Do you like the smell of resin?

Jul 19, 2014

    1. I'll admit that I kinda like it. It's a smell I associate with getting a new doll! I also like the way vinyl dolls smell so...maybe I'm just weird. Heh.

@Allie27 - The new doll scent does fade over time. But, if you keep them boxed up a lot it tends to linger. I keep all my dolls in a closet together (unboxed) and the closet smells like resin. You get a whiff whenever you open it.

    2. Not really? It's odd since I can't imagine being without a resin doll... but I can't say I like the smell. I tend to avoid anything that has chemicals, BJDs are the only thing that beats my obsession, so I don't really like the smell.... but I only find resin smells if you keep them closed off. Like shut in their box or in a closed room that never gets any air.

    3. Once the doll is on the shelf the smell goes after a few weeks or months it depends on the doll. However if you put the doll in an enclosed container and you open it you will smell the smell again. Which means that the smell never stops. I have some dolls from 2004 and if you put them in a container you will smell the resin smell after a few days when you open the box. if you take the doll into another room and smell it you won't sell the resin smell or it will be very faint lingering on the clothing maybe. This is from dolls that were out for years and never boxed. This surprised me I just learned about it due to moving house and having to store my dolls away.

I'm thinking it might not be a good thing to sleep in the same room as the dolls if you have a lot of them.

    4. I see, thank you.

    5. My boy used to have a nice resin-y smell but its since 'gone' haha, but yes I did like it xD

    6. Yes, I do.

I don't even know why, but then again I love many 'synthetic' or weird smells.

    7. I love it haha. I always sniff brand new dolls, but find that the smell fades after a while.

    8. Yes, definitely! I store my dolls on box, so those smells last quite a long.

    9. I do! I can't really explain why though hahaha.

    10. I like sweet scents myself so I'm not a fan of resin. Now be baking an apple pie and I'll be there sniffing the air. ;)

    11. I love the smell. For some reason it smells sterile to me.

    12. Indeed I do, but I'm not quite sure why though.

    13. I dont hate the smell itself, but i dont like it because i know its toxic. And therefore I keep all my dolls in a closed, almost airproof plastic box. And whenever i open it a strong resin smell comes out. So when i take them out I keep the box open for some minutes in a closed room with a open window to remove the fumes first.

I keep them in this box because I dont want to get exposed to the vapour from the dolls as we dont really know the health risks from it. Also I have a theory that it prevents them form yellowing, as oksygene also might be a part of this prosess.

      :?

    14. Nope, I don't like the smell of resin. But if I do smell it, I know it means they are kinda new and I'll feel a little happy.
But generally, nope. My nose is a little more sensitive to smell, not that I sneeze easily, but I can smell scent pretty well.
So resin smell is kinda urgh to me. :ablah: Same goes to MSC sprays, glue, certain perfume, and smoke..*_*

    15. I don't really know, since I got a brand new mirodoll a while ago (which are infamous for the crazy resin smell) and I could not feel the smell at all. It didnt really smell like anything to me.

    16. No, i am afraid that i am not a fan of the resin smell. I don't find it offensive but i know that the dust from it is toxic. I love natural fibres, so my dolls are just the vehicle for lovely clothes and wigs.

    17. Smell of new doll! :XD: Yep, I like it. (and fine it keeps not for long, just a week or two)

    18. Yes! Though I also normally like chemical smells.

Though I think it's not so much the smell itself as it is the feelings associated with it. Excitement of a new doll, or that sort of relaxation of opening the doll cabinet. It's a very specific smell, and good thoughts.

    19. Yes, To me, New Resin smell is like New Car Smell. I just love it.

    20. I don't have a good sense of smell, so I'm a bit indifferent to the smell sometimes. If I can smell it, then the scent is probably too strong.
