1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Do you ever get scared to order a doll?

Jul 13, 2021

    1. Yes, unfortunately. But I'm trying to teach myself that I'm allowed to buy things for myself and enjoy them.

    2. Yes!!!! I don’t know why but I just generally get really scared over things. And whenever I order a doll I will start to worry about it get lost in the post, or having some problems from the manufacture, or get damaged on the way etc. This doesn’t even stop after I already have my doll with for few days. But these worries has never stopped me from ordering them.

I also get nervous when playing with my doll, I don’t want to accidentally broke them or drop them.

The worst part is when I get super nervous when I’m not around my doll. I always worry about people coming into my room and accidentally broke them, or the radiator is too hot and it damages my dolls somehow.

I think partly for this is because dolls are so expensive.

    3. Yes. I hesitated many times before ordering my Spiritdoll Gardenia. I wanted her of course, but her price (over $900 including shipping) and size (1/2 scale, 75 cm) was daunting for me. I had a fear of spending so much at once and on a doll so large. Eventually I did order her and have no regrets at all.

    4.
    5. Yeah it totally does. Esp since I wont be able to get any sort of buyer protection since waiting for a doll takes long and way past any sort of protection dates. I have even cancelled orders before that way, cos I really wasnt sure if I would even receive the dolls or if the dolls are to expected quality.

    6. Definitely the same! I ordered my first doll in September this year - it’s a small line made by an artist where you get a mystery doll out of a selection of about 5 or 6. It wasn’t expensive so I didn’t worry much about this one (although I did still struggle to press the dreaded ‘complete order’ button as a first time buyer.)

But since then, I’ve realised that I prefer the style of an MSD. That first doll was kind of a way of testing the waters in that he’s smaller and chibi style so he’s easier to explain to others, when in reality I’ve got my eyes set on this new hybrid project. I’ve had his head and body sat in my basket for weeks now but I still can’t press ‘confirm’ so I definitely relate! (Although writing this has made me just want to bite the bullet and go for it!)

    7. I guess if its from a reputable company it is fine. They wouldn't take your $ and not ship your item. But for the dolls that costs a lot, I would worry if I ended up its lost in process or not as expected.

    8. oh yes, it was sold through clover singing so I’m not worried about the doll itself being legitimate. I think it was more so the fact that it was my first doll - I never even had them as a child so it was a strange concept at first!

    9. Yeah I know right, it was very strange concept for me too. Even till now I am a bit hesitant so yeah. Another way is to have lots of communication with the company before hand, if they are very responsive then its good sign.

    10. Maybe not so much scared as "oh my god, I am actually going to spend hundreds of dollars on a doll." I won't buy from companies without a lot of research, so I'm not so worried about the companies dropping off the face of the earth while I wait. I am always concerned with wait times over the paypal protection period, as we all should be. Generally I just won't order from a company if I were to notice their wait time to be over 6 months.

Keep in mind that even legitimate companies can not reputable! Always do your research on the dealer and the original company even if the doll is definitely real.

    11. I'm ordering my first doll in a month or two and I am very nervous about it. I'm ordering directly from the Bobobie website, which I've read is the best move (and to always order directly from the company website if you can), but I've never spent this much money on something that wasn't a necessity and my anxious little head is thinking about all of the things that can potentially go wrong.

What if it gets lost in the mail? What if a careless postman damages my doll before she even gets to me? What if the transaction goes through and money gets taken out of my bank account, but the company says that they've never received an order from me? What if my apartment complex sorts the package into the wrong mailbox?

As with everything that's out of my hands, I'm trying hard not to worry about those things, but it's difficult -- especially since I've never been through this process before, and I don't have any experience at all ordering things from non-US-based websites!

    12. Not anxious or scared, but I’m pretty frugal when it comes to, well, just about everything except dolls :XD:

So I did feel a bit uncomfortable spending so much on them at first. Given how expensive everything in this hobby is, my concept of cheap/normal/expensive has been seriously skewed and now the prices don’t elicit as much of a reaction from me. Which is not exactly a good thing… :chomp:
