1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Do you hide your hobby from certain people?

Jun 9, 2014

    1. Kind of in fact.I don't wanna look like a geek,but I'm a geek.So it doesn't matter to me.Let's be free!

    2. When it comes to friends I usually forget about it and it will come up randomly as we talk. Most of my friends are supportive and kind so if they don't like them they will politely say it's spooky. So I'll be less likely to send them pictures unless I'm really proud of my work. Just respecting their boundaries.
But then sometimes I talk to groups of people online during streams and tell them about it openly. Occasionally there's someone who super creeped about it and I'll tease them the most. But I never actually show the dolls or anything. Usually just stick to my work for those events. It's always light hearted. No one is ever super offended.

    3. My whole family knows I'm pretty much into cute dolls and things, I don't get weird looks at all, I do believe some people judge me but that's fine because not everyone understands the likes of another.

    4. I don't hide the fact that I collect dolls, but I do get red in the face when I tell people that I do.

    5. I was so hesitant to tell my fiance when we first started dating, I even used to put her away when he would stay over and every time I would whisper an apology to her because I felt guilty that I was that concerned over what someone thought of my interests. One day I just thought whatever, if a doll is a deal breaker for him then he doesn't deserve me anyways because I shouldn't feel silly about something that makes me happy, so I just left her out on display when he came over and it wasn't a big deal at all. We live together now and I leave all my dolls out on display and have them in our room and he doesn't mind at all, he's very respectful of them and asks questions sometimes.

    6. I don't go out of my way to hide it but I usually don't mention it when asked about my hobby's/interest.

    7. some of my friends...they always think dolls are scary, or relate them with something...such as sex.
      :)That's rude..

    8. I don't exactly hide my doll hobby from my friends, I do however act a lot less interested and passionate about the hobby when I talk to my friends. Aside from my friends however, I am very open about them and I take Avian with me almost everywhere. My family is pretty accepting about it. I've always been a bit 'odd' so I think they are used to it.

    9. I hide my hobby from people that I am not close to. As some people think its creepy as some might think its wasting of money. since even my family know my hobby and think its creepy and was told not to display it.

    10. Yes, since there are people in my family who think that dolls are only for children.

    11. Yess..I'm kind of odd too. I usually talk about my hobby with someone who has dolls too...But most of my friends are very open about them..so it's fine..:D

    12. Yeeeeeeeeeeeeah i sorta doo.. Sadly.
Like none of my sisters are perticularly creative or open minded, they both think that these dolls are either creepy, unneccesarrily expensive or just plain stupid. "You're wasting your money" is very popular with them..

    13. Unfortunately that's such a common response with people. At this point I just say "yeah but it's my money so why do you care?"

    14. A friend gave me a better response to go with that actually! Both my sisters smoke so the response would be "Do you smoke huh? Yes you do. Do you have any idea how much you spend every month on litterely smoke? Don't judge me when you also "waste" your money"
Lil passive aggresive, but i'm so tired of their bs xD

    15. so true. I quit smoking hard stop which was easy because i've only been doing it a year, and I have so so much more money to spend on extra things now (ahem doll clothes) but I feel like i'm not literally throwing away money when i'm spending the cigarette money on doll stuff because it's not hurting anyone or myself then

    16. I intend to hide the hobby from my parents -- they weren't terribly supportive years ago when I first discovered it and I doubt they'll be supportive now.

But the difference is, then I was a middle schooler and I'd never be able to afford one with their help -- but I'm an adult now so I if I can afford a doll, it's really none of their business anyway! :P

    17. Yes . Because I cannot imagine what will they think about "a man who collects a doll" although i only collect BJD doll :huh?:

    18. I'd be too scared to tell anyone. The kids in my class are already judgemental enough, they don't need another reason to call me creepy and weird :eusa_sile

    19. This got me thinking, I'm really open about my hobbies with everyone, but it might be better if I keep quiet when my dads around. Honestly I don't think he would have a strong negative reaction, but instead be really, really annoying.
I can just picture him talking about how I spent a hundred dollars on a stupid doll, whenever I have the doll out, talking to his friends and to random people we meet in a restaurant.

    20. My mom and sister know. My hubby also knows though I don't think he gets it asking what I plan to do with my dolls like play with them.
My best friend knows since we both entered the hobby together, it's really nice knowing a fellow doll lover in person though I wish I had more such people.
