Do you have a favorite BJD size?

Aug 27, 2021

    1. I've had from 70cm on down over the years, although my fav large size is still in the 58-62cm range. That said, as I age (and deal with medical impacts to strength and stability), I'm finding that some beauteous large dolls now are just too heavy for me to haul around or handle comfortably, and my preference is shifting to mini size. Except for a couple of large doll brands that have always had more lightweight bodies than other brands.

    2. I collect various sizes and love them all BUT I recently got a pukipuki in the mail and Im totally smitten. The size is adorable and I love it more than I imagined, now I want them all:XD:
Tinies have taken over this year!

    3. I only own 1/3 dolls ranging from 55 to 75 I'd say? I tend to like more mature looks that's probably why I tend to buy 1/3 as most 1/4 are a bit too cute for my taste.
I also love how intricate and detailled the bigger dolls are in terms of clothing, accessories and such it's definetly something that pushes me in their direction!

    4. I own one boy that is 1/3, he is my only and first doll. It has been 10 years since I got him, and I now plan to get into things more seriously as I am older and have more funds for the hobby - I definitely want to go for MSD only, at max 52cm for some really big male dolls. The one I have is just really tall and I think I'd have an easier time displaying the 1/4 ones. Not to mention the price different cx The only downside to 1/4 I have seen is more limited choices for mature men...

    5. You're in luck because mature 1/4 are becoming a thing, as far as I know. The old-fashioned dolls with a bigger head and more stylized proportions have faded considerably.

    6. @lutke compared to 10 years ago that definitely seems to be the case and I am so here for it! :love

    7. I started with MSD, and I've now come full circle and I'm once again concentrating on my MSD-size dolls. I finally ordered a Resinsoul doll I've wanted to buy for at least a decade now.

I'm not sure I have a favourite size, though. My smallest fully jointed BJD is DHS Pocca, and the largest is a 70 cm Resinsoul Yi.

    8. i have a lot of different size doll. but im doing most with my MSD.. they are not too small and not too big, be it carrying around or dress up, they just are the easiest to handle in my collektion. I could see my collection go in that direction, to only own MSD or most of my doll being MSD.

    9. With my tallest doll being a 1/3 and the smallest I have went so far being 1/6 and having 1/4ths as well. My favorite size dolls that to be 1/6 because the abundance and affordability of clothes/shoes for them. I love my other dolls they just not as portable and thrifty.

    10. I have varies size of BJD. I do found I love hugging my SD and my MSD is more suitable stand or sitting on my desk while enjoying their company.

    11. Hmmm...that's an interesting point. I have one SD size doll, and I was going to say she's probably my favorite size. However, after thinking about your comment I have to say my 1/4 and 1/6 are much better for my wallet. Since I can afford more accessories and clothing for them, they do get handled more as well. So while I like the look/feel of SD I think 1/6-1/4 suits my situation best.

    12. I used to like SD sized dolls the most, but lately I've discovered that most of my favourite dolls have been MSD sized.

    13. I really like 45 cm bjds. It's easy to find clothes and accessories too.

    14. Definitely 1/3 size is my favorite. I've owned tinies, msds, sds, and sd13. And 1/3 is ideal for me in terms of finding clothing, being easy to photograph in terms of scale and poseability, and it's such a nice size for me to hold. I might own tinies again in the future just for fun (I like the idea of a tiny on the go for spontaneous silly photos) but 1/3 is my favorite size and always will be.

    15. I eventually got into 70cm (DT 18 girl) after writing this, and I still believe SD is the "perfect' size, because it's the right compromise - hefty but not heavy, big enough to have presence but small enough to hold poses and handle nicely - but I love that extra step in size so much. I'll probably stay in the 65-70 range and I'm seriously thinking of getting a way larger doll as a finisher, like a Conarium.

    16. My boys are all MSDs and YOSDs!
The MSDs are my favorite overall since it's MUCH easier to find clothes/accessories for them that aren't meant to look like children's clothes/accessories (major issue w/ the YOSDs). They def don't have as many clothing/accessory/wig options as SDs, but that seems to be improving over time.

I do actually have one SD, but he's just lying in a box waiting to be sold.
I got him around a year ago and just never bonded with him. Felt too big for me . . . I love teeny tiny things too much.
I think he could be super adorable with a new faceup and wig, and I could probably create a version of him I could really love. But the thing is . . . I wouldn't want more SDs, so he'd just be sitting around being a loner while my little MSDs and YOSDs are all cuddled up together and cozy in their little groups. I'd feel bad for him lmfao; he'd just be like the last creature of his kind eternally roaming the earth alone )':

Hopefully he'll go to a home with some fellow SDs!

    17. I splurged on a lot of MSDs only to later realize I prefer the big dolls. I read a lot of webtoons so my overall 75CM dolls aesthetics leans a bit more towards the "serious, cold looking male lead" type of look that'd you see in KR webtoons or CN manhuas or novels, and I really like that. I like the idea of creating OCs to bring my story ideas to life, so the 1/3+ sized dolls definitely help and work as a guide.
