Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Do you have a favorite BJD size?

Aug 27, 2021

    1. My favorite size is 1/3...:D

    2. My favorite size is MSD, but I've never handled or seen an SD in person before, so I guess I don't know for sure x'D The idea of an SD really intimidates me though! Especially because I'm more interested in male dolls, and I know a male SD would be a hunk. (I think I'd be scared to break him, which I know probably makes less sense because SD's are probably thicker? But I'm kind of a noodle so I'd probably be likely to drop him knowing me). I get really nervous handling my Iplehouse FID boy sometimes!

That said I LOVE the range of sculpts I've seen in SD size. It almost tempts me, and if I had more space, maybe I'd take that plunge. But alas I am confined to one room and it is already bursting at the seams.

    3. I have dolls ranging from 1/4 all the way up 75cm. I actually love anything over 70cm the best though, even 65cms is a little too small for me these days. The only problem I have is clothing some of the 75cm guys is so hard it stops me from getting more of them :XD:

    4. Early on I just assumed that my favorite size was 1/6 scale and that it would always be that way. Now that I think about it though, it's obvious to me that my biases lean towards the 1/4 scale MSDs, even if the YOSDs are easier to travel with. Heck, I think the majority of my collection so far is MSDs!

    5. It really depends on the doll for me. Gem of Dolls 1/4 models are usually supposed to be young children. Bo Zeya and Ho Chily seem to be the exception and are teenish to young women. Sometimes, you just want a smaller BJD and they worked for me. If anyone's interested, the fullset is no longer sold but the fullbody with faceup is. They're 200ish and Gem of Doll, IMO, is good quality.

    6. I prefer collecting male dolls and sometimes the smaller 1/4 are sold as teenager and it makes me uncomfortable buying an anatomically correct doll being as old as I am, haha. I can be sure the 1/3 mens can at least buy their own drinks. It's a weird hang up for an inanimate object, but I guess being a parent makes that sort of thing linger in the front of my brain. I don't judge any one, there's all kinds of body types at the adult age, but we all got our quirks.

    7. I'm in love with Tinies. They're just so cute. But I'd love to own a 1/4 someday, as well.

    8. My favorite size is SD (52-65cm). But I have one chubby doll 35 cm tall and she stands very nicely, which I like. I wouldn't want skinny MSDs or smaller ones because I would be afraid of breaking their thin fingers. And 70+ is too heavy for me. I like to go outside to take pictures.

    9. It used to be so easy to just say SD back when Hounds were the only 70cm doll, but now the SD continuum just continues to grow!

I'm still a fan of and only actively collect 54cm - 65cm, stylized dolls. I like maintaining a fairly consistent crew

    10. When I first started at 50 I was thrilled to get the big guys, my mini men. Then I got arthritis and the big guys have to just sit and be slowly handled. No at 65 I am more into the YO size. I like small but to small is not great for my fingers. I have 1 soon 2 MSD dolls, but otherwise it's the YO and a couple of SD guys. Smart Dolls are okay as I can handle them and the weight is nothing.

    11. Ive handled 1/3 dolls before and its a little bit too big much for me. I think 1/4 is perfect in terms of scale, since you can pose it and handle it easily, and it takes less space too.

    12. Definitely the bigger ones. Idk why I'm just fascinated by them. My first and currently only one is 73 cm. I underestimated how tall he's gonna be when I ordered him and how complicated to handle, but wouldn't change a thing.

    13. My MSDs are easier to travel with but there's just something nice about the weight of SDs.
My dream is to visit Tenshi no Sato next year and bring one of my Volks MSDs with me. So MSDs probably win out as my favourite size just on how portable they are

    14. First i thought i might only like MSD dolls. They are not too big and quite handy. But after i got my first SD i was 100% sure i’m a SD person. i just love everything about them and taking pictures of is is somehow more fun!

    15. As much as I love looking at the stuff people make for SD and other big dolls, my heart belongs to the tinies, YoSD and smaller. It's especially fun seeing what I can make for a 16cm doll, and how to translate details down without looking bad at such a small scale.

I still want an MSD though, because I want to do things with more detail and have a doll that looks a bit more "grown-up" than the tiny babies.

    16. My favourite size is the bigger SD, 65cm+ or more. I find it easier to sew for that size than the smaller dolls. I also find them a bit easier to string and pose. They are quite heavy thou, so I don't like to take them outside a lot, so for that I love the smaller dolls.

    17. I prefer 1/4, but I've sorta gotten myself stuck with 1/3 now that I've shelled one of my OCs in one and can't change the scale up for the other ones xD I also prefer masculine male designs, and I can find them the best in 1/3... ! 1/4 is so holdable and the hobby is full of clothes that fit them!

    18. a month ago I liked MSD dolls, and today I don’t let go of the Rainmanking doll and it seems to me that this is the best doll in my collection today)…. let's see what happens in a couple of weeks

    19. Oh man do I know this feeling...I have 1/12 scale dolls through the larger end of 1/4 in my collection, and I seem to bounce between what I'm loving. So far it seems what I can say is that I'm not interested in the 1/3 and bigger dolls? But all the other scales I seem to find something to appreciate about. I find miniatures endlessly fascinating, so sometimes I love the tiny ones, and other times I'm enjoying the weight and sturdiness of my larger dolls.

    20. I've never heard of Rainmanking doll. Those are GORGEOUS! I learn something new every time I come on this forum. lol
