1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

    1. I am guilty of purchasing new dolls before while waiting for other dolls, and I'm currently planning some new purchases so that's not changing any time soon! I really don't see anything wrong or shameful (if that's the right word) with it.

I really don't think there's a problem with owning even 100+ dolls as long as it's something you can comfortably afford and the doll purchases aren't impacting your quality of life. I find a lot of people in the hobby try to rationalize or explain why they have so many dolls when there really isn't a problem at all given that they're not falling behind on bills and necessities. You collect dolls. Someone else collects shoes. I promise you the cost is similar/probably higher for the shoe person, but you never see the shoe collectors having to come up with explanations. Embrace it!

    2. Actually my mother is a self proclaimed "collector" of many things including shoes & purses she has so many it's not even funny half of the purses and shoes she buys are not even branded and she has worn or uses a handful at best of both shoes and purses. She uses the explanation|(s) of well I need new shoe/purse as such shoe/purse is old/falling apart etc ( they are like brand new or lightly used is most cases) her closet is full like if you open it it will fall on you. She also collects salt and pepper shakes (ok some are cute and I have a few that I had to leave at her place when i moved to the UK) but she also collects figurines, plates, bowls, silverware, jugs, cookie jars, glasses (cups mugs the like), drink jugs the list goes on.

Same woman is complaining to me that my gemstone collection, "dumb" book collection (self help, herbal medicine, craft, woodworking, kids, new age books the like), Sewing pattern collection, yarn collection (least I actually use my yarn) and now my quickly growing BJD collection cost lots of money and I should be wiser with money etc etc and sell some of it off.

I/we (husband is acutally into the stuff I collect and adds to it!) can pay all the bills we still have money left over even after buying (new or used) books, sewing patterns, gemstone,BJDs etc. and if we had a credit card or even load I know we could and can meet or exceed the minuim which is good.

My mother (along with my father he just goes along with it) on the other hand can barely pay normal bills on any given month, as well as a car payment, and has 4-6 credit cards she borrows money off of to pay one of the other ones.

So what I'm saying is there is nothing wrong with collecting. Some collectors like say my mother do make excuses. some manage money better then others. The only thing I think is shameful is one collector trying to tell another to be more money wise when they are worse at money then the person they told that to lol. Plus side tho most of the stuff can be sold if need be unless your like my mother and then thats a nothing is going to be sold lol.

    3. You write novels? thats pretty cool. I wish I could but my grammar and spelling well quite frankly suck and I'm more then sure I suck at sentance and paragraphs and anything else I would need to understand to write a book. But it's something I would love to do at some point.

I think it's cool you have a dedicated savings for the dolls, think I'll have to do that too fantastic idea! and totaly get wanted limiteds some are stunning! I have my eye on 2 doll zone dolls atm not limited but have a 12% off deal going on and they have a tan skin thing going on to and it looks really nice. But the 2 dolls are not limited but then again I don't see the tan option through my dealer other then this tan skin event thingy.

    4. Yes, I have several novels, novellas and short stories published. Writing, like any thing else, requires practice to become good at it and the fun part of that is doing the actual writing itself. I always tell people to write for themselves first. Write what you like, what interests you. If you happen to have others like your work, bonus! You can always learn grammar, spelling and sentence structure (which is kinda boring) but once you learn it, you're good to go.

I typically put some money aside off of each pay. How much depends on the size of said pay and what I need to pay as life expenses. Even putting aside $25 adds up before you know it. The doll savings is also my "fun money" account and gets used for other things besides dolls and I've even used it as emergency funds. I also have the account set up in such a way so that I can't use my debit card to make in-store/point-of-sale purchases with it. I have to either take money out via an ATM or go to a teller in the bank. This helps me keep the cash in the account because it's harder for me to randomly access it and makes me think about what I'm purchasing with that money.

I have quite a number of limited dolls but I didn't intend/plan for that or go specifically looking for limited dolls. They just happened to be the perfect sculpt for certain characters. I generally end up getting them long after the sales period is done, too.

