Do you have a favorite BJD size?

Aug 27, 2021

    1. I never has a SD size, but had (and still have) MSD and under.
I must admit yosd and pukifee size are my favorite for the moment.

    2. I am a fairly small person, so I prefer smaller dolls. Sometimes I even have a hard time handling my MSD, so I can't imagine a larger doll. Though, I am tempted to get an SD for the increased clothing/design options and detail.

    3. If you do (do iiiiiiit), I recommend a 58-cm doll like Angel of Dream, Volks Super Dollfie SD, Iplehouse nYID, or Fairyland Feeple60. That's the most common "SD" or 1/3 scale size, and you'll find the widest variety of clothing and patterns.
they aren't really that much bigger, but they're so addictive... :evilplot:

    4. I used to prefer 1/3 scale, and I still love them, and I think it's because I just really love big dolls. I legit think it's related to the fact that as a kid I wanted one of those huge barbies but never got one. XD But now, I actually think I overall prefer 1/4, probably because they're just more practical in terms of size and weight.

    5. Thanks, haha!

The main reason I would get a larger doll would be to shell a specific character, and his face would be VERY difficult to find a sculpt for. I have a couple of maybes, but they're still only maybes.

    6. My favorite size is MSD. As others have pointed out, it is comfortable to handle. Many independent artists and companies make clothes and accessories for MSD. These dolls are not too big, so they only take up a little storage space. At the same time, I have a soft spot for SD, YOSD, and half-scale dolls.

    7. Personally I prefer 1/4 scale doll.

    8. Over the years in the hobby I have had many dolls that I sold because they were not the right size. And realized that my favorite size is standard msd.

    9. I have always loved the big guys over 65cm best. Recently I have been doing more with my smaller dolls though as I injured myself and could not lift my big boys. I still prefer the larger ones though.

    10. My favorite once is 1/4 as just the thought of I could easily store them better and can handle them more easily

I've never bought nor had a 1/3 or any bigger size of them and guessed it will be harder and of course heavier on handling them as well as especially to where to place them not unless
if I were to build another room storage solely for those sizes.

    11. I love all sizes, and own just about every size right now. Each has their pros/cons:

Tinies/Yo-SD — fits in a purse, easy to store somewhere… but also easy to lose. Obitsu feet are magnetized so my tiny can stand on the edge of a knife, and in an espresso cup. But they’re so small you really need a good place to keep them safe.

MSD - More ‘doll-like’ than a tiny. Easier to transport, and a lot of clothes options are available. Most people at cons/meets will bring these dolls due to size/weight. There are also more mature MSD and child-like MSD.

SD/60cm - BIG DOLL! SO COOL! I love big dolls. The larger the better, imo. But with size comes weight issues. They can be awkward to hold for long periods. And sometimes moving them around is kind of clunky

SD/70cm+ — HOOOOLY CRAP. I love this size, but they are awkwardly heavy. It’s like holding a baby, but he’s a lil man. 70cm males butts DO NOT fit pants well, and clothes for them are incredibly difficult to find.

    12. i really like MSD. They are not too big and they don't take up much space. It is very practical to me, but i have now my first SD and its not bad too

    13. When I ordered my 1/4 I had doubts if I'd like her, but it turns out I love that size too! She's much more toy-like than SD (in a good way) while still large and heavy enough to feel like a proper doll. I'm tempted to stick her in a backpack and take her around.
I don't have larger dolls than SD (yet) but I believe SD is the sweet spot. It's big but not big to the point where size or weight start affecting the posing and they do not need engineering quirks like ratchets or multiple shelves - just good old string tension and maybe sueding.

    14. I only have 1 doll (so far) and she's 1/3 scale. But I feel like she's a little too large for me? ^^' After seeing photo comparisons and some dolls in person, I know I want my next one to be 1/4 scale. I might change my mind after owning one but for now I think that's the ideal size!

    15. Although I wander into the territories of msd and sd sized dolls every now and again my preferences lie in tinies between 1/8 - 1/6 size. I do have a couple smaller (a Pukipuki, Tinybear/Sleeping Elf ‘Moona’ and fat fairies’Bonbon’ and ‘Coco’) but I feel more comfortable with Pukifee, Realfee and 1/6 size.

    16. MSD sized dolls (up to 58cm, but that's already SD, I think) are best for me.
I do kind of want a Dollmore Lusion (79cm?), but fear that I'll regret it.

    17. when I started the hobby I liked SD girls and boys, later I prefered MSD but now I'm in love with huge dolls such as Dollmore Lusion or Trinity.

    18. Eh heh heh heh heh. Welcome to the madness that is enormous dolls.... :whee:

    19. Thank you thank you hahahahahahaha

    20. I've actually been thinking about this a lot lately! I've got a couple of the tinies (1/12, and 1/6). I love how portable they are, and how cute they tend to be. I also have a couple of 1/4 size dolls, and I think they're probably the biggest I want to go. I don't have a ton of space, so smaller is probably better for my sanity.
