Do you have a favorite BJD size?

Aug 27, 2021

    1. Since I got my Feeple60, I have at least one of each size now, and I have to say, my favorite are always going to be the tinies. There's something about my little 1/8th elves that bring me a lot of joy and 1/6th are right behind them. It might seem weird to think of something so small being sturdy, but they feel that way to me, probably because their arms and legs aren't so long. The larger dolls feel more elegant to me, and more for display, while I can see the appeal of putting a tiny in my pocket or purse and taking them with me. I'll admit price point and storage capacity helps a lot too!

    2. in the collection it is better to have all sizes of dolls, only in this way you can understand what you like best. Now I do this: if Iโ€™m tired of the doll or I doubt its size, then I put it in a box and in a closet, after a few months I take it out ... and if there are no feelings, then I sell the doll, because I have a very large collection and already no room for new dolls

    3. My favourite size is 1/3, specifically 58-65cm. (Maybe up to 68cm - I'm waiting for a couple of these taller ones.) So many reasons!

      • Big enough to have presence and intricate detail in the sculpting.
      • They're a comfortable, deliciously heavy weight in my hands...
      • ...but not too heavy. I can still carry a doll with one hand by their hips.
      • When I sit down on the floor to pose them, I can more or less look them in the eye - which I really like, I feel like I'm communicating with them...
      • ...but they're not tall enough to headbutt me when they fall over. They faceplant on my shoulder instead - less painful!
      • 1/3s at this height tend to be in the age group that I like - youthful/adolescent. I'm not interested in having small children or grownup adults in BJD form.
      • Big variety of clothing styles to buy for them!
      • Easy to sew their clothing and add details.

    4. I really thought MSDโ€™s were my favorite size and was committed to only collecting under 47cm, but I just got my first SD boy (Aimerai Akagi - 68cm) and heโ€™s got me rethinking everything which I did not expect AT ALL. The larger doll feels a bit nicer/comforting to hold, is definitely easier to photograph, and the options for clothing seem unlimited compared to the smaller dolls. You live and you learn I guess lol.

    5. I have different sizes of dolls, yosd, msd and one Smart doll. I think MSD is my favorite size, not so small like 1/6, very nice for face-up. But small dolls are so good to travel with, if you don't have a lot of space in your backpack.

    6. 1/4 (MSD) size is by far my favorite. They are large enough to see details but easy to handle and pose for pictures. I do have some 1/3 (SD) dolls which are gorgeous, but I have a difficult time taking good pictures of them! Dollfie Dream dolls are fun and light enough for easy posing, but I get so paranoid about staining them.

    7. I now started to like 30 cm dolls - Jacoosun doll. Dolls with amazing energy, I donโ€™t want to let them out of my hands, Iโ€™m waiting for what will happen next... how long will my love for them last?

    8. My favourite size is 1/6, it just feels easier for me to deal with.

    9. When i first joined the hobby i was set on nothing but MSD and I was pretty confident it would stay that way. Well..I was wrong. I love 1/6, 1/4, and 1/3 all equally because they're all so lovely in their own ways :kitty2. 1/6 dolls feel so lovely and compact, and I love being able to just take them anywhere like a little buddy. 1/4 just feels like a good sweet spot in terms of detail, convenience, and handling.. But there really is something so satisfying about a big 1/3 girl. I got my first SD size lady a few months ago and wow. Already planning my next one!!

    10. I like all three as well :love

    11. 1/4 MSD

    12. There is something delightful about 1/12 scale BJDs - they fit your standard dollhouse and in your pocket. And they're so TINY. I love tiny things.
But my favorite size is as big as I can get. T&D has an 85 cm boy? I ordered him. Dollmore has a 4-foot-tall boy? He's on order too, and of course I have a ~3.5 foot tall Trinity.
And then there's the crown jewel of my collection...

    13. The BJD's I have the most of are PukiFees, but they are not necessarily my favourite size. I have a mixed collection, but mostly MSD and under, the smallest being RealPukis, I love them all.

    14. I used to only think I would like 1/4th scale but as soon as I got my first 1/3rd...I was hooked lol I still collect all sizes though, but the larger size is definitely my favorite.

    15. Is that the huge Magical Angel doll? I'm failing to get what scale this is but she looks person-sized :sweat
I assume the one with blue hair on the right is a Trinity? I really can't wrap my head around this.

      • x 1
    16. Yes - the huge doll in the middle is one six-foot/180-cm tall Xin Meng Doll Magical Angel Iris, and the little blue-haired girl is Dollmore Trinity Elysia, who is 112cm/~3.5 feet tall.
1:1 scale dolls are technically off topic, but there's lots of on-topic dolls in the picture too - all as big I can find.
Iris needs more, thicker elastic, which I'm hoping to do before the next doll meet. I want to bring her with me and see if any folks want to take turns sitting with her for pictures.

    17. I commend your bravery, that's a whole lot of doll to take around. I know how huge and heavy Trinity dolls are and she looks tiny in comparison.
Actually, what is the height of the doll with the loose sweater and long brown-blonde hair, right against the Iris' right knee? Are the shorter ones in the front MSD size?

    18. Ah, you've caught me being lazy. I generally like to identify all dolls/sculpts when I post pictures, but sometimes, I forget.

    19. @MaleficentMrsofEvil Oh you didn't have to... Thanks for putting so much work into this. Wow there's a massive difference between SD and 65/68cm. I think this picture really cemented that visually in my head.
