1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Do you get jealous when someone buys your type of doll?

Jul 24, 2005

    1. o_0 I might've answered this thread before and forgotten, it's been around so long... I'm sorry if this is a repeat, but I find this totally weird.

I think it's bratty, immature, and generally just obnoxious to have the bitter type of jealousy over others getting to have what you have. If someone over the age of 5 behaved like that around me about any possession (not necessarily dolls, as I don't know any doll owners in rl), I'd tell them to grow up and get out of the sandbox. Or I'd just avoid them.

If you mean jealous as in simply wishing you had what others have because you admire them, that's fine. Don't we all say "I'm so jealous of your ______" as a compliment to praise someone? I think this sort of feeling is positive. If you see someone else's example of a mold that you also have, and you find their version superior, it can be an impetus for you to improve your own.

But being bitter against others because of your ridiculous ego/entitlement issues and/or insecurity is pointless. And tacky. :P

    2. im not exactly jealous.

i decided on my girls because they were beautiful and different than the average sculpt to me. but it irritates me that the 2 dolls i DO have are super popular now.

i ordered my dolls based on how their pics on their home sites made me feel. I thought they were both beautiful and had character even before they got to me. i feel like alot of dolls out there... well... just look the same! i swear they ALL have the same bland expression! i have been surfing doll sites for more than 2 years trying to decide on the BEST doll and i really feel like the 2 dolls i have are my favorite sculpts out there. so it bothers me now because i see more and more people buying the same 2 sculpts as what i have.

i guess my big issue is i HATE being "on the bandwagon". i hate being the same as everyone else! but i guess that maybe the truth about the dolls is that the industry is evolving. people are looking for a different kind of sculpt than the popular dolls from 2 years ago or longer. maybe its a good thing? maybe this evolving simply means that there will be MORE of the type of doll that snatches my breath away!

    3. I love it when I meet other people who have a doll I have or have a doll I want. If we both have one, they we can compare them to each other since they all get their own looks and personalities to them even when they are the same mold. You can also see other outfits on them.

If someone has a doll I want, then it gives me a chance to see it in person (assuming we met in person), to see how he/she poses, stands, looks offline etc.

I don't see why jealousy has to enter into it at all.

    4. Since I don't have any BJDs yet I'm basically jealous of anyone who has any already. Heh. On a similar vein, I just saw a post that someone had made stating that they were saving for the same sculpt I was...and I couldn't help but think a "I gotta' get him now" type thing. Not it a mean, you can't have it sorta' way, more like a competitive see who can save the fastest type thing.

    5. Nope. I always love seeing new photos of dolls that are the same type as mine. When checking out the galleries, I will click on any thread that has a sculpt I own listed. Seeing how people customize their dolls with faceups, mods, wigs and eyes is part of what makes this hobby so wonderful for me. I love seeing how different two of the same sculpt can look from one another. There is so much creativity and originality in this hobby that the only pangs of envy I feel are more of "I wish I'd been creative enough to think of that!"

    6. Not at all! There are only so many places to get bjd's, someone else is bound to get the same doll you have! Lol. But I like when other people buy or might talk about the doll I have. It's nice to see what they have done with the same doll you have. And how different they can look. I'm sure there is no one in here that doesn't have a doll someone else does, (unless it's like, custom made, you know). So, I don't see why someone would get upset if someone buys the same doll as you. Lol.
I mean, if the doll looks EXACTLY like your doll, or they plan to made their doll look the way you want to make your doll look.. I might get upset. Lol. 'Cause I don't wanna have a doll that looks exactly like someone else, when it comes to their wig, eyes, accessories and such. Unless it were a cosplay or something. XD

    7. I'm excited. I LOVE seeing pictures of the same mold.

And you know what? I just found out the other day via flickr that I'm NOT the only one who had the idea to make their IH Tatiana look like Heather from Silent Hill 3! xD I don't know which of us got the idea first, but it got me pretty excited. I don't need my doll to be physically unique, because it's her character that makes her special. And anyway, I just took it as a sign of that person's excellent taste! xD

    8. When I first realized that everyone seemed to be buying LittleFee Antes I was really upset that I had just purchased something that was unoriginal. But while I was waiting for her, and looking at pictures of others' dollies I kept thinking to myself "... well that looks cute, but my Ante wouldn't wear that..." and I realized that each doll has it's own personality. When I got my Ante, she had a different "personality" than what I had originally planned for her. It was a nice surprise and I am no longer jealous that everyone and their mother has the same doll (exaggeration of course). It's such a beautiful mold and poses really well! It's a wonder why more people don't have her!

edit: it's also a pleasure to see the same mold in completely different ways.

    9. NOT AT ALL!!

i've seen people who own the same type of doll i'm going to purchase and i'm not really all that jelous. i actually get excited X3 its awesome to see how others customize a model to their own personal tastes. but if its the same model and it looks totally DIFFERENT from your doll, whats wrong with that? its your doll but technically not YOUR doll. i think you should get jelous when you really customize a doll to be honestly yours and someone sees it and copies it. also not to sound mean but your friends have to realize that theirs going to be more than one of the same mold of a doll somewhere in the world.

    10. I have to wonder if the word the OP was thinking of wasn't jealous but possessive. I am not sure how you can be jealous of someone for having something that you have as well.

It doesn't bother me at all that other people own the same sculpts I do. After all, their dolls are never going to be as wonderful as mine. ;)

    11. No. I like to see many dolls of my favorite mold. I think than every doll is a personality, and dolls of one mold, thereby, are personalities which are very much alike. :)

    12. Not at all! ^____^ Actually, I think the reason I love BJDs so much is simply because of how unique each and every doll can be. If you have a custom face up, it's really unlikely that anyone can re-create it. Secondly, no person is exactly like me, thus I know for certain that no doll will be exactly like mine. I'm secure in myself enough to know that I am an individual with opinions that follow my own heart, and that no one can walk it with me. ^___^ We may share similar things, but no one can have the exact same doll as mine. Company, face-up, clothing, and name; but that still isn't everything to me. ^____^ There's a part where bonding makes all the difference. I know my dolls, and I love to see others who share in my similar tastes.

    13. The kid-delf Bory is a really popular mold, but everyone I've seen have been different x3

I love seeing the different takes on him, it shows how customizable these dolls are. :blush

    14. Absolutely not! I would love the fact that there was someone else who shared my interest in a particular doll.

    15. Ditto. I like when I see other people with dolls I own - after all, I buy them because I like the mold, generally, and seeing other interpretations of the mold is a nice thing.

    16. I love seeing other Litchi's, especially since there's so few of them on DoA. In fact, I would never have become interested in the mold if it hadn't been for owner's pics, because I don't really like the company photos. ^_^

    17. Yes i do get jealous cause' i don't have a doll and I really want one TT^TT
and it depends what type of "talk"
if it's good then i would love to continue what they're doing...

but it goes for all BJD's for me
I get offended when my friends insult BJD's so
it's not only my type of doll :)

    18. I wouldn't get jealous because when I see other doll owners that have the same mold, I view their doll as a completely different character, like I would say, Konrard would never wear something like that or I see the same doll wearing clothes that I know my characters would never wear even though it looks good on the same doll I have, lol. Our dolls are all so unique in their own way, it's cool to see what people do to the same models all the time.

    19. I think than every doll has his personality, even they look the same they still different.

    20. Not at all. I like how the same doll can appear so different with different looks!
And really, I wish there were more Litchi here! >__<
