1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Do you ever wonder where your sold dolls are now?

Dec 5, 2021

    1. @lucienus I've never seen anyone request the doll keep the faceup and character! I've seen a few people who keep the doll's faceup in the sales photos and say in the description the faceup (and character, I suppose) will be wiped before shipping. I'm not a fan of listings like that, but I definitely wouldn't buy from anyone who would require you to keep their character either. Just keep the doll yourself if you want full control over it!

    2. I somewhat fell out of the hobby back in 2017, so letting go of those dolls was both an immense relief and also helped me financially at the time. I figure this: If I own it and it doesn't click with me, then it will forever sit in my closet and probably just get donated twenty years down the road. As to how some people request not to remove faceups....it's ridiculous. They paid for it; it's their doll. A doll in essence is a reflection of your own character. What one imagines is vastly different from another person. I've personally never seen it, but what people do with their dolls creatively shouldn't be anyone's business.

    3. I once saw a doll listed for sale where the seller required the buyer to keep the doll exactly as he was, with the name and character and everything, and I just found it really strange! Maybe because I'm the total opposite. My dolls represent my role play characters, who are all original characters I created, and I often do wipe a doll before selling because I don't want someone else taking over my character. I also don't see any way that a seller could make a buyer keep a doll as it was sold--once you sell something, the new owner can do whatever they like with it. They could throw it straight in the trash if they really wanted to, it's their property and the seller has the money they wanted from it, done deal. The only way I could possibly seeing that working at all would be if they signed a legal contract when they bought the doll to keep it as is, but who has the time or money for that??

    4. I had a fairyland mir or mika back a while ago...I sold him, the buyer sent me pictures of him in his new outfit but besides that I haven't seen much, I kinda miss him. :']

    5. I sometimes think about it, but I don't give it much importance. The dolls I have sold were the ones that really didn't fit my tastes so I don't really miss them. I think I'm just curious to see if someone saw something in the sculpt I couldn't see.

    6. Nope! If they are gone, they're gone, and I'm happy just to have a satisfactory transaction on both sides. My dolls are not like pets or (still less) like children (I'm not married and don't actually have any children, but I know some people call their dolls their "kids," which is their right, but such terminology is not for me, as inanimate objects are not the same as living beings). Out of respect for the artists who made them, I hope that they are being treated well and that their new owners are enjoying them, but I don't have any interest in keeping up with them once they have been sold.

I only miss one doll that I sold, and in that case, I don't really miss the doll herself, I just miss what she could have been (the skin color was wrong for the character and there were no other options available from the artist, so it was a lost cause).

    7. Aw that's cute that they updated you on him though!

    8. I havent had a doll yet but definitely with other hobbies I'm in! For example, i collect pins. Sometimes it's hard to part and i hope they're well cared for. Once i saw a listing and the pin had the same mark on it as mine did and i was pretty sure that was my exact pin! It was pretty neat.
I feel like i would miss my doll a lot if i ended up selling or trading her. I get very attached. Mostly I'd just want to know they're well cared for :)

    9. I would love to know what happened to my dolls that I sold after I graduated high school!! I often think about them and I’ve come to terms with it being almost impossible for them to pop up for sale in the same state I had them in.

I also tend to look up dolls that I buy secondhand on Flickr and see if I can find the doll’s pictures from their old owner!!
I even saw one of my guys before he was modded to have permanent scars, he was a cutie!!

    10. It's funny because I actually often think of the opposite. I have a few second-hand dolls at this point, and I'll randomly think, "does the owner wonder where that doll is now? Do they still think of this doll time to time? Do they wonder if the doll has found a loving home and is taken care of? "

I wish I could tell all/any of the original owners of my dolls that their doll is very very much loved and cherished <3

    11. II have to make sure I 100% am detached from a doll before I sell, so normally I don't wonder where they are. I do like seeing what other people plan out for my old dolls though!

    12. Yes , a lot of times . I will always think about them especially mymeadow moppet Mae

    13. I don't regret or think on a lot of the dolls I sold in the past, but there is one exception--and this exception is a doll I think about pretty often. I always wonder where she ended up, what she looks like now, and so on. I used to have a gorgeous Tan Pukifee Zoe. The tan was absolutely gorgeous, just a fantastic batch of tan. She was so much fun to pose for photography, as she held her positions extremely well, and I sold her for all the wrong reasons. Once she was sold, I left the hobby for 4-5 years, so when I returned years later, I have no idea of knowing where she ended up. I just hope her current owner is enjoying her as much as I did as those years ago. :aheartbea

    14. Two of the mature tiny dolls I've sold are now with the same fellow member of DoA who' s given them face-ups and wigs and new outfits and shares them on the discussion threads here. Its so great to see dolls that didn't work for me looking so great for another collector.

    15. Same here. A lot of times, the doll hasn't been on display/chilling in its box for some time, so selling is really the final stage of moving on from that doll for me.

    16. A few months ago I sold a doll to a nice lady on Facebook. We ended up messaging back and forth quite a bit. She shared photos of the doll as she worked on getting him clothes, wig, etc,. and it was fun seeing him being loved by his new owner.

One doll I sold years ago, I really wonder about. I sold her on EBAy to a man who wanted to give a BJD to his adult daughter for Christmas. He knew nothing about BJDs and his daughter had never owned one, but had expressed an interest. I wonder if the daughter knew how to care for a bjd and if she really liked the doll. I tried to educate the dad a little, when I sold him the doll, but I don't know if it all worked out.

    17. That's really sweet that you can still watch them grow and live :) this story makes me happy

    18. The first story is so sweet. Hope all the dolls can have sweet homes and people loving them >3