    5. Well I funny enough I found a online course on writing & book writing so jumped on it. I will defo need to set up a savings specially for dolls as I already have one for emergencies and that one gets a large interest paid in when I don't touch it. Down side it's with another bank and I'm lucky if I can remember my log in details half the time :S

Might I ask what your novels, novellas and short stories are generally about?

    6. I write sci-fi/fantasy/paranormal m/m romance novels. My publisher went under in a very messy way and I've yet to find a new one. I do have some of my stories hosted on a pay site, but a lot of them I have posted as free reads on my author journal or on Ao3. If you'd like to read some, feel free to PM me and I can link you.
Big Mystic Smoke stories are set in our world with characters like Demons, Nephil, shifters, Nagas, Wights, Dryads, etc. although typical humans have no idea that they're sharing the world with those creatures.
The Dream Time stories are set in the future in another galaxy with the majority of the species ones I've created. There is a LOT of world building here and many of the stories are interconnected although I've done it in such a way so that they can all be read as stand alones without the reader wondering what the heck is going on.
Divine Worship stories are set sometime in the very distant past and focuses on gods and their lovers. Most of the characters are some type of fantasy species like Elves, Fairies, Jinn, Demons, etc.
ZA stories are set in the modern day during the zombie apocalypse.

    7. OMG those sound AWSOME!

    8. So I joined in June. I bought 4 on topic dolls and 3 off topic dolls(two for myself and one for my spouse) in the first month. Then I bought myself 5 more on topic dolls (and 3 I am not sure are on or off topic... but they probably are) last year after that first month, and my spouse one more. Plus I have 3 extra heads I bought last year. So far this year I've purchased 3 dolls and a head, two of them literally yesterday. And I currently have 5 more in my cart to buy before the event ends... but not this paycheck.

So I'm not walking this hobby. I'm sprinting. And I need to be stopped.

    9. Sound like we both diving in to this hobby :). If your not sure if they are on topic ask the mods heck if not for them I would have thought my Flora (off topic BJD) was ok. I'll admit I have been tempted to buy a few off ebay and I'm more then sure they are recasts but man they have a doll chateau snail one and it's super cute! and there is another one I have no clue who made it but it's a spyhix cat one I love it to but I'm trying to stay away from recasters. I already have around 2-4 waiting for me to buy themI'm debating wither I buy the doll zone dolls in tan with the skin even and the 12% off OR buy the Myou dolls I like in coffee skin as I really want to get these lil egpytian charaters brought to life lol.

    10. I think I have a slight addiction, lol. I love making things for my dolls, and when I see my dolls together it makes me really happy :D

      • x 1
    11. Well they're kind of pet bjds so I won't be posting them without their non-pet counterparts anyway so it doesn't exactly matter.

And I like to buy secondhand from Facebook.

Almost half of my dolls are Dream Valley and the ones in my cart right now are too.

Doll Zone does tend to have long wait times so maybe that will play a factor in who you want.

    12. I have to agree atm I have made a small knited blanket for my smallest BJD which is a luts delf louis think he is like 16cm tall.
Also working on a larger knit blanket for my larger dolls. have some tartan type fabric as well as checkered, floral and polka dot that I'm going to make into skirts and a kilt "man skirt" ;) also have lace in various colours to go on the female clothes.
I love the look of doll zone doll specially the one's called Jade & Rosen so cute but for them plus tan resin I can get the 2 myou dolls doudou boy and girl versions for a bit less and to be fair they are super cute to albet smaller then the doll zone dolls

    13. well... I don't know if I should call it an addiction... but when I think about it, maybe...
Sometimes I feel like my life is going somewhere else and I have so many things in my head that I almost forget about my dolls, but then, one day I look at them and *baaammm* I'm back into the hobby...
But on the other hand "addiction" seems to negative to describe my behaviour... It is an expensive hobby and I love it... but it is not destroying my life (at least I hope so...)
I have met wonderful people because of the hobby and I really love my dolls but I don't spend money I don't have, it doesn't affect my job and neither does it affect my social life or even my health. So... even if it is an addiction, it could be worse XD

      • x 1
    14. Thats the thing tho ain't it some addictions are negative and thus when addiction is brought up it's negative and shameful. Like being addicted to swimming which when I was little it was hard for my family to get me out of any body of water that was deemed safe to swim in. That is until my aunt tried to drowned me multipul times so that stopped my addiction to swimming the fear of someone drowning me was stronger then my addication to swim.

