1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Do you keep clothes or eventually sell them?

May 19, 2019

    1. I keep all my clothes, but I've been wanting to sell a few because they don't fit the characters anymore.

    2. I am new, but I know that I will absolutely be a clothes hoarder! Is there a secondhand market for BJD clothes apart from meetups?

    3. I prefer to sell the clothes that aren't being used. My dolls tend to end up with one outfit, especially if they're an oc that I draw in that one outfit anyway.
I've had good luck with selling, even handmade clothes!
Now accessories, I do hoard. :evilplot:

    4. I keep favourite items that I use a lot, or clothes that fit dolls with less standard measurements; but other items I sell on, especially if my dolls don’t wear them very often. I have limited space, and I like to make room for new things.

    5. I have a TON of clothing, but I only sell if there’s an emergency and need quick money, and don’t want sell a doll. It hasn’t happened in over a year though, so I just keep accumulating.

…at least when a new doll comes in they never lie around naked. :sweat

    6. They have so many clothes. If the doll came full set, I usually just put away the set, wigs and shoes included, but I wont sell the set, even if the doll doesn't use it.
I love to sew, and I make them new outfits often. If I make one of them something new, I go a little crazy, and then make them all something new. I bought them their own smaller drawers, and that is now bulging with bjd clothes, not to mention the Christmas, Easter, and Halloween, and school outfits, clothes I have stored for them separately.

I don't sell the clothes, I just keep them, I like that they have a versatile wardrobe.

    7. Once you have marketplace access, you’ll find a very active secondhand market for clothing right here on DoA.:)

As for me, I got into BJDs in the first place to explore my life-long fascination with fashion. And after many years in the hobby, I now have a large selection of dolls and an even larger amount of clothing for them! Each of my dolls has a style all their own and a wardrobe to match. Sewing is a huge part of the fun for me with this hobby. So no…hoarding clothes is more my style. I don’t sell.;)

    8. I try to keep as much clothes as possible, since I have lots of different dolls. If something doesn't fit my BJDs, maybe it will fit my other dolls. But if in the end I don't like the clothes or they don't fit any of my dolls, I'd rather sale them than keep them for nothing.

    9. I have a formidable amount of doll clothes but I am also no stranger to selling them. I make most of my stuff, and I am (by now) regularly sorting out stuff that I don't want to keep anymore or it never worked for any character in the first place into lots and destash them that way hoping they might help someone else on a very tight budget. Some company clothes, no matter how nice, are really hard to sell and it gets very tiring. So I save my energy for when I'm up for it. I have not bought a huge amount of clothes over the years, but I keep pieces that I really like, often even if I don't know how I will use them... At least for 5 years :XD: I get as attached to a favorite pair of pants as to a doll so I find it comforting to collect the clothes.
However, I have no interest in being consumed by too much stuff nor to hoard what might be much better used elsewhere so eventually I do try my best to sell stuff.

    10. I used to sell anything I wasn't currently using, but now I can't bring myself to sell any clothes. I've had this little jacket that didn't fit any of my dolls, but I tried it on my DC Twinkle when she arrived. It fits her perfectly! So I never know when something might work out~

    11. As long as the clothes fit a doll I currently own I usually will hold on to them even if I have no immediate plans on using them.
I justify keeping them because clothes are so easy to store and do not take up much room.

    12. I make most of the clothes for my guys and depending on what world they belong to, they'll generally have a specific style. Some dolls have outfits that you'll never be able to pry out of their hands while other dolls will wear whatever. Some have what I'd call signature pieces for lack of a better word as it's what they wear pretty much exclusively.

I have some outfits that I've made specifically for certain dolls that they refuse to wear. That's very irritating but since I have a rather good sized collection in both numbers and sizes, more than likely somebody will end up wearing it. This happened earlier this week with a dark cherry pink velvet outfit I made for Oleander because he adores pink (I hate pink). After making it and putting it on him I realized he doesn't like it because it covers him far too much for his tastes.

I have no idea what price I could sell things for that I make. I'm not a professional seamstress but I am experienced in sewing all manner of things and have been sewing for about 45 years. I sew by hand as well and all seams are sewn twice (running stitch for main seam, blanket stitch on the edges to help prevent fraying) so there's a good deal of time involved in making something.

    13. I keep them all.
My thoughts are - more clothes, more I can mix and match.
If something doesn't suit my current dolls, they may go with a future one!
I'd hate to sell something, and regret it later if I get a doll and go "oh, that item I sold would have looked perfect with them" :sigh

    14. I tend to keep most of my doll clothes. If there are pieces I don't want anymore, I will include them as extras with a doll I'm selling.

    15. If I like a piece enough to buy it, it tends to stay in the collection forever...
Or at least until it degrades and flakes apart into a total mess.

*eyes some older pleather things while shaking a tiny fist*

    16. I like to keep a rotation of outfits for display, but there are some clothes I’ve gotten as freebies from other doll related orders (mostly from eBay) that I have no idea what to do with and should probably try to sell.

    17. It never seems worth it to me to resell unwanted clothes but I tend to toss some in as freebies with a doll sale. Then if the new owner doesn't have anything for them to wear yet, they can at least have something to keep them warm and modest until their owner dresses them to their liking. Now I wonder how far some of those items have gone in the circle of freebies, hopefully someone liked them enough to keep

    18. uhhhggg im a clothes hoarder TTuTT... I bought a starter outfit for my doll when i first got her, and it was the first outfit, for my first BJD ever, and the nostalgic feeling of 'hey ive ALWAYS wanted a bjd, i finally got a bjd, and this was her first outfit, ill just keep this right here /into drawer/"

    19. Sometimes I see people who seem to buy frequently new doll clothes, do a photoshoot or two in them, and then immediately sell them in their like-new condition. I've seen it quite a few times.

To be honest, it's a pretty smart way to avoid spending a lot of money on doll clothes, since the money you get back from selling them goes to funding the next outfit set.

I kind of want to get into that habit, but I find it hard to part with the clothes :sweat I worry that I'll regret selling them later. Like what if I get a new prop in the future and realize I could have redone a particular photoshoot if I hadn't sold the outfit used in it or something? Some outfits would probably be hard or expensive to re-buy too.

For now I'll stick to being a clothes hoarder lol

    20. I'm still figuring out how to sell clothes, particularly since the market looks saturated and has been for years. I also don't know how popular the doll sizes I have are, which would also influence demand.

I do sometimes take a third option from keeping and selling. I've taken apart old clothes I made years ago, and sewn them into something new. It's satisfying seeing how far I've gone skill wise.
