then adapt and modify to accommodate Lue's Japanese furniture and props.

I just haven't quite decided where will be the best place to put it yet.

I'm sort of half tempted to try and make it fully weather proof like a real house and build it outside, complete with its own 1:4 scale Japanese style garden, or possibly build it inside its own separate small building, designed on the outside to look like a Japanese tea house. ^_^

    19. If you don't mind me asking where did you find the plans for the Japanese house?

    20. Oh good gracious, do I collect furniture and props...

I acquired a TON of stuff back in the '90s, when I was doing American Girls and other large-size play dolls. If I couldn't find the thing I wanted, then I started building. I kept it up all through college and even after I was married, because that was my hobby. I liked finding stuff that was a little too large for the AG girls, because they're supposed to represent a 9-10 year old child, so it didn't make sense for them to have everything perfectly to their scale. Then the 1/3 BJDs moved in and took over.

I'm constantly on the hunt. I keep an eye out everywhere I go, and have found some really nifty things on keyrings and in gift shops over the years. I love the Holiday time of year, because this a great time to find nice ornaments that are in-scale for a variety of sizes. If one is lucky, there are sometimes kiosks in malls selling nice dolls and accessories for Christmas gifts. I've gotten props there too.

I'm finding the 70cm+ to be the trickiest size to shop for. *sigh* They're a weird in-between scale, or else they're all ridiculously out-sized in my 1/3 world.

      I'm planning on scaling up some Barbie-sized furniture plans and seeing where we can go from there. The lines of the pieces are little Victorian/ old-fashioned, but I think I can make them work with a bold fabric choice. My guys are students primarily, so a hodge-podge of pieces works for them. ^^;

But oh wow, did I ever find out how many furniture pieces and props I acquired when I moved this year! I'm still trying to find places for things!!
