1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Do you make clothes for your doll?

Sep 17, 2010

    1. I can't sew but I can crochet. I haven't tried doll clothes yet but maybe I will now!

    2. I sew most of my doll clothes, but that's because I find sewing a fun and relaxing activity. ^^; I was also a cosplayer, so I'm pretty good at interesting bits like armor and nontraditional clothing items. I just finished making a pair of leather pants for one of my girls tonight, and I'm pretty happy with how they turned out.

    3. I don't have my own doll yet, but that's what I'm planning to do. I'm planning all my characters out before hand. ha ha ha. though knowing me, I'll probably break down and buy an outfit anyway. XD

    4. Yes, although it's been an experience working on technique. I'm so glad my friend can mostly show me how to not screw it up too bad.

    5. I do all the clothes myself, be it sewing of knitting. When I received my first doll about a year ago, I sucked pretty bad but determination kept me going and now I can do most things I want, patterns also, it's kind of a creative outlet for me (like everything that concerns my dolls ^^) I wouldn't dream on ever buying any clothes for my doll, 'cause it would somehow feel wrong to make them wear something I didn't do mysef. I want them to be as custom as I can make them, it feels nice to know that for example this or that dress is one of a kind ^^

    6. Sometimes, but I'm limited in what I can do decently so I do buy a lot stuff. Sewing is one of those things where every so often I really feel motivated to sit down and make something, but for the most part, it's not what I really enjoy about the hobby -- I prefer creating characters and doing faceups.

    7. I make about 99 percent of my dolls' clothes. I really love making things from vintage and antique fabrics, and natural fibers with interesting textures. Unfortunately, my poor sewing machine died this week! It's killing me that I can't do any sewing right now!

    8. What's a sloper?

    9. A sloper is a basic pattern or block made from card, typically without seam allowances, that makes up the basic shapes of a pattern (e.g. bodice, sleeves, collar etc) which you then use to draft your own pattern pieces from.

    10. Let's say, I want to.
I'm not sure if my sewing skills are good enough, but if I get my first doll I will try for sure. I have some experience with sewing but mostly only bags or stuff for my home, a few days ago I sewed a kitty scarf XD which wasn't that difficult but still a major step for me ;)

    11. I plan on it.

    12. I don't have that ability.
I only look through sites and pick what I like on mine

    13. I have, but my sewing skills aren't the greatest... so I'm never very happy with the outcome. Because of that they usually tend to wear purchased items.

    14. Yes I do, although I mostly get so far with them then have to put them aside when a deadline fro something else to be done interfere's. Since I have tremedous trouble restarting a project once it's been interrupted, I have a crate of unfinshed doll-sewing waiting to be finsihed and only a few outfits I have actually completed.

    15. Yes I do. Sort of... I wish I could do it better, but I'm still learning =)

    16. Haha, I'm only 14, but I've been sewing just random things since I was 6, so its only natural that I started sewing clothes for my first boy that I got around 9 months ago :)

    17. One of the many reasons that I told my parents that I was going to use to to learn to make patterns, so now I've made a few shirts and I'm going to be working on more and more things as time goes by. ^,^ it's cheeper to make stuff for her then it is for me so good deal in the long run ^,^

    18. Definitely! My girl hasn't even shown up yet, and I'm busy sewing her a wardrobe. Part of why I got into the hobby in the first place, is that I like to sew clothes, especially ones I would never wear in real life.

    19. Same here! I got into this hobby for the sewing. :P But Hero doesn't have hardly any clothes...

    20. My initial plan for buying my first bjd was to work on my pattern drafting skills and scaling patterns in different sizes. I've sewn since 1977, was a costumer designer in college, started knitting 20 years ago, and spinning my own yarn (at least yarn worth using) about 6 years ago. Hand spun yarn is too precious to toss so those little bits leftover yarns are perfect for doll knitwear. I love making garments I would never wear but would have no other reason to make, if not for my dolls.

Doll clothes can be made inexpensively but more importantly for me is the time from project start to finish is much faster than sewing for myself.
