Do you get jealous when someone buys your type of doll?

Jul 24, 2005

    1. Its kinda stupid to me to get jealous when someone else has the same model as they do. lol

I mean, its like buying anything else, a grand piano? a flat screen tv? Something more lovable? how about a certian breed of animal?

You expect to be the only one in the world to have one? Really? lol

I say the more the merrier. It would be cool to have a limited or one of a kind but honestly, the more people have them, the more to share and see so many different personalities you could do with that one doll model.

The girl I'm even ordering my dolls clothes from happens to have a DoI Luke as well and just by chance has the same type hair and eyes. I honestly made a joke like "Lawl, wow and I thought I was being all original!" I laughed and moved along.

    2. no...
i might get angry if the person talks bad stuff about it... but i dont why i should be jealous

    3. Not at all, if anything it is fun to see how they create that doll's personality and character differently than mine.

    4. I would be glad if someone got an AOD Qian she doesn't seem very popular. Besides, I would love to see how other people style her. The only way I could get jealous would be if before I get mine I see someone elses and they're exactly how I want mine to look.

    5. i'm irrational so i get mad XD it doesn't happen often since my dolls and style isn't very popular but i get mad if someone copies me >_

    6. No, I don't get jealous. I actually love seeing other people with the same molds I own! I love how different every doll is - even dolls of the same mold can look nothing alike. :)

    7. Not at all. When I bought my MD Jina and KDF Bory girl there weren't many of either around (plenty of Bory boys though lol). It's kind of funny to see a wave of a certain sculpt come in right after you buy it, and it's a lot of fun to see all the different versions. I gush over other people's borys nearly as much as I gush over my own.:XD:

    8. Jealous why? I'm fine with it! It is nice to have discussion with owners who have the same dolls you do!

    9. When strangers get dolls I own or covet? Not at all. I'm only just starting out, so it's nice to see how other people put colours and styles together and it's nice to talk to them. Also, the dolls I have already are relatively common sculpts, so if I threw a wobbly every time I saw someone else's I'd spend most of my life with steam coming out of my ears.

It's a different story when people I know suddenly develop interest in dolls that I really really want and can probably never afford. It's petty, it's childish, but I do it anyway. I get weirdly butthurt over chunks of my wishlists showing up on theirs. I understand intellectually that I probably just have awesome taste and should start my own cult, but my inner four year old still screeches "I found that first! Do your own research!" :sweat

    10. On the contrary, I get happy when someone buys/has the same dolls as mine :P

    11. Well, I don't have a doll yet, but I'm saving up for a DoT Camine. ^__^

Personally, I don't feel jealous at all. If anything, when I see that so many others have the same doll, it makes me happy that he's such a well-loved guy. It's even better when I can actually see the doll or at least pictures, because I like to see all of the different styles on this beautiful boy. ♥

    12. Nah, I don't get jealous. I do find myself admiring them and thinking how gorgeous they are and how different they look to mine. (I like seeing the same molds in completely different styles, it's fun to see what different directions a mold can be taken in.) Like at Otakon, I found someone with the same AA mold as me and spent a good five or ten minutes squeeing over him and his adorableness and his awesome neo-victorian clothes and letting his owner take photos of him and my boy together. It was funny seeing my gothed-up jrocker-wannabe h.naoto-lookalike-outfitted kid next to his pretty, natural-faceupped corsetted neo-victorian mold-twin.

I find it incredibly stupid to be jealous of someone just because they have or are talking about the mold of doll you have. Of course, I also get annoyed when someone goes ZOMG THEY COPIED MEEEE! when someone happens to have a doll of the same mold with the same eyes and or wig, or even just a doll with the same eye/wig combination. I always want to tell them that if they're so concerned about their doll not being a special little snowflake OMG, then they should have a minimee sculpted and make the eyes and wig themself so that there's no chance anyone else can manage to hit upon the same combination withtheir own doll. I think if you're getting jealous of someone because they have the same mold as you, you have some serious growing up left to do. Sometimes I really think people need to step back and realise that dolls are NOT srs bznz.

    13. O_________o

...why in the name of all that's good and holy would I get jealous of someone who has a doll I OWN?

I don't have any uber-limiteds. Hell, two of my dolls fall into the realm of 'insanely popular sculpt'. Are there examples of my dolls out there that look better than mine? Possibly, but it's all in the eye of the beholder. Do I feel jealous? Why? In my opinion, mine are perfect-looking for who and what they are, and if they aren't? Well, then, I tweak until they do. If I DID get an uber-limited (and there are two I really love), would I be jealous of someone else getting one? Uh, no. Because they wouldn't look like mine, and they wouldn't have the same characters, and good god I just can't think of any reason why I'd ever be jealous.

Jealousy in general is one of those things that burns up a lot of energy that could be put towards more productive activities.

    14. Just the opposite- I get thrilled. In fact, I wish MORE people bought the dolls I like. None of the sculpts I plan to get (or the one I own) seem too popular, and I can't see why, as I find them beautiful.

    15. (Emphasis added)

I'm hoping something is lost in translation here, because if I had a friend who had such a strong negative emotional reaction at the mere discussion of a type of object they are fond of... I'd be very worried for that friend, No offense meant.

    16. Haha... I'm kind of touchy on this--honestly, I'm thrilled to meet someone that owns another EP kitty, especially since Allura is so hard to find clothing for! It's always nice to share tips and tricks for your specific mold with someone else. ^___^

However, my next doll is going to be a Shall... Yesterday, I was talking with a friend who wants to turn a character of hers into a doll and when she told me she found a doll she likes at Dream of Doll I was REALLY excited, because I just adore them! At first, when she told me the doll she liked was Shall, I was super excited, but then the more I thought about it the more I realized that I didn't know how I felt about it. @.@" I think it's really nice to see other people with the same mold that you don't know, but (for me) to have someone close to you with the same mold is kind of wierd. XD

    17. Actually, i'd be pretty excited!~ B&G Ymir molds don't seem to be very popular, and neither do Puki Puki Lily's (I'm ordering one this week~) So yeah, to see some of those would be really cool 8D

    18. Not realy...I have very popular mold-Dia SG,and then i should be dead already-becouse many people like it it and have it...But all Dias are diffrent:D

    19. I think I would become jealous and upset if someone copied my ideas for a doll, but not at all becuase they have the same sculpt.

Although, I have noticed that I find myself shying away from sculpts that my close BJD owning friends have. I don't want to constantly compare my doll with any of theirs, so I don't consider them as options to buy. That's not really a good reason, but I'll never consider buying a BBB Mei or Ju since my best friends own them, but I do love Ariel and Espree...

    20. Yes. I have a few friend in the doll hobby who tend to absentmindedly copy me. I have my original characters. They are mine. Yes the doll mold may be common that I choose for some of them. But when they only become interested after I get that doll. That bugs me. I can understand with some of the common molds. Like my shushu or pipi. But I made miho a girl and ive had friends who say they want to do the same thing. =[ It makes me sad. It takes the originality out of it. But what can you do. In this hobby anyone can have the exact same doll, clothes, and accessories as you. =\