But again depending on the addiction it should not be thought of as bad.. Like BJDs addiction. As long as it's not causing you any hard hardship I say party on lol

      • x 1
    15. I guess I am "addicted" but it's more about time invested than the amount of dolls, ahaha :P

When I first started out, I ended up selling off my Pullip dolls to fund my BJD ventures, and I did buy two dolls (a MSD Withdoll Ruby Elf and a SD Fairyland hybrid) with the funds I had within the same week or so to help me figure out about how I felt about bjd sizes... I quickly ended up selling the SD and found myself in love with the MSD & below sizes.
After that I've bought various bjd bits (some bodies, some heads, some full dolls...), most of which I've sold since a lot of it was trial and error to figure out what I liked and wanted. ^^; But generally, I'd sell one bjd to get another doll or something like that; I always paid for my dolls in-full as I was trying to figure things out.

Right now I have two full dolls, one currently on order from the company, a few floating heads, and one doll that I've sold on layaway... and I've been in the hobby for about two years right now? So in terms of quantity at any given time, I never had a lot at once. Which is honestly for the best, probably; bjds and their boxes can take up a lot of space, and I might be moving in with my boyfriend in the next year or so, and we would probably have a studio apartment anyways. ^^; So overall, I am trying to look at it in a "quality vs quantity" kind of way, eg weighing the happiness I'd get from several dolls I love vs a lot of dolls that I like.

But, as far as the time I spend looking into BJD stuff... It's a lot ^^; I often check the MP everyday, sometimes multiple times, especially for doll clothing. I have spent a lot more time looking into what types of dolls I want rather than building up a wardrobe, regrettably, since the style of clothing I like for dolls is not very popular/common >_>; When I was newer in the hobby I had a much bigger wishlist (like 35 dolls or something) but it's shrunk considerably since then, lol. There is a few dolls I might pick up given the opportunity, but in general, I only have like... 11 dolls on my wishlist, I think?

So it's more of a "hyper focus" rather than obsession, I suppose. xD

    16. "hyper focus" seems to be a perfect fit! It sounds so much better than addiction! love it :love

    17. I would love to buy the heads but knowing me I want a body it can go on which lets face it heads and neck sizes vary and if you think you found the perfect body only to have hopes dashed to a extant because the neck size it to small or to large ( I find with the heads I like vs the bodies I like the neck is small and the head is big). You still have a smaller wish list then me lol I think I'm in at least the 70's+ now with my doll wish list. What style of clothing do you like? I know the style I like for the most part I'll have to make like dark ages type or sci-fyi, fanasty types. Vaild points to with doll collecting and I'm sure my view will change once I get my dolls which I was just informed by my dealer that my luts tiny delf louis with face up as well as his wig is on the way I did order green eyes that were in stock but turns out they were not. Also getting Ringdoll grown Rinku, along with some eyes I know should fit him again 1 colour for him turned out to not be instock so seller asked if it was ok to send one that was similar in colour which I was cool with as well as a little wig for my doll chateau ada doll along with another wig and a wig cap that I'm going to try using to do my own wig.

But ya hopefully the BJD manina will tone down once I get my dolls lol

    18. Yeah... I am not doing anything that hurts me (financially, psychologically, or anything like that) - it's just something that I enjoy. XD I just spend a lot of time with it; it's quite soothing and I enjoy the creativity it helps spark. ^^ I don't have much for "vices" either (I don't drink, smoke, etc) so at least with dolls, I can always sell them later on if I decided that I don't like them very much, they don't fit my plans, or what. :P I might loose money or have to spend awhile to sell it, but that's just about with any secondhand market and material goods.

