Do you get jealous when someone buys your type of doll?

Jul 24, 2005

    1. Just a little, sometimes. ^___^ But I love seeing other people's versions of dolls I have, all of them looks very different and have their own outstanding personalities. So I'm trying not to be jealous, it is pretty destructive feeling...

    2. On one hand, I don't feel jealous at all. The Dollmore Thinking Larme is limited to 15 and has been up for sale for over a year now, with two price drops. I feel bad for him, actually, 'cause he's such a beautiful mold. I've only actually seen about five (at most) others out there, on DoA and DA. I would love to see all 15 of him out there, just to see what others would do with him.

But on the other hand... I wouldn't call it jealous, as I love seeing different molds of the Thinking Larme... And I'm not claiming this to be rational or even logical, but I can't help the smug, horrible feeling that rises up everytime I see a Thinking Larme. The one that dances and crows saying "Mine's better!"

Not rational, probably not true (especially as how I have a factory face-up), and really terrible of me. *shrugs* But I can't help that I feel that way, no matter how irrational, illogical, or untruthful it might be. I'm sure that we all feel that way about our dolls, deep down inside, if we're honest with ourselves.

    3. No, I don't get jealous. I do enjoy looking at the databases and seeing what everyone else has done with the molds, but I am confident that two of my dolls are pretty much unique here on DoA. Even if they weren't unique or someone copied their look, I wouldn't care.

    4. What a weird topic... But hell, it's 7AM and I haven't slept, I'll contribute.

I have an El. And a Bory. That should be enough of an explanation. >__> But naaah, I don't get jealous. I might get a little envious when I see people with the same mold who have, in my opinion, made it look a lot better than I ever could imagine, but other than that, I really don't care. I like seeing how different the molds look with different wigs/eyes/faceups. It's an even better feeling when someone tells you that you're the reason why they bought/kept a mold.

Only thing I think I get worked up about is when I see someone who owns the same mold as me and gives them the same style and personality. Then it seems kind of off. Other than that, like I said, I don't really care.

    5. nope, it does not bother me at all ^^!
in fact, i really enjoy seeing the variety and all the different characters :3
i would not have bought the doll if i did not love the mold, so why would it bother me to see more of it?

    6. I don't get jealous at all ... Though other may have the same molds, mine are unique to me.
I also really like reading photostories when there are familiar doll molds used. ;)

    7. Not to be insulting in the least but it sounds a bit immature. I mean if you're going to have a doll that is as highly popular as any soom doll then you have to expect that many other people will have it too.
Personally, I love seeing other people's molds of the dolls I also have because they have come from the same mold but even with factory faceups no two are alike. Once people are finished adding all their own personal touches they are just too different. :D

    8. Not if I already have it. I know I share the same mold with a lot of other people.

A slightly different issue, but: I get upset to hear other people talk poorly about a mold that I have. Like if someone says "I think all Soo-Ri's are strange looking," or "I think large busted Unoas are gross because they're MSD with too mature of a body," THAT kind of stuff offends me because I have those dolls.

      If I see someone with a doll I want but don't have the money for, though- sometimes I feel a little envious they had more money than me (at least enough to get the doll). XD;;

    9. well i dont hve one yet but i get dissapointed when I see people who have there Soom amber pure spirits, cuz i really want one.. thats all.. :(

    10. I'll admit that I'm a little jealous sometimes when I see molds that I'm dying to have, and I know I can't (*coughSoomcough*), but it's overwhelmed by the joy I get from seeing photos of these beautiful dolls. I don't like knowing that some people just have limited dolls on display and never touch them except to clean them, because I think they should be handled, but I have learned that there are many ways to love a doll so I try to get over it.

    11. Why would I get jealous? I would be interested in how they customized him/her ^^

    12. I don't know any other dollie people in real life, so I don't have to worry about someone I know getting the same doll as me.

However, If I did have a friend get the same doll I have it wouldn't bother me one bit as long as it wasn't a carbon copy (same eye and hair color and skintone and everything). The same sculpt can look so different, and I would feel flattered that someone is so inspired by my doll that they want one just like her.

    13. Nope! In fact, I've made friends with people who like the Isao Nanjou sculpt as much as I do. :)

    14. Well, in the end, sculpts don't belong to us. They belong to their artists. They arent ours to be jealous of!

    15. Definitely not. I get excited to see what other people have done with the same dolls that I have/want.

    16. Nope not at all. I don't see many people with my mold either way. Hehe, and the beauty of BJDs is they never really look the same.

    17. Nope, not at all in fact quite the opposite. In fact I feel so happy when my dolls have actually influenced other people and friends to buy the same sculpt (this has happened quite often with at least 3 of my dolls). It's kinda like sharing the love <3

All dolls are OOAK to me, and similar dolls make for such nice group photos. I really love the concept of twins/siblings, but I love too many molds to afford to own more than one of the same kind >__< So I get very excited if one of my real life friends owns the same sculpt as me :fangirl:

    18. Personally i feel happy since the girls/boys get an owner and a personality^^. On the dark side, i do feel a wee bit jealous since I couldnt do much even if i adopted them.

Every doll and their owner is unique i guess, so its much more fun looking at them/

    19. Not at all. I feel happy when someone does, because i just adore my dolls'molds, and i'd love to see it in other clothes and such or with a different faceup, so that i can see the different styles that mold can have :)

    20. I gotta admit, I get slightly jealous if someone has/is going to get the same mold of doll I've had in mind. I'm kinda competitive in pretty much everything I do, and even if this hobby isn't about competing with others at all, I still feel that way. I know how silly it is, since the mold might be the same as with some others, but I'm still gonna make completely unique doll with make-up, clothing, story and so on.

Nevertheless, I'm aiming to be polite and nice with people having/wanting the same mold even if I'm a bit jealous : )
