Do you like the smell of resin?

Jul 19, 2014

    1. My 5 Star Becca is arriving later today. When I open her box I'll pay attention to how she smells and see if I detect any resin or chemical odor.

    2. OK, my Becca has no smell whatsoever. I took a good sniff when I opened her box and again after I had her out for a while. I guess it depends on the company and how they formulate their resin.

    3. Yes! For me, it puts a huge smile on my face because I know when I smell fresh resin, I'm either opening a BRAND NEW doll or holding my dolls that I love so dearly <3

    4. Yes!
And I was kind of sad that when I opened up my first bjd, I had a blocked nose, so I couldn't fully appreciate the smell at first!

    5. I haven't noticed any smell and I'm very sensitive to odors.

    6. I really don't like it. I'm at least sensitive to resin dust, if not mildly allergic. The smell gives me mild allergy symptoms (like hay feverish).

    7. I do like the new doll smell though I tend to get a headache if I smell it for a prolonged period of time. :C

    8. It depends. I don't really care for the smell when it is overpowering. I have a doll box for a doll I've had for years now and it still smells like new resin dust no matter how much I've tried to get it out!
However, I really don't mind it when the smell is a bit more subtle. It is a bit chemically though so I don't make it a habit of breathing too much in!

    9. I love it -w-;;; but then again I like the smell of various fumes too, like gasoline. It makes no sense considering there's a ton of smells that really do bother me but I can't help liking what I like. That being said, I do my best not too breathe too much in as I am rather wary of what it could do to my lungs. xD;

    10. I doooooo. To me it smells like awesome.

      Let me explain myself here.

When I opened my doll, it smelled like acrylic paint to me. I blinked and tried to figure out what the scent was, and then it hit me. "Oh. This is the resin smell everyone talks about."

Hah. It reminds me of new dolls, why wouldn't I like it? :')

    11. I like the smell of resin it makes me happy cause the doll is fresh and new and its very exciting lol. :D

    12. I haven't picked up my second doll in the mail yet but I never noticed any particular smell on my first girl, nor did I ever feel the urge to sniff her, haha. I have no idea what that smell everyone talks about is like, but I often wonder.

    13. Yes, I do like it! I'm guessing that's partly because I relate it to getting a doll.

    14. Meh, I definitely don't go out of my way to inhale it, because it's dangerous. My second doll smelled of resin at first and occasionally if I use an X-acto knife to get sealant or something to remove a face-up I will get a whiff; I don't think that's enough to cause health problems, but I try to avoid it. I haven't tried sanding yet because I don't have a mask.

    15. Coming from a household that works primarily in nail salons, I've grown accustomed to the smell of acrylic paint- and as such, I'm absolutely in love with the smell of resin :love

That being said, none of my dolls have had a strong resin smell, so that could be a factor into it.

    16. I couldn't really smell the resin on my first doll that came in straight for the company. I couldn't even describe it to you. What does new resin smell like?

    17. Yes, a nearly embarassing amount. There is a photo of me at a meet up mass box opening (Customhouse sale days) where my face is buried in a doll box.

    18. I do like the smell of resin. :3nodding: It's mild and pleasant to me (not stingy, strong or anything that I don't usually like in scents).

    19. I like it, especially the quick whiff you get when opening a new doll box for the very first time. I think it's a sort of Pavlovian response where I associate it with a new doll, hence the enjoyment.

    20. It was an interesting smell. In all honesty, to me it is the smell of success. Success because I was able to father to funds to make the purchase and because I was able to be patient and wait for it's arrival.

      I guess I like it.
