Do you get jealous when someone buys your type of doll?

Jul 24, 2005

    1. I think I'd have to get out of the hobby or start sculpting my own dolls if it was really a problem. Most of the sculpts I like are pretty popular, like my first boy being a CP El, it'd be really silly to get jealous over it.

I love seeing what people have done to their dolls, because it's amazing how different they all look, even if someone else had a CP El with default face up like mine....the doll would still look different because of the eyes or the wig or even the way he's dressed or posed. I mean it took me nine years to buy my boy, in that time I can't begin to imagine how many people bought him first....

    2. If it's a doll I own, then no. I love to see what people do with her. My friend comments all the time that even though they may be the same sculpt, they all look extremely different depending on how you dress them up or if you give them a custom face up. And it's true, often it takes me a moment to notice it's a Shushu, even though I own one. She even says my own looks different from the pictures on Fairyland. tl;dr it doesn't make me upset or jealous.

    3. Not really. Which doll to buy is a matter of each person. I find it really interesting and creative how many variations of the same sculpt you can find.

    4. I only get jealous with LE dolls though usually, like Tanning Delf Els.. omg they're gorgeous XD So when I see one on the marketplace and it's gone the next day I'm like "Aww...."
And then I remember I didn't have any money, so I get over it XD.

    5. Honestly, no. It makes me happy that other people like the same mold I do, and I always look forward to seeing what they do with their Ryu. ^^

    6. I think every doll is different in the hands of it's owner, so no doll is really ever the same, even if it's the exact same model. It's like a canvas. Every artist can start off with the same size, the same wash, drawing the same still life, and no painting would ever be the same. That's why I like BJD's so much! So to get jealous over someone else having the same model of doll just doesn't make any sense in my eyes.

Every doll is completely unique once the owner does anything to it, even something small like a face-up. And sure, you could wipe it clean, and strip it down to factory default, but even then it has a history behind it that no other doll has.

      Aaanyways, just my two cents there.. ^_^;;

    7. I don't get jealous; I become enthusiastic. Like, "Yes! I love Tony, finally there's someone who appreciates him too!" I can't get enough of my own dolls, I couldn't possibly be tired of seeing more of them pop up. The only time I might become adverse to such a thing would be when people play favoritism to one, e.g. there are four F-16s at a meet-up, and everyone is only acknowledging one of them.

Na-Nu-Ri is the only one that makes me feel overly sad when I see it being sold in the marketplace or when someone is talking bad about it. Out of all my dolls, Na-Nu-Ri is the only one I've noticed that gets absolutely no love. Even DOD Wi has some very passionate owners! I have yet to meet anyone who loves their Na-Nu-Ri as much as me.

    8. Not at all! I enjoy seeing what other people have done with their doll. It's fun to see him in different clothes and wigs and stuff.

    9. Well.. I don't actually have a BJD yet.. but YES I'm so jealous of all of you guys! Specially for the pukiFée owners! XD
I see all those pictures with the beautiful dolls and I just wish that I could get hold of one right away!

Now, about being jealous when someone talks about a doll... in my case at this point about one of my ponies... No, I don't really feel jealous, I usually feel proud because people don't to talk badly about them. And if they do.. well, too bad for them. It's mine, I love it and nothing is going to change that. Everybody can have their opinion! ^^

    10. I'm not a jealous person by nature, which is probably just as well given how many Hounds, Els, Shiwoos, Lishes and Chiwoos there are on the forum! :sweat Even my limiteds such as my Breakaway 05 vampire and my Juri 05 aren't exactly rarities.

What does bother me is when someone buys the same mold and then tries to turn it into a copy of one of my dolls. There are hundreds of Shiwoos out there - but someone doing a scar mod with three scars running through the right eye, custom Masterpiece eyes in the precise design I commissioned MP myself to produce, a lip ring and a long straight chestnut wig with two white streaks in? They couldn't be anything other than an attempted copy of my Eric, and that I would take a very dim view of. I was actually contacted by a friend once who had been approached to do an open-eye mod on a sleeping Breakaway vamp head and do a face-up very similar to that of my Perseus, and that did bug me.

    11. Not my type of doll, I like KDFs and HDFs and Pukipukis so I would be jealous.
But if someone bought my dreamdoll off the MP, sntaching it before me, I would be pissed. PISSED I tell you. But when I have him I will be, whatever. <3

    12. not in the least! and like many others here, i adore looking at the same molds i have, but with different looks from different owners. Im always looking up other ryu's and always searching for more Finn or Keid owners.
My keid is committed to one style of face-up, (its just his personality and its sticking!) and since i dont want to change his look, like i do some of my other boys who change often, i like to see what other people have done.

    13. Not really. If someone I knew got any of the dolls I really want I'd love it! It gives you the chance to see that doll maybe before you can get it ^^ And if you already have it, then why should it matter? xD

    14. Well.... looks like my friend is going to get the same doll as me because she fell in love with him after seeing him in person XD.. I have to say, I'm rather thrilled. Twins!! I'd totally be spamming everywhere with pictures. :P I'd never own two of the same sculpt but it's different when a friend has it. :)

    15. not at all..i mean everyone are free to choose and buy

    16. not jealous, but every time i look at someone else's ducan i want to kidnap them all and keep them for myself and have a big ducan army. >_>

    17. i did!
only once. my friend told me she wanted a delf breakaway (I have one) and for some reason it made me... mad? possessive?
I dunno, my breakaway is kinda special to me and i dont want HER to have one too.
she could've said any other dolls i have or dream about and i would'nt have mind but for some reason, breakaway is a big no!

and as much as this is childish and selfish, my reaction is still better than when she found out I had some of "HER" favourites band on my MP3. she got all like: you cant listent to this! these are MY bands! (and she was almost yelling at me and really insisted that these were HER bands. while I simply got a bit upset and told her I didnt want her to have a breakaway too)
¬.¬;; so I REALLY don't feel bad about it :P

for other persons (at meet for exemple), i am usually happy when they have a doll like mine or one I want because i'm either : yay, they're twins! >3 *takes pictures of the dolls together*
or : OMG lemme seeeeee him!! :aheartbea *grabby hands*

    18. Not at all. Why should I? Every BJD is unique, at least from my point of view. They were made to be customized in as infinite ways as BJD owners and even more, therefore each of them is personal and different to all the rest, no matter if of a same sculpt or not. I like this fact and I think it is one of the best parts of this hobby. Several friends of mine have some few sculpts in common with me and I feel glad for their own characters they have created in them.

    19. I agree, the more the merrier. I like it when someone gets the same doll and personalizes it to their liking. It's very interesting to see the different creative styles out there and I love the photo's.

Sometimes, I get ideas or get inspired when I see what someone else has done. I'm not copying them but it makes me think about something I could do or take whatever they did to a new level.

    20. Not at all. I think that's rather silly, actually. What would bother me is if I went to a meetup and everyone had the same dolls, because the whole point of attending for me is to see other sculpts and styles in person. Of course, no one locally has any of my sculpts except Baha, and it was quite gratifying for me to see that mine was the cutest :mwahaha!