Trust me, I know that feeling well, LOL. BJD proportions, jointing, etc. can vary wildly from doll to doll and for example, I like dolls that I don't have to "pull out" the joints to make them pose. I knew that I liked the idea of double joints when available, but I didn't know that some joints could vary so much from each other, like souldoll nl body compared to doll leaves. :'D I have had some issues with proportions, too... I found myself in love with mature msds (Souldoll, Withdoll, etc) which tend to have heads that run smaller than say, minifee, but they have heads bigger than "fashion msds" like Raccoondoll, so it's kind of an awkward balancing act I am... trying to maintain. |D I guess it helps me from spending more money though, since otherwise I'd probably want a dozen minifees too :P

And I like similar clothing! I like medieval, "pagan," neo-celtic, mori, dark mori, etc. and other time of "fantasy" type of clothing - a lot of stuff that, even if not necessarily historically correct, bring to mind stuff from the medieval period or before. It can be a mish-mash of cultures to a degree, but that's often relative to the character specifically.

I love the idea of science-fiction, "dystopia" inspired clothing (some of which miiight be able to pass with my dolls), steampunk, or even more futuristic, "space opera-y" clothing, but right now I am trying to keep my dolls within the first "aesthetic range" the best I can. :P

      • x 2
    19. I like the idea of the other type of clothing that sounds awsome did not think of steampunk lol even tho I have gear buttons running around lol! I love celtic/pagan clothing trying to remember what mori is tho.... Balancing acts are hard. I agree with selling them on if you fall out of love with them and having no "vices" like drinking, smoking etc is great more money for dolls ;P lol. I kinda hope I don't have to sell my dolls tho mostly because I'm a stubborn mule lol

    20. Well i finally got my Ringdoll Rinku along with my Luts tiny delf Louis. And my 2 year old dd managed to get up on the self that had my DC (Doll Chateau) Ada doll she was pulling one of her back legs of course the hooks are super tiny and must have straighten and well she is now down a leg im crushed and now have to restring her leg and either repair the hook, make or buy a new one.

Ringdolls Rinku's ( Virgil from here on out) head is smaller then i first thought even with the DH helping make up a visual on roughly the size of his head. The sculpt of his head is nice i like it and the body its muscular and looks more man then boy which is nice. I also got another set of hands with him well fists to be correct which is nice. But his knees keep bending even when im trying to keep him straight legged which if trying to stand him that way he keeps snapping forward and his knees bend at the same time which sucks finding this out at the same time you have a once over inspection and you get clocked in the face! He also makes a god awful squeaky grinding noise when trying to pose i found spots of hard but smooth rubber stuff in the arm and leg sockets but i dont feel they contribute to anything so unsure why its there (felting?) As the joints still mostly move freely. Overall nice but think strings are to tight so i either try and restring him or i heard bending him constantly for a week or 2 or even adding a weight (small of course) to hang from his neck hook for a bit will stretch him out a bit and make him more loose. So might go with whatever has me not doing a restring.

Luts tiny delf Louis ( Lulu from here on out) is super cute had a face up already and looks super cute with a red lil wig i bought for her. Sadly my dealer had not 1 but 2 items that were really not instock including some green eyes i wanted for Lulu. Cant remember if she refunded for those eyes or not but i have gone online and ordered some from another company. Lulu it not overly tight its mostly just her legs but at this point its not to much of a issue compared to trying to keep the wig on her head which i have now gone on to order a small silicone wig cap for her.

With the above said i am no debating on wither i buy 2 myou dolls (doudou boy and girl version) with coffee skin ( already bought eyes and wigs that would fit them as well as other dolls) or if I should buy a Luts baby delf Gabriel in normal brown with no body blush but unsure if i want a face up done on her already or if i want to do it.. keep thinking about that as well as Iron_Dog ZA stories which btw thanks again Iron_Dog i i really love the stories so far so now im addicted to Bjds and zombie stories
