1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Do you have any "doll friends?"

Jun 19, 2011

    1. Online, yes. IRL - not really, no :( We had a meetup group before I moved, which was great, but around here there's nothing. I did tell a friend from a different hobby about my dolls as sewing models and she was kind of interested, but that's it (and she lives three hours away, too). I wish I had some, though. Sewing / crafting together is loads more fun, and I'd love someone to geek out over new dolls with.

    2. I wish I did, but no. :( It's my own fault, too, because I'm pretty reclusive online. I don't use Tumblr or Facebook, so I miss out on the bjd activity there, and the Houston bjd group seems to be Facebook-based, so I never go to meet-ups or anything like that.

Unless I happen to randomly meet someone holding a bjd, I think my chances of making a doll friend are slim.

    3. I didn't, but I got my mother hooked, so now I talk to her about them a lot! It's pretty cool not being the only one that understands the hobby! : D

    4. I talk to a lot of people on facebook. I love collecting and sharing my passion to everyone that will listen. I also belong to a lot of groups on facebook too.

    5. Hi there @blukissed !! I'd be happy to relay any meetups that will be happening here in Houston for you!! There should be a Christmas meet coming up soon, I believe! I'll poke the group and see what they're planning. :)

    6. Nope. Because no one else in the big city of Tulsa seems to like BJDs. :|
      XD

    7. I DO. I have my besties who are doll people and an AWESOME group here in town. I actually got to see one of them tonight when she came in to pick up a package from my store (which made me very happy) and we spent a while bemoaning the deal of the century that I missed out on. I don't get to go to meets as often as I'd like, because they're usually on Sundays and nine times out of ten I work Sundays, but that's ok, that's what Facebook chat is for. :)

    8. I have a few bjd friends on instagram. I wish I had bjd friends in my everyday life though.

    9. Yep! My best friend of probably about 15 years now got me into dolls! I've known her all my life and when she got into the doll hobby she would tell me all about her dolls and let me meet them and learn about their personalities and stuff and it was awesome fun! She helped me so much with getting into the hobby and helped my buy my first doll, she also gave me clothes for him and everything! He's still just a head at the moment but she's been such a huge help with finding a body to buy and everything. Hoping to make some new friends through the hobby too :3

    10. None at the moment, but I'm looking forward to meet and make friends with new people here who obviously have the same interests in dolls. That would be fantastic, who knows we might even end up being friends for real, right? lol
I haven't tried to tell my irl friends about this hobby yet, I'll introduce them to my first doll when he eventually arrives...somehow I can imagine they'll be amazed by the beauty of the doll, and drop dead when they find out the price tag then they'll think I've gone insane *yep:XD:

    11. I had some doll friends during childhood, but I never introduced them to BJDs--mostly because I didn't have them then. We played with modded barbies and action figures (mods to give added flexibility) and sewed our own articulated plushies (with button or sewn joints).

I'm in a completely different state from this friend now, although we don't really talk dolls anymore. I don't know where I'll be next year, but hopefully I can find some doll friends there!

(I kind of hoped to make some internet friends on DOA too.)

    12. I ws introduced to the hobby by some friends, and one of them happened to live really close to me. I got to see her huge collection of dolls and learn about all sizes/companies/models before I got my first one. I am so glad that I met her and adopted this hobby

    13. I met a girl at a Halloween party who also likes BJDs! We talked and shared pictures of the dolls we both are pinning after. I really hopped to become friends
      But.....
My girlfriend unintentionally insulted her by telling her my art was better than hers :doh
I hope I'm able to mend things with her eventually, most of my friends think dolls are "creepy"....

    14. It's sad not to have a dollfriend with whom to talk about doll in real life. Come in my house for your holidays! :)

On Web I don’t have a dollfriend, I discuss, give a point of view, a compliment, but it is limited.
I have 2 friends near home that I found by posting a message on another website. They are about 10 /15 years younger than me, but when I see them, I am very very happy. We talk doll, sewing .... but also work, life ... I adore them.:dance

    15. I actually got me best friend into dolls, and my local doll group in super friendly. I have made a few new friends through our doll meets, and having some of them help me restring my Soom quartz(he is a pain to restring >.<).

    16. I, sadly, do not. But my mom is very into collecting fairies, so I'm thinking if I can get her a doll and customize it into a fairy for her display case, that maybe she might become interested. We live in different states, which is terrible because she is my favorite person ever. But my husband is in the military, thus I haven't live in my home state for about 11 years now. So it would be nice to share something like this with her across a distance like that. I have also looked into conventions in Texas, where I currently live, and I think I'll try attending one this upcoming year. Hopefully I could meet some people there :)

    17. no i dont! :...( the closest thing i have is my best friend who know im into collecting dolls and some physical therapists at the hospital who ask at what im looking at on the computer (the last time i was in there i looked at dolls on the internet for about a week straight) snd listen to me go on about dolls sometimes (but i did only recently decide to get one so maybe ill find a friend soon :sweat)

    18. By some sort of miracle I found a friend group that is interested in BJDs that I've somewhat latched onto, three of them currently owning BJDs. It's great to be able to talk to people in the hobby IRL without going through the trouble of finding a formal doll meet. It was a complete surprise to find people that were interested, I forgot the comment that triggered the conversation but I'd say we were both surprised to find that we shared this interest. For those that are waiting to find people to talk to, just keep your options open and don't judge right away. You may be surprised to find who also shares the hobby!

    19. One of my college friends is into BJDs as well. We talk about it constantly and she was the first person I told when I got my first doll. Unfortunately she still doesn't have a doll yet. Hopfeully by next year tho.

    20. I used to have a friend who was into BJD's when I still lived in Finland. Now - I don't really have anyone I can talk about dolls. Sure I try to explain them to my fiancee, but it would be nice to find people with dolls here in UK too. :)
