1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Do you have any "doll friends?"

Jun 19, 2011

    1. I have several local friends I have met through the hobby and then I have a couple I have dragged into it with me.

    2. Actually it is the way I met one of my best friends.
It used to be only 2 people in my country, me and my friend. Then we saw on DoA someone asking if there was anyone in Iceland a collector. We screamed with joy and arranged a meetup.
Now she is one of my best friends in the doll hobby and outside of it as well :)

I have met a lot of wonderful people through the doll hobby and been "adopted" into a friendly group as well. I love how dolls can bring such different people together.

    3. No, but I'd love to have some! I'm going to a meet for an off-topic doll in October so I'm looking forward to that. I've not been to a BJD meet yet.

    4. Nobody who's nearby. I have a few friends about an hour away, and I met some really nice people at a convention. At the last Doll North I strung a girl's Luts SD for her in the most MacGyvered way possible; I think we'll have to be doll buddies for life.

    5. Nope, but I wish I did. Never even met someone who has a bjd, let alone made friends with someone with one. Closest I ever got was a friend whose aunt collects Pullips. ):
Going to a meetup at some point though, even though after hearing some horror stories I'm terrified to take a doll out.

    6. No, sadly I don't. :b It would be nice to, though.

    7. I know there are people around where I live (Markham, ON) who are in the hobby, but I havent been able to make it for the meet...Im pretty slow with meeting new people but I'd love a dolly friend =\

    8. No, my parents appreciate them aesthetically, but aren't into them.
My ex-boyfriend/flatmate/friend thinks I'm absolutely insane for obsessing over dolls.
My brother is in the same camp more or less as my ex.

      And that's everyone... Yup.

However I live in NZ where the following is far smaller than the following in the USA UK or Australia. I have never even seen a person mention them, and it seemed like I was the only one over here until I saw a few other people on here who are also in NZ. The likelihood of me meeting anyone else in the hobby while I'm still here is slim to nill.

    9. yeah, i know that feeling. i've only been able to go to 1 of my local meets so far. it was fun, but i've honestly talked to/interacted with the people in my local BJD comm more online than i have IRL.

seems like there are a lot of people in this thread all sharing the sentiment. i would also like some people to be 'dollfriends' with online since i haven't been able to get out of the house much, so i don't know how future IRL meets are going to shape up.

maybe we should have some kind of dollfriends-personal adverts post? just for casual chatting or some kind of penpals thing. there are such a wide variety of people in this hobby that not everyone is compatible, so it would be cool if we had a post that was like "I'm looking for new BJD friends, my favorite BJDs are [this type] and [that type], but my other hobbies and interests are X Y and Z- i'm from [country] and here is a little about me like my age and what i enjoy doing for a living"

then maybe some people would find they have something more than just 'i collect BJDs' in common and could find friends more easily? after all, 2 people who collect extremely different types of BJD or who have extremely different life views or other big personality differences might not get along so well even if they are in the same hobby (i think the many debates and complete variety of different opinions on DoA prove that).

    10. My best friend actually found these dolls through me, so now we can enjoy the dolls together (and we often do). I also got my other friend in to the dollies so now I have two close friends to talk about dollies. I'm really happy, since most of my other friends don't really get the idea of having expensive dolls as an adult.

Though I would love to make more friends that are into the dolly world but for some reason that seems to be quite hard... Are doll owners really shy or something? I know I am :D

    11. Yes, I've met some nice people online. It'd be nice to eventually meet in person too ^^ Some people prefer talking about dolls only and steer clear away from any personal stuff ...I find that kind of awkward or limiting because sometimes I run out of doll things to talk about... ^^;

    12. yup, marrying one ^^

    13. while i don't think that all doll owners are introverts, i have met/talked to a lot of doll owners who are introverts, or suffer from shyness, social anxiety, etc. i think this hobby attracts those kind of people even if not EVERY person fits that description. so there are many people in the hobby who would like more friends, but find it hard to make them.

    14. I've only met others online, and only been to one doll meet. It's something I look forward to doing in the future.

    15. I have a lot in friends in Poland, because of BJD forums. We are meeting from time to time. :aheartbea

    16. I have a school friend who sorta got ne into the bjd thing :]

    17. Yes! I actually have a group of doll friends and we chat all the time on facebook, but only one of them lives in my town, the rest of them are several hours away or even in different countries, but the ones that live close by try to get together as often as we can. I also travel quite often so I always try to make time to visit them. Some of my dolls even have doll friends themselves and there's a few "resin couples" in our group :P one of my dolls (my newest girl) has a twin brother (they are the same sculpt but one is male and mine is female).
It's great because although we are from very different backgrounds, we have both males and females in our group and we come form a quite varied age group (from 17 up to 47) we all get along quite well and share a lot of stories. :D

    18. I do, but I don't really see them in real life...

    19. This is one thing that I really feel I'm missing in this hobby. I've spent time with other people in the hobby at meetups but I really envy those of you who have a close friend(s) that also have dolls. I would love to have another person with dolls that could work into my story and someone to come over and watch box openings. Unfortunately I live way out of town and there aren't a large number of hobbiests in the area. I hope that in the future I can find someone to share this with the way that I did with my sister and Barbies when we were younger :D

    20. I HAVE NO in life FRIENDS IN THE BJD HOBBY.
      It' sad...
But the ones online are great!^-*
